So bringing up the recycled discs has no bearing on the UOT releases, which is why I don't mention it.
Like you, and like everyone else in this thread, I'm speculating as to why Disney would wait on releasing the UOT's.
So again: We....shall.....see!
Distribution is just distribution. Fox don't own the films, so unless Fox is willing to just never make anything from the franchise again they're going to work with Disney to make a profit. There's no real debate about it, and media types like Devin Farci embarrassed themselves acting like this was even a question.

I agree - they may not want to invest the money and time into the restoration (though it looks like it's already been done). And yes, everything at this point is speculation - except for the idea that Fox's distribution rights will somehow inhibit that process, which is just plain nonsense.

I really hope that if Disney does indeed release the original versions that they use the original poster art for the covers.

LoL......they have already been prepped. Why do you keep circling this? They are coming out its pretty much a forgone conclusion. All one has to do is go back a ways and can tell that no way in hell do you want to originals to come out! It's the same song and dance over and over.....

This is by all means not certain!
We may have seen that photo with 4K remaster on star wars at the reliance site, but we don't know what it is (if it's the OT, or Special editions or whatever else)

Yeah, I think I referred to Faraci's article as "blindingly stupid"...the guy was confusing a distribution arrangement with actual ownership. That kind of misinformation spreads like a virus, and we've had to correct it again and again and again...

Why do have the feeling that at the Anaheim convention is where they will announce the release date of the UOT on blu and the 3d versions of the PT?

They'd be foolish not to.

Huh? I know all of this. I keep saying "Fox(distribution)".
It's not up to Fox. The call to release is made by Disney, then they get on the Fox and talk to Fox about distribution. Again, I know there's no real debate, as I've been doing what everyone else is doing: Speculating.

This coming from the *ahem* Star Wars fan that didn't know about the Falcon's dish being knocked off in Jedi all these years. Please.
If everything is prepped and ready to go, then why wouldn't Iger just say that? Why wouldn't he say, in his biggest interview since the VII trailer dropped? "Yep they are prepped and ready to go, an announcement is forthcoming"? Nope, he said everything BUT that.
Look, I want these as much as anyone else...and like everyone else I'm speculating on what I think will happen.

The same reason Iger hasn't divulged the plot of Episode VII, Rick. Everything is going to be timed to the maximum benefit of Episode VII. That announcement of a theatrical re-release of the OT films (probably in IMAX) will cause a firestorm of free advertising on social media and internet film sites. Why spoil that now? Just kinda smile and wink about it...fire when you see the green.

Indeed. This is one of the biggest investments the company has made in a film property. There are entire marketing teams devoted just to these movies. There's no way that Iger would come out and break meticulous PR schedules for an interview.

Hey I hope you're right, and that's exactly what happens.
Honestly they could make that announcement, at any time, between now and VII's release and the firestorm would still be there, methinks.
So assuming Disney plans on releasing the UOTs in 2015, the next obvious announcement date(assuming, as you said, there would be a big announcement) would be May the 4th. If nothing happens then, we move to the next logical date which would be July for SDCC. Now we are about 5 months out of VII's release. IF, and I'm just saying IF, nothing is announced at SDCC what then? Or should I say when?
I've just been positing the idea from Disney's point of view, and could see them being reluctant to release anything before VII's theatrical run.
As I've been saying all along: We Shall See.

Not for me. I don't have the money to buy a $1000 top rate printer just to make some DVD/BD covers. I have to live with what I got for $200 and the printing quality is garbage on something like that. I'm a teacher, not a doctor.

I really see no better time to re-release the original films than this year. After this year, our attention is supposed to be directed on the future of Star Wars, not the past. To release any of the first six films after this year would be poorly timed, unless we're talking about after Episode IX. And I don't think anyone wants to wait that long.

What? That I'm very happy with my set? I am.
Does that mean I don't want the UOTs on BD? Of course not. Am I going to ***** and moan about it for years on end? Hell no.
But that's just me...obviously.

Agreed. The next time that would make sense would be 2019 for its 40th anniversary, but I really hope they don't make us wait another four years for it.

Good thing Warner* or Universal** aren't in charge of this, or we'd have new releases every year.

2015: Eps 1-6 box
2016: Eps 1-7 box
2017: Eps 1-7 + 1st spinoff movie box

etc etc etc...

* see Harry Potter series...
** see Fast and Furious series...

Star Wars was released in 1977. You're 2 years off, I'm sorry to say.

Speaking of Warner (and I might have brought this up before), you think they have permanent rights to the Clone Wars Micro-series (seeing as it was a Cartoon Network co-production and it would be ironic if Disney had it).

I don't think the 3D blu-rays of the PT will happen now. Almost the first thing Disney did when they completed the purchase was can the theatrical releases of AOTC and ROTS in 3D. In their choices towards new merchandise and programming, Disney are clearly pushing the emphasis towards the classic era and moving the prequels to one side.
