They're definitely doing a big digital version promotional release later this year. That doesn't mean they're the original cuts though, or that the original cuts would be digital only. That would make absolutely zero sense since most fans who crave those cuts are older and more in the physical media target market.

Just relax and wait for announcements.

I think the prequels and the revisionist OT destroyed what made SW special. As the SW universe stands now, it's a mediocre space opera with lots of cringe worthy moments sprinkled throughout. The prequels in particular are so flat and devoid of any of the fun that made the originals so great. The original three films are loaded with quotable lines and likable characters, the prequels have none of this. It's paint-by-the-numbers exposition. It's literally seven hours of exposition: This is how Vader came to be; this is how the Empire came to be.

Boring.
What a lovely non sequitur recitation of The Litany.

*golf clap*

You and I already went over this several years ago: George is evil for making films and videos for profit, (just like every other filmmaker does), you have the moral authority to judge him as evil because you heal the sick for free, you get to personally insult anyone who doesn't agree, and anyone who expresses a dissenting opinion is attacking you. We already played your game, and I quit because the rules were lame. Don't start it again. Years may have passed, but your attempt at engagement is still no less unwelcome.

I don't recall asking you to Bear your Testimony, and sane adults generally don't self-gratify in public. What part of my quoted comment could have encouraged you to recite the Articles of Faith yet again?

No, he is "evil" for foisting his revisionist versions on an unwilling public at the expense of the Academy Award-winning original cuts of the OT. Instead of making the PT films better in order to match up with the OT, he decided to retroactively make the OT films objectively worse in order to tie them to the PT.

And don't even think about trotting out that tired "but they're out on VHS/LD" crap that the PT/SE brigade parrots, as no right-thinking film fan would accept such low-quality releases of a historically-important trilogy of films in this day and age. Then again, considering your posting history I'm not sure that appellation would ever apply to you...

Right on. I agree with just about everything you said here, except I wouldn't go so far as to say George is evil, but rather someone who's very misguided and very out of touch with culture and reality due to the fact that he essentially became a billionaire hermit for many years and surrounded himself with sycophants who never questioned him. Then again, that pretty much is all irrelevant now.

And especially right on about the people who always play the "they're on VHS and LD" card in regards to the originals. Whenever I read comments like that I think "Are you f@&king kidding me? That's the best you can do, by telling us we can watch them on woefully outdated formats that are practically eyesores in this day and age?"

Of course it's easy for them to say stupid shit like that considering they got the versions that they want (or so they say) and the originals probably don't mean a damn thing to them anyway.

Of course they don't!

George Lucas has given me far more than he's ever taken away, and for that I'll always be thankful!

...Wasn't talking to you, but I guess I have a few minutes to indulge these hysterical antics.

So, you get to trot out that old nonsense about having new versions "forced" on you? That statement is nonsense, (though it's nice to know that you also insist on playing by one-sided rules). He released new edits, those who bought them, bought them voluntarily, your "unwilling" public had nothing forced on them. Putting a product on the market that you and some other people don't want, is neither evil nor coercive, you've gone beyond hyperbole there. Learn to speak for yourself, you are not "The Public", millions of people were perfectly content to buy those versions.

Dude, they won technical awards. The prequels were also nominated for technical awards. Just stop with the hyperbole, already.

The use of the word 'objectively' here turns this statement of opinion into a falsehood.

I've never once "trotted out" that argument, but thanks for presuming to tell me what I'm allowed to say. Fact is, I don't believe they are required to release any version of any film on any format. They get to sell what they want to, and you get to choose whether to buy it or not. Business is conducted at will, to do otherwise would be evil. Even a petulant child knows that nobody has to give you everything you want. Seems to me you have a genuine problem with believing that it's somehow your place to control everyone else and make them do and think what you want them to.

Just knew the personal insult was coming sooner or later. What do you think it says about the quality of your argument, when in the end it all proves to be nothing but an excuse to dish a personal insult at someone with a different opinion?

He's given us so much even gone out of his way and fixed the movies for blu release.

And those those complaining about this shot..

Does anyone see the opening on the right side of R2...could that possibly be where he entered that hiding spot instead of "Gee how did R2 get in there"...now you know.

I'd pay $20 for the vintage documentaries disc (if anyone wants to offer feel free to PM me, ), but I have no interest in the revisionist feature presentations.

I don't have them either, but I am not making any moral stance or anything like that. I have been hoping to see this set turn up dirt cheap on Black Friday the last couple of years, but no dice. If they ever released them as solo releases, I would buy Episode III and Empire in a heartbeat -- I genuinely like III, and Empire's SE changes don't bother me.

No!

The last round of "improvements" was too much for me. If the price of the big set drops substantially, or if I could find them used for cheap, I'd consider picking them up for the bonus features, but I would honestly rather watch the non-anamorphic DVDs of the UOT. I wouldnt mind the "Special Editions" so much if I weren't being force-fed them (no pun intended).

I do too. The two you've named are my son's favourites, but I'm not sure if he's just trying to appease his strident* old man where Empire is concerned.

I wouldn't go quite so far as Camille Paglia though, who is rather...effusive in her praise for Episode III: http://chronicle.com/article/Why-Geo...-Is-the/134942

* Anyone seen Margaret? I'm always extra careful about using this word.

Too bad George is no longer in charge, becuase now we will never see the digital Yoda in V and VI, and a CG Jabba in VI.
Furthermore, we won't get the improved Yoda version in II.

I did buy the Complete Saga on release day but when I got home and before I could open it Anakin's "I hate sand" speech popped into my mind so I returned it.
I have the 3 bonus discs of the non-anamorphic UOT that I watch. I actually watched Empire and Jedi last night.

I kept this for old times sake.
