Anybody have issues with volume levels on last night's episode (I watched it through HBO go on ATV 4k)? I had to crank my MV up +12db, to a level I've never had to put it to.
It was very bizarre. I tried exiting, turning AVR off/on, etc to see if something else was causing. |

We might never find out. The Red God magic, resurrection, Bran/Bloodraven, and the dead were presumably all supposed to be connected somehow. My guess is that the writers are dropping the ball, but I'm definitely hoping for some sort of "You thought it was over?" moment in the next 4 episodes.

I personally would of liked Jon to be the one to defeat the Night King since he and Theon are my favorite characters, but I can understand why Arya was the one to do it.

I loved last night's episode. It had suspense and scares. Loved the music in that episode. Was some of my favorite for the series. Also loved how we saw The Hound, and Grey Worm scared. Something we've never seen before.

Why should she gotten the kill besides pleasing the PC crowed? Jon’s the one that’s been dealing with them since the beginning. He was already in 2 major battles with the whites. For a guy as bad as The Night King is supposed to be I would like to know why he was afraid to fight Jon. The war was even a waste cause his generals never even got in on the fight. The producers have gotten really lazy and they managed to kill all excitement for the last 3 episodes for me. I don’t ever seeing myself rewatching this series again or the spinoff. They’ve been lazy with this show since day one. They won’t put any money into the show and they act like they wouldn’t make it back if they did. I wouldn’t let anyone involved with this show touch a franchise like Star Wars. At best they would fit right in with Netflix.

Overall, I liked the episode, but have to agree with some of the criticisms. As for the darkness, I don't think it's that on its own so much as piss-poor compression. Unbelivably ugly, smeary, blocky image, which in combination with being dark makes it hard to make anything out at times.
I also agree that the "plot armor" was too obvious at times. I had no expectations of who or how many should die, and sparing the characters that were spared doesn't bother me - it's more how and how unconvincing it was. Too many obvious situations where they should have no chance of survival, yet lived. But all in all, I still dug it. Wonderfully tense at times, and I genuinely thought Arya might not succeed there at the end. Quote:

As a member of a crowd who's neither PC nor triggered by PC, I thought Arya made perfect sense to make the kill. She is revenge driven and has been training more than any character in the series - not to mention that Bran gave her the knife, and it was alluded to by Melisandre. If I have any quibbles, it’s about how she did it. But having it be her made perfect sense, regardless of gender.

I think i understsnd the frustration of people having wanted more from a battle betwen the dead and living and how NK meets his end. I think what we got worked but wasn't amazing or as epic as it could have been. The dark of the scenes really took away a little something from the chaos of the fight and just made it more confusing to make out the action. I guess they felt it created more tension of where the dead were coming from or something.
I feel like stretching the battle out over more "phases" might have helped. Instead they had to cheap out on the Dothraki and wiped them all out in a frontal assault to literally things you could not see as a viewer. The lights going out i guess was a metaphor for hope disappearing from the living at the beginning when they felt optimism. The sudden winter storm as well was stupid. It served only the purpose of causing further confusion as a viewer. It just came so suddenly and stupidly. I think they used that cheap tactic only once before but yeah, just made the final battle scenes a little boring. I f they had a proper scrap of living and dead, it would have definitely played better but maybe they were side stepping technical constraints or something. Overall the episode delivered, but you always think what if a tweak here or there happened. As viewers, we paint our own stories of what we think should happen. Although i'm overall fine with what they did. |

She wasn’t training to kill The Night King. If you are talking about this season she was just walking around and having sex with her boyfriend and have him make a weapon for her that she didn’t use.

Overall, I thought the episode was good, but there just seemed to be a few issues and there just felt like something was missing that I really can't explain.
Yes, it was too dark. Pretty much can't add much more to that. Sam's plot armor was horrible here. He's being swarmed by the undead and isn't really fighting and is just seen screaming, yet he somehow survives? Made absolutely no sense, and felt like I was watching something that wasn't Game of Thrones at that moment. Loved the character moments and Theon's arc in the episode. Still, I think this was the only time in the show's history after a battle episode where I left feeling disappointed. |
