there are two types of surge protectors( not to be confused with UPS's or power conditioners)

One type burns itself up in a surge and then most be replaced. The other type severs the connection. The first type is your cheaper style that once they absorb the surge are dead and you have to buy a new one. THe second type is the more expensive style like a furman etc. that your fine after most surges.
