Really only the new Palpatine scene is something I'd keep just as the old one doesn't fit if watching them in episode order.
The best thing they could do that would sell a lot of copies would be a release including the original theatrical cuts, the 1997 special editions, the 2004 DVD cuts and the 2010 Blu-ray cuts as each of these have some different things in them. And throw in all the documentaries they can (everything on the BD set, and include Empire of Dreams please, as that was one of the best docs on the OT) Maybe go all out and release the two live action Ewok movies on Blu-ray, maybe upgrade the Gennedy Tartakovsky Clone Wars series to Blu. Release the complete Droids and Ewoks cartoon shows rather than the spliced together movie things they've released in the past. Even dare I say throw in the Holiday Special somewhere as a bonus feature in clear SD, as the bootlegs are of such terrible quality. I know they wont release all this stuff, but it's the 40th Anniversary and they really should go all out, this could be the last chance for some of this stuff to hit Blu as we have no idea how physical media will be come 2027. |

Yuck. Palpatine isn't Jar-Jar, he's not stupid. I don't mind changing ChimpFace for Ian, but the new dialog doesn't work for me. |

Fox already owned Star Wars in 1980, LucasFilm self-financed Empire and Jedi. Lucas got the copyright to Star Wars away from 20th Century when he agreed to a 20-year deal to allow them to distribute the prequels in 1999. All Fox has now is that distribution agreement which expires in 2019, and distribution rights to the original in perpetuity (until LucasFilm buys that out, too), and the only thing that means is that Fox has to release Star Wars whenever LucasFilm tells them to, and Fox gets paid for distributing it. We've been through this.

All Star Wars movies after the original (A New Hope) were self financed by Lucasfilm, which had retained the digital and television rights to its self financed films. The current theatrical and home video distribution deal with Fox (thru 2020) covers both the pre Disney sequels and prequels, as noted in Disney's recent SEC filings. https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/d...016_q4x10k.htm Quote:

As for the new set, I'd be fine with just the original cuts (props if they offered the different audio options for A New Hope), but I'd take the 1997 Special Editions as a bonus, as I think they're unique enough on their own to merit a restored release as historical curiosities if nothing else. Less interested in the inclusion of the 2004 versions, though, because I think they're close enough to what we already have on the current Blu-Ray set. Unless they went as far as to retain the darker color-scheme and the odd sound-mixing, but honestly who really wants to revisit them that way for any reason? Plus there's not much that can be done ' to the 04 versions onward since they were created entirely digitally with the current outdated Lowry scans. |

Personally I think it should be original theatrical and a "final cut" so to speak. Better than dealing with all other garbage.

Just going back to The Godfather for a minute, I was shocked to find out that the horse's head was real. I find this pretty sick even though the horse was going to be slaughtered anyway because the idea of a guy going down to a slaughterhouse to pick out a horse that looked like the one used in the film and whose head would be severed and delivered in an ice box just seems ****ed up in my opinion.

This is what people just don't understand, and seemingly never will judging by the posts that keep popping up again and again and again just because they read it on some ill-informed blog. [edit] Sure, the issue of a unified boxset becomes a teensy bit tricker after 2020 as Disney's home video arm will need to licence Ep IV from Fox, but if people think Fox will put a spanner in the works then they're badly underestimating the lure of free money (that's if Disney haven't already made them an offer they can't refuse for the distribution rights). Remember kids: LFL/Disney are ALREADY WORKING WITH FOX under the existing terms of the distribution deal... Last edited by Geoff D; 12-08-2016 at 09:37 AM. |

I guess someone could argue that you see hamburgers in movies and they're from dead cows. But seeing the slaughtering filmed or severed heads of animals gives me a sick feeling. I would feel the same way if a severed dog's head was in a movie just because it was going to be euthanized. |
