Default HDMI to HDMi Video Scaling

What is the cheapest receiver that does the HDMI to HDMI Video Scaling?? I've been looking around on this, I've found a couple the Pio SC 09, & the Onkyo Integra 9.9. They are both extremely expensive. I was wonder if anyone knew of any other receivers taht may be able to do this??

In my search for this Video scaling, all of the receivers that are $500-$850 only do it thru the analog signals. That means I have to use the components. I would like to use the HDMI.

This seems like a Hi end AV receiver feature. I'd like to stay between $750-$1,099

Curious, why do you need this functionality?

I agree with Mr Roy, I want my HD sources to come through with as little interference as possible. whether its 720p or 1080i, I usually don't have a problem watching those resolutions, so I would prefer to keep them as untouched as possible.

I would like for my 720p or my 1080i to upscale to 1080p by going to HDMI thru HDMI. HDMI has less wires. I think I get a better audio & sound quality thru HDMI.

What source is only 720p? Your TV probably will upconvert the image to 1080p if that is the default resolution for your TV.

As for 1080i, your TV might (probably) de-interlace the signal converting to 1080p.

OK, your receiver has 4 HDMI inputs and 1 output, you can have your cable/sat, PS3, Xbox360, and BDP all hooked up to your receiver via HDMI and then still just have the 1 HDMI out to your TV. Using your receivers remote can just switch between inputs, because the receiver will act as the HDMI switcher too. You don't need to have components cables hooked up. Then set the resolution of the components all set to their highest resolution. 1080p for the Xbox, PS3 and BDP, then on the cable/sat have it to 720p/1080i and you are set, I don't see why it matters to have the HD cable/sat upscaled, IMO.

Am I still missing something you are looking for??

Using the Pio SC 05 for example. It has 4 HDMI inputs & 1 output. If you hook your Cable/Sat up to the Receiver thru HDMI inputs it will not upscale a 720p signal into a 1080p signal. It will just send out an 720p signal via the HDMI.

If I hook it up thru the component it upscales that 720p signal into a 1080p signal.

With the Onkyo Integra 9.9 it takes that 720p signal thru the HDMI & upscales it to a 1080p signal.... U can definately tell the difference in the signal/picture quality. It uses a HQV Video processor, with some Silcon technoloy. It upscales HMDI to HDMI Video processing. With that receiver everything you watch is in 1080p. No matter if its Cable/Sat, Blu ray/ DVD.

I was wondering if there is another AV receiver that will do the same thing at a cheaper price point??? The PIO SC 09 does it also but it retails at $7,000. You could probably buy one for $4,500 on the internet. I don't want to spend that kind of money. The Integra 9.9 is around $1,800. Is that the least expensive Av Receiver that does this??

Your original thread.

Again, no matter what you do, everything you watch will not look like Blu-ray unless it is Blu-ray. 1080p does not equal Blu-ray. I still don't understand your want of everything being upscaled.

When you say "Same as" do you mean identical?? What are the differences between the SC885 & the 9.8?? If there are any....

1080p isnt Blu ray??? huh?? Is BLU RAY higher than 1080p??? I've never heard that.

Here's the thing, say I get the 885 and it upscales my 480i picutre to a 1080i picture. Then I get a better picture period. It may not be 1080p but it took my standard def picture & made it a HD pic!!!

Integra is Onkyo's high end line. (Kind of like comparing a Pioneer Elite to a Pioneer Signature Elite.)
PR-SC885 to DTC 9.8
DTC-9.8 & PR-SC885 Very good run down of each and shows good comparative pictures.

There are many AVR's that claim to upscale to 1080p. In real world side by side comparisons its just not the same as a pure bluray signal.

If you are looking for a receiver that implements the HQV Video processor look at the Onkyo 876 It is in the price range you suggested, but you may be somewhat disappionted in the end result.

To support SlmShdy1, 1080p doesn't necessarily = Blu-Ray. In other words, just because it is 1080p, doesn't mean it is blu-ray.

The receivers "up-convert" any analog signal to 1080p, just like an up-converting DVD player does. If you put a 480 line signal into a receiver, the signal is still only 480 lines. The receiver will "fudge" the rest of the lines and the output will give you 1080 lines. Granted, it is a highly educated "fudge." Some receivers do it better than others.

If you are expecting a upconverted signal to look as good as a blu-ray movie, you are going to be extremely disappointed.

Blu-Ray is native 1080p, the sources are mastered at 1920X1080. 480 sources can be up-converted to 1080p to make them look better but you will never get the same quality of video from an upscale 480 source. Even if the transfer was mastered from a 1920X1080 source, once its down converted to 480 that extra information is gone and can't be added back.

I see your logic in wanting to make all your sources look there best but a receiver with cheap up-conversion is just that, CHEAP. If you do get a receiver with upconversion don't exspect the image to look much better. Save your money, if you really want your sources to look there best get a DVDO Edge.

Now I needs some help.. I checked out this DVDO EDGE. It seems like want I need for my system. So I called my local distributor. He tells me the DVDO EDGE is great for exactly what I want. He then goes on to tell me there is a new product comming out that is even better from EMOTIVA.

http://emotiva.com/umc1.shtm

This is suppose to process audio & video. I don't know why I need to process the audio too?? So I'm mixed up. I think EMOTIVA UMC-1 will take any audio source & upscale it to 7.1

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THIS THING & TELL ME WHATS IT ALL ABOUT.

Exactly. It's just like a little exercise we did in my philosophy class. Blu-ray is 1080p. "If Blu-ray is 1080p, then anything that's 1080p must be Blu-ray." It doesn't work like that. Just because it's 1080p doesn't mean it's going to be or look anything like Blu-ray.

My gut tells me that what you are looking for can't happen. It sounds like you want a blu-ray quality picture from a non-1080 line source. This just isn't possible.
With that being said, it might be worth investing into a good receiver to upconvert analog inputs to 1080p and possibly a television that will convert a 720p signal over HDMI to it's 1080p native resolution very effectively.
Curious, what kind of TV do you have now?

I currently have a PIO KURO 5020. I wouldnt say I have to have a 1080p picture on everything. I undestand that its not possible on 480i. I would like the VIDEO PROCESSOR to take my 480i signal and convert it to a HD like picture. Say 480i to 720p. That would be GREAT!!!

Will the PIO SC 05 do that???

Nothing changed from what we told you in the other thread, if you don't care about using your expensive Monster HDMI cables the SC05 will do what you want using component/analog to HDMI. If you insist on using the Monster HDMI cables you're going to have to pay extra for HDMI to HDMI scaling.
