I dont think overall sales will be higher, but they have already started closing the gap, and that gap will close quickly. More bluray players are being sold than HD DVD players in my store easily about 10-1

It is a fact that Blu-Ray players have begun to outsell hd dvd stand alone players.

Since black friday there have been 200+ players sold in one BB and 11 hd dvd players. I will admit that store is beyond pro blu. Every employee there either owns a PS#/Stand alone player or plans on getting one. There are 2 that started as red and now own blu and lean towards blu

It will overtake hddvd players as a whole VERY soon. I have 2 friends that bought standaloneBlu players over HD DVD in the last 2 weeks and im thinking Im going to buy one myself in the next few months so I can use my ps3 strictly for gameplay and other things.

On another note it is amazing how much BluRay movie shelf space has started to grow as opposed to the fast shrinking hddvd shelf space in most stores.

The 2 best buys I frequent in particular both have about 3 to 4 times the shelf space of hd-dvd now instead of the equal space they had just 6 months ago.. its a beautiful thing =]

Do u have any facts to back up your talk? I seem to remember over 90,000 hd-dvd players being sold not to long ago. I speak the truth how about you?

Mr angry was suckered into buying a HD-DVD player.

Should feel sorry for him or just laugh?

Lightbulb Here is an advice for BDA

Sony should stop being to cocky about their PS3, instead of selling their PS3 system with a loss as their primary BD player, why not they sell a 1080i player for $100, and yes I mean 1080i not 1080p. This goes to all the companies supporting Blu-Ray. I may have a 1080p TV; however, my parents have 3 1080i TVs. So WTF, they do not need a 1080p player, 1080i would do fine.

As for PIP, forget about it, do not need it, and do not care. I have over 100 BD films and I have not even used any of their bonus materials. Bonus materials are too hyped up, they are useless and they increase the production costs. I am happy with my cheaper 300 on Blu-ray, HD DVD’s 300 costs an extra $5, which is not that much, but it adds up over time.

Come on BDA, if HD DVD can do it, then so can you. 1080i players can also be great, no need to be all stuck up.

Klitschko is obviously pro HD-DVD and feels the need to insult us for supporting Blu-ray; just look at all his posts. Why can't we just ban this jack-ass??

Remember all Bluray players play on all TV's regardless of the resolution. If the player is 1080P and the TV is 720 then the player will downscale to that resolution. It is not feasible to make a $100 Bluray player due to costs of the units. Most customers walking into stores now are asking for 1080P TV's not 720P and not 1080I. In a year the players have dropped from $1000 down to $299. Not sure how much further they can drop without stepping on the toes of DVD and cutting into their revenues. Keep in mind the customer should pay a premium on HD quality.

And Blu-ray discs have the durability coating for more robust protection - fewer rebuys due to damage. Big deal if you have kids since software is the bulk of your overall costs. HD DVD stuck with last generation DVD technology so it's a non-starter. Blu-ray is the only next gen format that actually raised the bar over DVD in every area and is well worth the few extra dollars.

I'm with you on the "don't care for extras". PQ first then AQ and anything beyond that I can take or leave. I have yet to put in a bonus disc from any of my Blu collection yet, but glad it's there for those that want it.

Isn't this estimate for the end of 2007 of 461k and 678k for Blu-Ray and HD DVD respectively based on previous trend... But as i see the trend has shifted a little on the Blu-side... So actual figure for the end of 2007 might be a lot closer then the expectation, if all the anecdotes of blu-ray players we are hearing are true.

These numbers are totally out of date. With 466,000 PS3s sold in November, the PS3 number is around 3 mil or above. At the end of year, its highly possible that there will be over 3.5 mil PS3s in the U.S alone. I would also say there will be over 500,000 SA Blu-ray players at the end of the year too.

By CES, no. But I think the 130K lead may be about cut in half by then, and continuing to shrink.

Here's a fact for you, three days ago I went to Best Buy they had bulk stacked over a 100 Sony BDPS300's on the floor for the holidays priced at $299. Next to that stack was another bulk stack of Toshiba AX-30. I went back in yesterday and they were sold out of all BDPS300 and the associate told me they should get more in over the weekend. BTW the stack of Toshiba AX-30 had hardly moved. Here's another fact, I get paid to go into these stores and check updates on Bluray and HDDVD and for the holidays Bluray has been outselling HDDVD due to price drops and promo's. If you don't believe the facts, just take your happy ass into Best Buy or any other retailer and check for yourself.

Happy Holidays
