Well, actually Spielberg helped out quite a bit on Sith from a directorial standpoint. Lucas did him a solid on Jurassic Park when Spielberg stepped out towards the end to go direct his real passion: Schindler's List.

But Jake is so far apart from Hayden that they might as well be two different characters, and yes: I do realise that we change dramatically when growing up, but not being able to actually see that transition happen across the films hurts TPM quite a bit in the grand scheme of things IMO.
Yeah, Anakin should have been the same actor in all three films (like Luke) and less of a time-gap between I and II. You know, 'cause poetry and rhyming and stuff But that's a big reason I think "machete order" is so ingenious-- it puts the focus properly on the actual backstory that doesn't need Ep. I. At this point, I consider The Phantom Menace to be a standalone "kiddie" Star Wars movie. I'm retro-actively dubbing it the first of those "Anthology" movies coming out.

While I'm saying "should've, would've, could've" on the prequels, I think characters like Bail Organa and Owen Lars should have had bigger roles in the story starting in Episode I. I know I would have cared more about what Organa was doing in III if his character had been built up more previously-- his role in AotC was pointless, and I don't think I even realized who he was until Sith.

Yep, it's felt like an 'anthology' sidequel to me for a while now.

Spielberg came up with a couple of short sequence ideas for the fight at the end- If you're implying this one is better because of Spielberg's involvement. Spielberg also gave feedback on the cross-cutting of the three stories at the end of Phantom Menace, so I don't think you can necessarily claim his involvement is make or break.

The end of The Phantom Menace is great though.

Well, the duel is pretty awesome. No, make that totally awesome.

The ground battle and space battles? I dunno, not so much. Even taking Yipee! and the antics of General Binks off the table those sequences are both pretty iffy.

Oh I kind of forgot about the ground battle, yeah that's terrible. The space, palace and jedi stuff is all great though.

Correct. I think Lucas did it like that just so he could one-up the three cross-cut strands in Jedi's third act.

The worst mistake I made, Star Wars wise, was trading in the Limited Edition Star Wars trilogy DVDs I had when I got the Blu-Rays. Thinking about it now, I wish I hadn't. I wish I still had ALL 6 dvds of the saga. But alas, what can I do?

Get the Harmy de-specialized 720p editions of the original trilogy. They look and sound much better than the muddy Laserdisc transfers on the DVD's.

probably bc he didnt feel a need to keep two copies of the same movie, especially with a new, better looking one out? I got rid of most of my DVDs as films were released on BR as well

Normally that's an OK idea, but the 1997 and 2004 DVD releases had already set a pattern of progressive degeneration of the films by Lucas' tinkering.

The handwriting should've been on the wall for owners of previous releases of the unmolested OT that the 2011 BD would fare no better, and that selling them would be an exceedingly bad idea.

I regret throwing away my DVDs too. I had no idea Fox would omit a ton of extras that were included on the DVDs.

It's stylistically designed to be that way.

Nothing to do with Fox, it's all Lucasfilm and they've always been dicks when it comes to carrying over special features. I kept my DVDs as a matter of course.

Aside from generally showing up the dated CGI, I noticed some weird pixelation in parts, like at the beginning of the final duel where a bridge moves over the lava. I also saw a lot of what I believe to be green screen spill over.
TPM and AOTC look pretty flat on BD. TPM has a great new master but is ruined to death with DNR, and AOTC because it is the victim of primitive digital cameras.
