Hi, I'm a newbie in the Home Theater and I am seeking some advice on what to purchase for HT for under $800. I have been looking and have some options and was wondering what some of you would recommend.
A)Onkyo Home Theater Audio System with HDMI HTS5100B - $699 B)Yamaha 5.1 Channel Receiver(HTR6130B) with Klipsch Quintet III and Synegy Sub 10 Powered Subwoofer - for $699 C)Sony Bravia 5.1 (HTSF2300) system for $599 D) Denon AVR 589 with BOston Acoustics ba-mcsu 90-b -$699 Guys, I have a sony bdp s550 and sony 46xbr4 tv. I would like to know how to get DTS-HD and all the good audio outputs. Thanks JOhnny |

If you are looking for best options:

You are better-off going with separates as recommended above. If you must have a HTiB, the go with the Onkyo HT-S6100. You'll get an AVR similar to the Onkyo 606 described in the earlier post, but the Onkyo speakers won't be near as good as the Polks listed in the same post.

Or maybe the receiver can be upgraded. I know the Quintet III's sound fantastic, I am using them for my surrounds along with 2 Sub-12's |

Thanks for your feedback guys.
Hamp, option B is a package here at BB in Toronto, Canada. It comes with the Yamaha and Klipsch system and no upgrades. IT is on sale at present for $699, down about $300 for xmas. I checked some of the Canadian sites (Newegg.ca) and they don't carry the Onkyo 606 and if I get it from the US site, then I have to pay customs and some other taxes. The Onkyo 7100B package with the 606 receiver is $968. Johnny |

I told him I really love the deal you guys have, but to make a real deal "What if you upgrade ... . . . ... ..", "because I like.. ... . . . ." Next thing I know he said hold on and spoke with a manager, I was laughin on the inside and thinking this guy is gonna lose his job for asking that crazy question. I swear the Manager came back with a better deal then what I was talking about with a have to get now, deal will not be here tomorrow. So I bought it, Kinda felt like I was set-up...... lol |

Separates are generally the best way to go, but I don't see anything wrong with the better HTIB's out there either if the price is right. I would say the Sony setup for $600 is a good option if the Onkyo 6100 isn't available at a reasonable price. The Onkyo 7100 is the same except it features an iPod connection and a couple of speaker stands....that's it, so its not really worth the extra money. Being that you are in Canada I understand that you may be limited in your selection versus what we can get here in the US. After checking the BestBuy Canada site I've pulled up a few recommendations for receivers. I don't know your exact budget so I'm going off the roughly $700 cost of your earlier options. So here we go: THIS, THIS, THIS, and THIS are all options that will provide you sound over HDMI and the prices range from $300 to just under $400. The Sony's are 6.1 and 7.1 capable respectively and the others are 5.1 capable. For speakers I would say get two sets of THESE and THIS. This will get you out the door for $700-$800. You can add a sub later to complete a 5.1 setup. This is pricier than the Sony HTIB, but it will sound much better and you will get a better quality receiver that last you for years.
