Amazing how in nearly 3000 pages nobody's had these complaints before

So, I can finally see where you were coming from now.
There's a lot more weight to Vader's decision scene when we think of him having been there before in Sith, yep. Of course, Lucas then went and completely screwed the brooding atmosphere of that moment by adding the "no...NOOOOooooOOOOooooOO!" to it. Even without the prequels to add more depth to the scene you can almost see the cogs turning in Vader's mind. Now we're left in no doubt whatsoever. Thanks again, George.

To me that is worst change Lucas ever made to the OT. That, Greedo shooting first/same time, and the horrible CGI Jabba.

I like the revised CG Jabba, even the Greedo issue never bothered me like it did the rest of Star Wars fandom. As I said, even the Hayden force ghost doesn't bother me on a conceptual level. But man, the Blu-ray versions really were a facelift too far for Star Wars and Jedi, there's so much utterly unnecessary stuff added while goofs like the blatant garbage mattes in the space battle at the end of Jedi STILL go untouched. Boy, am I glad those Ewoks blink now though!

Yep, and don't forget the TIE fighters that magically appear on screen when they first engage the rebel fleet in ROTJ.

When I watch The Phantom Menace it takes me about 30-40 minutes because I skip past all of the needless fluff. The same goes for Attack of the Clones.

That doesn't bother me as much, it's simply a goof in the compositing whereas those extant mattes are greatly exposed by transferring at the incorrect gamma. That's one thing that the new restoration should be able to mitigate quite well without any need for overt digital trickery.

I've started doing that with Clones (and I've pretty much always done that with Jedi) but I genuinely love TPM. Can't skip any of it anytime I watch it

Me too, but it's still so detached from the other movies (IMO) that it feels more like a 'Star Wars Story' spin-off to me.

Indeed. Just the characterization of Vader in ROTJ in general gels really well with the PT. Suddenly we see that he's a broken, emotionally conflicted and tortured man, and that makes sense when we've seen him as Anakin and how he became Vader in the first place.

There's various other little things, Yoda's death for example was more emotional having the PT in the back of my mind. It's very interesting with Yoda actually, if you view the OT alone he's this kind of quirky old wizard, but going from the PT to the OT he suddenly becomes a tragic character. When he tells Luke not to underestimate the Emperor, we recall his (and the Jedi order's) own failure in letting this evil grow and then unsuccessfully attempting to remedy it at last minute.

In the past I used to feel like ROTJ was maybe a bit too lighthearted, almost sugar-coated with its sweetness, humor and perfect ending, but now... they earned it, dammit, they earned it.

It's very detached, but ultimately I'm not gonna pass up an excuse to watch a movie I enjoy If it means adding an extra day to the marathon, fine by me.

The single worst change in the OT is the Jabba palace dance sequence in Jedi IMO.

The original song was fine and really the entire original scene was fine.

Less is more. An alternative would have been maybe to just throw in a few scenes here and there of CGI aliens in the background or just tweak Sy Snootles with some subtle CGI. They just went way overboard and now its ridiculous and out of place. At least you can ague the new krayt call, Greedo shooting, the added 'no's are all really quick moments. But the Jabba scene drags on & on.

20 years later the whole things still feels wrong.

At least the horrible "Jedi Rocks" nonsense in Jabba's Palace is the easiest skip in the saga. Just press the "next chapter" button on your remote after Jabba says "Play that one again" and BLAM, they're suddenly interrupted by an explosion, followed by Chewbacca being brought in. Who cares if we don't establish the rancor eating the slave girl? I don't miss it, and I'm certainly never going to sit through "Jedi Rocks", or whatever its called.

What the hell remains?

EDIT: I meant, once you cut the fluff, you don't have much left.

Obi-Wan's investigation, Anakin and Padme on Tattooine, and basically the entirely of Geonosis through to the end.

At least that would be for me. The rest of the movie, I can happily do without. (Not that I hate it, but that one has aged to worst of the PT in many ways.)

Hmm...yeah, I suppose I like Obi-Wan investigating Kimino...maybe the Coruscant chase.

I don't like to skip parts of movies, generally, but AOTC is definitely an exception. I'm good with The Phantom Menace at its full length, although I'd be even better if it were the theatrical version.
