So frustrated. I accidentally scratched my new Panny plasma with an errant vacuum cleaner plug. Its just a small scratch that can't be seen at normal viewing distance, but my fingernail does get caught on it. Just so mad at myself.
I plan on using a SMALL dab of Monster cleaner on it, just to get any dirt out (when the set is cold, obviously). What's the consensus here? I assume not to fix it, but I have read online some people talking about using a car clear-coat type fix on it and that working surprisingly well. Again, its very small and not noticeable at normal viewing distance (need to look for it up close as well), but just curious if anyone has tried this or any other method of scratch repair. Thanks. |

HI,
I think that if it's at all possible to ignore it,.. there's no chance I would try to "fix" it especially using some product designed for something else. Get back to viewing distance and if you can watch a movie without being distracted by it then forget about it. -Brian |

![]() OP - I understand your pain. When my new Panasonic 50" arrive in January, it was pristine! A week later, I notice hairline scratches on the coating of the glass. Not in the glass itself. They were so small, the only way to see them is from the side and about an inch from the set. Not sure how I noticed before but I did. Suffice to say I was kinda pissed. It was one of my cat's using it as a climbing post. Lol. I quickly remided the situation by cutting out the box it came in and making a "cover" for the tv. So, I have a cardboard cover with padding on the inside (from the packing materials) that I hang on the tv anytime it's not in use. Sounds crazy.. But you should see the cover. Lots of scratches. The kitties know not to climb on it now, but I still want it covered just in case. Ignore it and continue on with life. Anything you do to try and "fix it" (which is not possible), will result in more damage. |

man, cats thinking they have to own everything in the house.
A friend of mine recently bought a pretty nice Samsung LCD for his living room. I coincidentally happened to be there on the first day they were using it. Their cat (not realizing its only a couple of inches thick) jumped up to try and sit on top of it------didn't work out so well and it ended up being one of those surreal cartoon moments where the cat sort of hung on to nothing for a second---and then somehow managed to jump away without falling and hurting himself. I thought for sure he scratched the tv, but close inspection revealed no sign of what had just happened. |

Thanks for the responses. I will probably just leave it, simply out of fear that trying to fix it would probably make it worse. As I said, where we sit, you can't even see it. It doesn't mar the picture at all from what I've seen, so it should be fine.
As for cleaning it with the Monster clean, does anyone have any thoughts on that? Of course, I'd only use a SMALL amount and while the set is cold. Or should I just try to use that static-free cloth they send with the TV? |

It’s like the first scratch on your new car – you’re upset and it’s all you can see when you look at it. Chances are there will be more in the future. I'd leave it alone.
As for cleaning - Thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/plasma-tvs...ng-plasma.html |

Yup, I used the static free micro fiber clothes from my LCD purchases and the like. I don't use liquids. I tried that once and it streaked the hell out of it and the small area I did, turned purple. Like an oil slick. Never again. After some drying time, it went away and everything is like new. So I only "dry" clean the screen. If it needs a little moisture here or there, I dab a corner of the cloth on my tongue and wipe then dry. You all may think that's crazy, but it's never left a mess like the spray cleaners do. Quote:

Can't say I agree with the "spit-shine" notion.
I mix up a formula I found online that's composed of water, isopropyl alcohol, and a drop of dishwashing soap. I've got the percentages of ingredients around here somewhere. Anyway the result is just like the lens cleaning formula you would buy at LensCrafters but at a lower cost. I use that for LCD screen on various devices and lenses and anything like that,... always with a lens cleaning cloth. Making sure screens are cold if you clean them seems to be the key to not having streaks or smears. Anyways,... I have been a projector fella for a long time so I can't fully relate to this type of screen damage. But I think damage to TVs comes in 2 types. The stuff you can ignore and the stuff you can't. Seems you can ignore this one and that's exactly what I would do. If you find you can't then of course sell it or move the set to another room and get something "better" for everyday use. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 02-22-2010 at 03:06 PM. |
