the only people that were "attacking" Tan were actual Chinese. There is a huge "thing" with them and a certain race and the way she was depicted on screen made them lash out at her. Granted, it shouldn't have been her they were aiming their criticisms at, but the writers, director and casting director.

As a kid I always liked ROTJ the best, probably because the five year old girl who loved bears is naturally going to like the movie where they save the day. Not to mention it being the movie where Leia had the most action; there weren't a lot of movies back then with strong female characters that I could watch at that age (and I didn't care about the outfit or the sex slave stuff- I wouldn't have even realized what was going on).

It's still a favorite today, I'd say Empire beats it but it's definitely up there. I definitely don't appreciate how it was "altered" but it's watchable. I do like having the mute button handy near the end, though. (I will say though Oola's actress aged pretty nicely to be able to reprise her role.)

I don't mind most of ROTJ's alterations, like blinking Ewoks and roaming herds of Bantha... but Vader's "noooo" at the end is the most obvious "screw you" from creator to fans that I've ever seen. So idiotic. And the Jedi Rocks sequence is literally unwatchable, to me. And I mean "literally" literally. As in: I don't watch it. Whenever I watch ROTJ, I press the "next chapter" button as soon as Jabba says "play that tune again", and WHOOSH, the party is interrupted by Boush bringing in Chewbacca. Works great. (I similarly skip over the first Vader scene in ROGUE ONE and absolutely plan to skip the
[Show spoiler]DARTH MAUL nonsense
when I own SOLO.)

Regarding the spoiler:

[Show spoiler]I haven't even seen that movie and I don't understand why they needed to put that stuff in.

I'm a fan and I'm fine with the "noooooo". I was fine without it too though.

Jedi Rocks makes me sad.

I remember the Ewoks being hated when Return of the Jedi first came out, as an 8 year old it didn't bother me. But I recall my older cousins moaning about it being a kids movie

My GF is the same way with the Ewoks. She still thinks they're cute and especially like the babies. lol

But we both agree that Leia's characterization was poor once they escaped Jabba's palace. She's a military leader in both SW and ESB but is relegated to a support role during the Endor mission. Would have been more appropriate to have her playing something like Mon Mothma's, Ackbar's or Han's role during the assault. On a related note, it felt like a missed opportunity putting Han on the ground instead of up in the Falcon. The ground assault team configuration in general feels like a ham-fisted attempt to get the gang together again for one last adventure IMO.

Leia's also made much softer on Endor. While it's true that characters can evolve, this didn't feel very earned. Combine it with her apparent decrease in status for the assault and she's essentially turned into a wife/mother role for the second half of the film complete with her interacting with the Ewok like he's a child. Han's character, and Ford's acting IMO, is also sub-par on Endor. He's given the emotional intelligence of a teenager when interacting with Leia, which is especially frustrating after the incredible 'I know' moment from ESB. He also just doesn't have much to do on Endor with Luke and Leia's speeder chase and Chewie's hijacking of the AT-ST the most interesting action set-pieces down there. As I said above, he'd have been better used up in the Falcon (perhaps with both Chewie and Lando as co-pilots).

Spoilering the last paragraph since it kind of veers into rant territory:
[Show spoiler]So yeah, I really don't think highly of the Endor sequences and that's not even taking the Ewoks into consideration. lol I still love ROTJ but that's mostly because I think the throne room stuff has the best writing and acting of the trilogy (McDiarmid is of course ridiculously good but I don't think Hamill gets the credit he deserves for his portrayal of Luke's growth into a mature Jedi) The way it's capped off with Vader's redemption, death scene and the subsequent funeral pyre/victory celebration/Force ghosts gets me to tear up every damned time. The insertion of the 'Noooooooo!' and Young Anakin ghost into the blu-ray SE are particularly unforgivable for me given how strong the original was during that stretch. Fortunately I have the Despecialized editions now and can finally watch these great films again.

I agree about Vader's noooo. It actually makes me not want to watch the Blu-Ray. The movie looks great in HD but many times I don't watch it when I remember that scene.

You skip the Vader scene in Rogue One?

And you are so unhappy with parts of Solo that you will skip through them but you already have plans to purchase AND watch it; you actually already have a plan for repeat viewings...

I doubt many people would complain if none of the later edits (SE, DVD, blu-ray) were included. I would like a comprehensive collection of trailers, TV spots and vintage making ofs, including From Star Wars to Jedi.

It's a pipe dream, but I'd love to see them include the mono mix as well.

Heck yeah, I skip the first Vader scene in ROGUE ONE (at his castle on Mustafar). It just feels like it doesn't belong, to me; like it's a scene entirely made by "the suits" that wanted more Vader, for marketing. Plus it's one too many planet-hopping trips for Krennic, in my opinion. The whole narrative flows SO much better without it, and WOW does the ending with Vader pack more punch if you haven't already seen him.

As for SOLO, why is it at all strange that I would want to buy a 2-hour 15-minute movie despite the fact that I'd like to skip two minutes of it? Simple math. And I find the SOLO ending SO much more satisfying if
[Show spoiler]Qira is simply claiming the dead guy's ship and title as "head of the big gang" for herself, rather than running off to some ex-Sith dude who should've died in PHANTOM MENACE
.

So yeah, I'm pretty friggin' sure of these personal preferences. Same reason I skip the Jedi Rocks abomination, yet enjoy the rest of RETURN OF THE JEDI. It's my own "fan edit", if you will, and makes it all more "solid" for me. Your space mileage may vary.

Agreed. I don’t know if it was filmed or not, but I like the Emperor’s dialogue in the novelisation - the stuff concerning Yoda. I’d love to see that footage - if it was filmed?
