I recently had a similar experience. Granted, the 'Search This Thread' dropdown shows 64 mentions of 'despecialized', but this is a 2,500 page thread. It's honestly hard to express the profound sense of relief that I feel that the real Star Wars can't be wiped out by ego myopia and greed.

What's really unexpected though, is that the despecialized editions led me to fan edits of the Prequel trilogy, and while no edit cure those fatally flawed movies, they can minimize some of the biggest flaws, and make them far more watchable. I suggest you search for edits by Seciors, HAL9000, Magnoliafan, and l8wrtr. Until last week, I had never watched Episode III. Fanedits finally made it possible.

No amount of editing can fix Clones or Sith. There is only one thing to do at this point....reboot!

Totally agreed. But when I watched Sith, there was no "NOOOOOOO!!!" to suffer through. And when I watched Phantom Menace, for the first time since the 90s, all the corn-pone Jar Jar antics were gone, and worst of Jake Lloyd's acting.

I'm not here to bash the prequels or even the special editions. However, it amuses me that anyone who replies anything remotely negative about my Star Wars posts and people who give thanks to these posts all own the compete saga. I'm not exactly sure why I check these collections because I already know what I'm going to find.

This seems like a new & interesting topic for this thread.

Dear God Noooooo! Unlike you, I really love all six Star Wars movies, albeit to varying degees, but I hope they never "reboot" any Star Wars films, at least in my lifetime.

I actually find certain parts of the prequel trilogy to be even more exciting than the originals, and no, I'm not some young punk kid, I'm 44 years old and grew up with the originals.

Admittedly, there are some glaring alterations to the OUT that bug me, such as the disappearing rocks, Obi Wan's Richard Simmons kick-in-the-nuts Krayt Dragon sound, and Vader's "No..., Nooooooo!" that I could've done without, but a few seconds of alterations in a 12 hour movie just doesn't bother me near as much as it has apparently bothered you.

If they release an unaltered version, you can be damned sure that I'll be first in line to buy it, but overall, I'm just not quite as bothered by the changes as you, and I do still love the prequels, all of them.

Agreed! And, well said. The real abomination are those kind of fans.

We're the same age. I saw Star Wars when I was 7. The prequels proved to me that Lucas, visionary that he is, can't direct actors worth a damn, is totally tone-deaf to performance, and has an 8 year old's sense of humor. Let him produce, let him do story treatments, but don't let him direct or have final draft of a script.

Like I said, the digital age has put the fans in the editor's chair, and what they came up with is better than what Lucas sent to theaters in the prequels.

Just finished watching the Unspecialised Editions of the OT over the weekend, and they really were a breath of fresh air. Not so bothered about the Special Editions as many are (although the shuttle sequence in Empire is horrible) but when going back to how they were, you notice just how faster-moving the first two are when they haven't had the digital Willy of Lucas stuck up them. Star Wars moves like a rocket, but adding more Dewbacks, extra shots of the Falcon taking off and a redundant Jabba The Hutt scene just collectively pours concrete in its boots.

There is no doubt that original versions of them are going to be released now that Disney is pulling the strings, and probably won't surprise anyone that they will be very popular, especially if they spring for 4K scans, which Lucas certainly didn't.

How do you know that it was really an improvement, if you've never seen the original version?

Tighter, more focused editing could probably take Sith from 'pretty good' to 'solidly good' if not 'very good'.

Clones would definitely be a challenge though.

"Sith" wasn't bad!!

It was alot better than the first two prequels combined...plus it's the first (SW) film that got a PG-13 rating...body parts were flying off everywhere in that film.

I actually like Sith better than Return of the Jedi. The music might be the best out of the entire series.

Sith suffered from the same exact problems that clones did. Both are unfixable as you would have to cut out entire scenes.

Yeah, Sith is a good flick. I think Empire is the only great one, but I would put Sith, Hope and Jedi in the same "good" category.

But this is just crazy talk.

Are Sith and Jedi in same rough ballpark? Absolutely.

But neither one can lay a glove - he said, mixing his sports metaphors - on Star Wars.

First flick is best of those three, my point is they're all "good not great." They're on that level, while Empire is a great freaking movie. Just my opinion. I've never thought the original was great. Even when I was a kid it was Empire and the first half of Jedi that I watched over and over.
