So I have been this problem for a little bit. When I turn on my TV and Recevier, the Tv just says "no signal". I have to turn both the TV and the Receiver on and off until I get a picture. Sometimes it takes 10-15mins. I changed all my cables and have the same problems. I reset all the settings on the receiver. If I connet my cable box and or PS3 straight to the TV it will work... so it has to be the box.
I need help please. Eric Receiver- Onkyo TX-SR606 Blu-ray - Playstation 3 Speakers- Monitor 60 x2, CS20, RM6750 set Cable Box- Motorola Moxi box from charter |

The receiver works just fine if I leave the xbox or the blu unit on for 5-10 minutes (ie, turn them on, go make a coffee or check email or something), then switch the Onkyo to Cable and back to what I want.. It's as if it needs the unit to warm up or something. They're all HDMI connected, and worked perfectly for the 11 months I've owned it (-2 weeks), and continues to look and sound great, once it gets going. Anyone know what this could be and if it's fixable? Thanks, Piers |

Have any of you found a fix for this problem? I'm experience it as well but only with my PS3. It was working fine for about a year but then it started having troubles finding a signal to my PS3. I have to let the Receiver warm up or keep turning it on and off and bunch of times before it picks up the signal. It works fine with my PVR, HDDVD Player, and my X360. I connected the PS3 directly to my TV thinking it may be the PS3 but everything worked fine. I even switched HDMI cable and ports but nothing works. The problem keeps getting worse and worse and I'm worried it's going to end up not getting a signal at all

Luckily, I was still within my 2 year factory warranty.. I took it back to Visions and they sent it away.. Got it back a month later, and it didn't work still.. Took it to another Visions, they sent it away and less than two weeks later it was back and working fine.. apparently it's quite common

Yeah, the TX-SR606 is picky about equipment. I have one myself, and it has a similar problems. I've read about this problem happening to other people too.
Somehow, it worked perfectly with a Westinghouse LVM-37w3se, as well with a Samsung LN52B750, and a PS3. However, I had the one in a blue moon problem with a Panasonic TC-P54S1. And now with my Panasonic TC-P58V10 is slightly worse. And it was bad too using a Asus Xonar HDAV1.3 Deluxe. So yeah, it really depends on the equipment, but it always seems to be when using HDMI. I know it was not the TVs/hdmi-soundcard because I noticed this back when I was hunting to upgrade my TV, so at times I had a chance to mix and match this equipment back and forth. My problem however is somewhat different. Is not like the signal won't start, but If the equipment has some sort of shut-down or stand-by feature, is rather difficult to get it back to respond. That's why I never had a serious problem with the S1, because it doesn't have a shut-off feature, other than the stand-by from the PC is was connected to. However, the V10 has a shut-off feature after 12 minutes, as well as the PC. So yeah, is hard to get the V10 back working. The Xonar was the same thing, because the PC has the stand-by. However, this never happened with the Westinghouse, Samsung, or the PS3. Even when using the same equipment. So yeah, there is no other link to all this other than the Onkyo receiver. Specially when you do a google search, and multiple people have this problem with TX-SR606 in specific. Last edited by Odin75; 08-31-2010 at 08:16 PM. |

It's not your connected epuipment. It's the receiver. Specifically the HDMI board on the inside. For one reason or another the board does not recognize your equipment. It's a common problem with Onkyo receivers and the right thing to do is send it to an authorized service center so they can swap out the board for a new one. I had a similar problem with my HT-R667 where it wouldn't recognize connected items because the HDMI board was bad and when I took it to the service center there were, no joke, 50+ other Onkyo receivers in the shop with the same problem. Trust me, get it to the service center.

I am having a video issue as well...
I have a very simple set up. I have a Panasonic Viera 42" HDTV. Receiver is Onkyo TX-NR906. I have my XBOX 360, PS3, and Comcast cable box connected via HDMI. My Wii is connected via component cable. All video is being outputted via HDMI. My XBOX 360 works perfectly and I haven't had any issues... Yet. My PS3 works just fine in the home menu and some games. However, when it loads certain games it goes to a crazy psychedelic seizure fest onscreen. My Comcast cable box only outputs the same crazy video feed. And the Wii... I can't even tell if the video is being outputted at all... |

Happns all the time with me on my 605 and the av inputs in the front don't work at all. Sucks cuz thats what i used for my karaoke mic. Thinking of buying something new just don't know where to start. Thinking of the Pioneer VSX-1121, just not sure I need all the internet connectivity and such. I would not mind a power increase though.

Well I finally decided to give up on my 606. I've been having problems with it when going to the Blu-Ray or PS3 for the past year, but since I upgraded to a PS3slim it's gotten even worse (now takes at least 3 minutes to get a signal).
I started looking at Pioneers last night and I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This morning I noticed that Amazon's warehouse deals was selling "like new" VSX-1020-K for only $190. I can't wait to get it and start playing around with it, I don't care much about being an upgrade over the 606 as long as it doesn't have constant handshaking issues. |

I tried setting up our new Roku XD2 movie-streamer yesterday with our home theater setup. The Onkyo TX SR606's HDMI ports would not 'see'/recognize the Roku.
I know the Roku is working, as I hooked it up directly to the Pioneer TV and it worked fine. Problem is, hooked up this way, I have to use the speaker on the TV for sound, rather than the speakers hooked up thru the Onkyo... Not acceptable. This issue with this Onkyo is all over the web. Of course, I'm out of warranty, as this is the first time I've hooked anything up new to the A/V setup since the first day in June of 2008. Onkyo should step up and take care of this very common issue at no charge to us. |

I had the same problem but I blamed it to the bluray player. Recently, I bought another player and had the same problem; that's when I found this forum. So, today I bought a Yamaha Receiver for 149 at Fry's, and it's a pretty decent replacement!

My 606 has been having problems since last summer. I finally bought it in for service a few weeks ago, since I only have until the end of Jan for my warranty. Well, I brought it home, plugged it in, and it still takes 10+ minutes to recognize an HDMI source. If I leave it on constantly, then it has no problems. It's just on cold start up that it has issues. I'm finished with Onkyo products. Time to swap it out for a Denon or Pioneer.

i wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the Onkyo (or any other brand) because of an experience with one model. whether you choose to stay with Onkyo or not i recommend that you do your homework (research) on the brand/model that your interested in, make sure it meets all or the majority of your current needs and some potential future needs (if possible) and check out some pro & lots of consumer reviews as all wil be important in finding out if that model/brand is potentially troubled. best of luck to you with whatever brand you go with. |

My 606 has started the no signal the past month when switching to the ps3...... I switched around the hdmi inputs, so its working okay for now.... Since my 606 will be 3 yrs old, this spring, i might try the self fix, when it totally goes... Did the self fix on a 32" vizio plasma, and works like new after swapping out new capacitors.....
I have no hate for Onkyo, its just the norm of electronics nowadays...... However, when the 606 video does go, i would be interested in upgrading to a pre-out reciever, and possibly one with usb, and that plays Flac's..... |

I really thought this problem was me. it first started out when I hook up my macbook pro up to watch movies. It would take forever for picture would show up. I tried many times of turning on and off equipment.
I recently upgraded to DirecTV and now I'm having the problems there. It usually takes 5-10 mins of playing with it to get to work. I discovered if I set the res to 480p on the dvr, I get picture instantly. Its so freakin annoying. I found a youtube video on how to replace capacitors on the circuit board, might try that. Cant really afford a new receiver at the moment. I was thinking that if this is such a huge problem with the product line, Onkyo should fix it. Maybe sue them to get it fixed. I dont know I'm no lawyer lol. I'm kind of turned away from buying Onkyo in the future. Or at least get the extended warranty on my next one. Just my thoughts..Thanks for all the info. Lets start a support group for the others out there who are suffering LOL |
