Man, posts like yours (and they're a dime a dozen in these forums) really rub me the wrong way. If you take a look at my post -- and all my posts -- I'm careful to present my opinions as OPINIONS. But blowhards like you who mistake opinion for fact bug the shit out of me. You are not the arbiter of truth. You do, in this case, hold the majority opinion... congratulations. But that does not make your words gospel. To quote my opinion and then pompously respond with the word "hardly" is f'ing intolerable and pompous as hell. "Hardly"?? No... "EXACTLY". My post, which you quoted, is EXACTLY my opinion and is a 100% accurate representation of the way I personally feel about that movie. You could say, perhaps: "wow, I really disagree", or "that's hardly the way I feel about that movie", but to wave your hand dismissively and say "hardly" as if I misquoted a known and quantifiable fact is insulting.

I'm in that minority too then. I don't get the hate for it. Sure, some of the dialogue is wooden but ALL of the prequels are like that. But it's got great action, some laughs and it has some scenes of genuine mystery and suspense. The pacing is far better too. It is more entertaining to me than TPM and ROTS put together. The scene between Obi-Wan and Dooku - "It may be difficult to secure your release..." - one of the best exchanges in the entire prequel trilogy.

I watched all 8 films last Spring and I my hatred for the prequels grows deeper with each viewing. They tarnish the originals. That was the last time I will watch them.

I haven’t seen the prequels in years and don’t intend on revisiting them anytime soon.

Thoroughly rotten films - each one worse than the last - IMO.

I used to think the prequels were pretty bad, then I saw Rogue One. I love the prequels by comparison.

I’m not even joking with my post above. Seeing Rogue One literally made me appreciate the prequels more than I used to. The prequels have a lot of fun moments in them. I didn’t find a single thing in Rogue One to be fun at all. Nor did it have a single interesting character. I thought it was one of the most boring, pointless movies I’ve ever seen.

IMO, the only Star Wars film that should be considered a "crime against humanity" is The Force Awakens. A hollow, nostalgia-driven soft reboot, which does nothing to expand the Star Wars saga. It makes the original trilogy completely pointless to boot, by destroying everything that our heroes fought to restore. All in a shameless attempt to recreate the Rebels vs. Empire scenario yet again.

I'm surprised that more original trilogy fans aren't outraged by The Force Awakens. I guess they just wanted more of the same, and didn't care about getting a proper sequel (see Blade Runner 2049).

TFA and Rogue One are clearly cash-ins but the direction is adequate, the writing isn't appallingly bad and the acting (which I think carries both films) is quite good. They are at the very least re-watchable as escapist diversions set in a familiar galaxy far, far away and that's all I really ask of this kind of franchise if they're going to continue putting out films.

The original trilogy was special and I don't expect their magic to be re-created. I do demand competence however and it's in that regard that the prequels failed in a spectacular way.

Did you not find any enjoyment in the big final battle at the very least? I actually thought the characters were quite interesting, not being the typical “good” archetypes, and being more in the middle. Anyway, I really loved Rogue One, it was TFA that didn’t float my boat very much.

Had a great time at Return of the Jedi. I think The Phantom Menace is the best of the Prequels. Attack of the Clones is a trainwreck. Revenge of the Sith has great moments. The Force Awakens was a warm blanket. Rogue One moved me.

Shoot me, I like most of the (real) Star Wars films.

My Take:

Return of the Jedi has a great opening, meanders a lot in the middle, but then makes up for it with a phenomenal climax.

Sith is my favorite prequel, which I've always regarded as almost a good movie-- it has a solid buildup and good pace, with relatively more inspired character writing and acting then the first two, but drops the ball at the end when everything is supposed to come together.

The Force Awakens is an entertaining "Greatest Hits" film, which I'm waiting on The Last Jedi and IX to see if it's going anywhere interesting. Rogue One was a serviceable but unessential piece of Star Wars: the new expanded universe.
