Ah, ok. But there are rare bootlegs.

It wouldn't surprise me as this is what most studios seem to think keeps customers satisfied enough.

Only reason I would want a new prequels release is to get Phantom Menace without the terrible DNR and rescanned. I dislike that movie overall, but I still want it to look better than it does. The changes to AotC and RotS are super minor and the BDs are seriously as good as those movies will EVER look, so no reason for a re-release there.

Overall though if we ever get the original cuts of the the original films I would bet it's in a three movie set (and several years from now).

P.S. Clone Wars already got a complete series set, I doubt they will do another just to include the "lost episodes" release.

One things for sure, even if they don't give us the originals, they at least need to do some type of reissue or remaster for the original movies sometime soon (and I have no idea if those 4K transfers we've all seen snippets of is a true remaster or upconversion that was done with the 3D releases in mind)

But the reason they need to do a reissue is because for one, the current masters used for the films are 11 years old at this point, and they weren't exactly top of the line when they were originally used for DVD either. And second, as we all know, the Complete Saga isn't even accurate anymore.

Wasn't the surprise the teaser for Rogue One?

Or is there still more to come.

The surprise is mentioned in the description for the still-to-come closing panel slotted for 3:30pm-4:30pm PST.

Yep, the current original transfers are just outright cruddy. It's a saddening situation really given how many movies have been remastered and something as huge as Star Wars looks like crap with 11 year-old scans. Mind boggling really when you have small budget B horror movies getting really nice new scans.

As has been mentioned before, we know 4K work has been done on some version of the originals...hopefully they release it for this fall.

I was about to post the exact same thing. Seriously. When you really take a step back and think about it, it's bizarre that the biggest trilogy of all time still isn't readily available in its original form, restored and remastered.

But some people have speculated that they're merely 4K upconversions that were created a few years ago for the planned 3D releases.

I suppose that is always a possibility and if the case, then damn. It's like some kind of omen on the original Star Wars in general. lol

Rogue One was teased. The trailer had a very unstarwarsy feel to me.

Let's see if they drop a final nuke right at the end, or fizzle out.

But that was already mentioned in first post of this page, and it was before the closing panel that has the surprise..

Oh, come on! They look way better than ever before!

Don't get me wrong. I am all for a total restoration, and the ultimate transfer, but these BDs are pretty darn amazing, except for some minor issues.

I am going to watch all 6 as soon as my BD player is up and running again.
Perhaps my opinion will have changed then.

The only one that could clearly look A LOT better is TPM. The DNR is truly saddening in that one. I would love to have a filmic presentation of it.

And what I don't get is why they fixed some of the problems with the transfers but left others the way they were, such as the miscolored lightsabers?

But wait....Didn't George himself approve the transfer for TPM? And if so, then that must mean it's part of his true genius vision. And if THAT'S the case, then shouldn't we be all accepting of it instead of criticizing it?

HeavyHitter is talking about the originals, not the Lucas travesties also known as the Special Editions.

Better than before is not saying a lot though. Yes, there are worse looking transfers out there, but it shouldn't matter. I'm also referring to the originals although TPM needs a makeover, agreed.

I would say the issues are pretty major in sum (frozen grain, artificial looking grain, edge enhancement, weird red-orange skin tones at times, questionable color shifts in general, contrast a bit too boosted) . They have that dated scan look to them and do not look like 35 mm film. They look too digital. When you compare them to a list of movies that have been properly restored from 1970s to early 80s, there is no comparison. Any of the Spielberg movies for starters...

I don't think so, he mentioned "11-year-old scans", whereas the old LD transfers seen on the non-anamorphic DVDs date from 1993 or thereabouts.

I just watched all six films the passed few days for Celebration VII and to me they still look great overall with a few issues here and there. There is certainly room for improvement now, but they don't look bad at all.

Of course the best thing about the saga set is the sound. It really doesn't get much better than hearing Star Wars on Blu-ray.

Some have speculated that the reason he opted for basic 1080p scans was because he was shooting Ep. II-III in that same resolution and he wanted everything to be uniform.
