Audio help PS3+ pioneer vsx-80TXV - Blu-ray Forum

Hi my brother in law has been using optical this whole time and has probably never heard any HD Codecs.

He said that his settings wont let him play the Linear PCM through PS3.

is that true? He and I arent too Receiver Savy and he said that he cannot play HD Codecs.

I told him to switch to HDMI to his receiver from the PS3 so he can get HD codecs and he set his ps3 audio to automatic and its only giving him Linear PCM 2.0 and he says that he gets no AUDIO after doing this.

what is he doing wrong?

please help, he thinks he needs a new receiver to get HD codecs, but i am not sure and dont want to give false info.

according to this amazon review he cannot use HDMI for audio but video only

He also has a Sony BDP-S350 blu-ray player. I remember reading u can get HD Codecs via the Analogs, not sure what inputs this blu-ray player has. He lives in LA and i live in San Diego, so cant check it out myself.

yeah, he needs the Pioneer 81 or higher.

That's passthrough only for hdmi, so no HD codecs via the PS3.

ahh and the sony 350 only has one set of analog for audio.

so i guess he does have to get a new receiver?

yeah, eventually.

Or he can just connect the optical cable and enjoy.
