Default My 2,000th post; what has changed in a year's time...

when i first started lurking here in december of '06 there were very few people here. mostly hard core early adopters who had been waiting for blu ray to come out for some time. i joined this site 1 year ago today, and i will probably get to guru status today as well. my first few posts and threads were redundant and i quickly learned the search function (it is your friend). there were outstanding members who seemed to know the answer to every question you could imagine. members whose opinion and knowledge i respect greatly now. members such as:

provenflipper
writesimply
dobyblue
btbuck1

there are others as well. but these names stood out in the begining. also all the mods are pretty coo.

there has been a lot of change here at the site. aaron (who has the same join date as myself) pointed out to me that 1 year ago blu-ray.com had about 2,000 members. now we have over 20,000. there has been a lot of fun on here. the "lets put names to the faces" thread is always amusing. there has always been a good vibe to this site. the people are pretty cool and laid back. there's always been a little of FNGs but its always been in good fun. some people take it a little to seriously and cry about it hence why i started the sensitivity training. there was a time also when the people here got way to serious (remember the whole blu blood thing). but that passed as well and most everyone is back to being cool again. i've gotten to know several of you pretty well on here. some i've hung out with, others are just online friends for myspace or games, but there are a lot of cool people here. soon i will be cancelling the internet on my phone (which is where i do the majority of my posting on here). so i won't be around nearly as much. but this site is pretty friggin awesome in general and great compared to the others i occasionally visit. hell i've even gotten away with working the word "boobies" into my last 20 posts or so and most people have the decency to not get butt hurt and report it.

but there is a darker side to this site

one that not many know of and those who do guard the secret with their very lives. this site is damn expensive . before i was on here i had no idea what lossless audio was, what speakers and subs were good, or what a bogo was. i'm glad i know now because i had no idea what i was missing. but man can it get expensive if you frequent the hot deals forum.

now that WB is on board and retailers are dropping hd dvd like bad habit it is funny to think about how panicked the board was when paramount jumped ship. or when universal announced all those spielburg movies, then had to retract them. then they did it again. and apologized again.

now all you young hooligans on this site with your 40 and 80 gb ps3s. your dualshock controllers, your "free blu ray player with any hdtv purchase", and your "newbie discussion" area have control of the site. there are to many new faces (all strangely named "BLU_______" with a blu ray avatar). you all need to respect your elders and STAY OFF MY LAWN *shaking my old man walking stick at you*

i forgot what i was writing about now. oooooh look. a lucy pinder theme for my ps3. and ooooh. applesauce.

and now i am a guru
