Morena Baccarin Is Copycat in the DEADPOOL Movie; Reveals First “Set Image”



It appears that filming is now officially underway on the Deadpool movie, and we’ve got a bit of news to mark the occasion. We knew production on the long-developing Marvel Comics adaptation was about to begin very soon, but actress Morena Baccarin revealed the first “set image” on Twitter today of her actor’s chair, complete with a temporary logo and her character’s name.

It’s the latter that’s of most interest here, as we previously only knew that the Homeland and Firefly actress was playing the film’s female lead opposite Ryan Reynolds’ antihero character. Her chair back says her character’s name is “Vanessa”, which would appear to suggest that she’s playing Vanessa Carlysle from the comics, aka Copycat.

In the world of the comics, Copycat was a mutant shape-shifter who met and fell in love with Deadpool while working as a prostitute in Boston. When Deadpool learned that he had cancer, however, he broke up with Copycat, after which she became a mercenary herself.

As with any comics adaptation there will be changes in director Tim Miller’s film, but the female lead being Copycat actually makes quite a bit of sense. We know that the movie’s story finds Reynolds playing an assassin who, after undergoing a procedure to cure his cancer, ends up twisted, scarred, and imbued with superpowers. Whether Baccarin’s character meets Deadpool before or after his transformation is unknown, but if you thought Deadpool was going to be the only mutant here, you were wrong.

The ensemble cast for the 20th Century Fox film also includes Gina Carano as the mutant Angel Dust and T.J. Miller as Deadpool’s “comic relief” buddy Weasel. Check out Baccarin’s “set photo” below, which also reveals the temporary logo that the production is using at the moment, along with an image from Reynolds as well. Deadpool opens in theaters on February 12, 2016.

He's hit or miss character for me. Some writers really nail the character and when they do I love Deadpool. It's the writers that go with the LOLZ TOTES RANDOM humor that irk me.

I don't like characters who break the 4th wall unless it's REALLY necessary and brief.

But what really kills Deadpool for me is not the character himself, but the legions of mindless Deadpool fans who worship him incessantly like he's the greatest character in the history of comic books.

He really has the most insufferable fans in all of the universe, I'd rather not feed them.

Joe Kelly and Remender (Uncanny X-Force in general is amazing) are my favorite Deadpool writers. I wish the movie would be more similar to their writing, but I'm sure it won't be.

The Nolanites yes but I consider myself a big fan and don't think he's god or anything.

I'll second what Kirk Out typed and say that I love your Avy. I find political correctness to be overly sensitive and ridiculous so I'm glad to see someone is keeping that comic cover alive.

Also Dr Jack have you seen the doomsday superman cover which I think is fan made mocking the pulling of the Joker Batgirl alt cover.
