Never watched the show and don't know anyone else who watched it. Not much into Sci Fi TV shows. I don't think Battle Star Galactica will make much of a dent compared to Pirates, especially since I am sure it will be way more, probably around $100 like Heros. ($70 on Amazon).

I dont think anyone who has posted is screaming "battlestar will win!". Theyre saying they'd rather have BSG over Pirates:AWE. I would too.
BSG is one of the best TV shows out there. Saying that its a cult following is probably accurate...but isnt just about any scifi show? Firefly definetly is (hence the unfortunate cancel). Star Trek series....hmmmmmm dont see many wives, and people in general, lining up to see those movies. Pirates will outsell BSG, no contest. But which is a better? IMO BSG kicks the frak out of Pirates:AWE as far as story, AND acting (*ducks*). I wasnt too fond of the 3rd Pirates, but BSG remains one of my favorite shows of all time. Too bad about the whole Universal thing. Ive boycotted them completley until they go Blu. |

I think Pirates 3 will sell better Battlestar.
I believe Battlestar has more of a cult following then anything else. I tried to watch the show, stop watching it half way thought season 2. I guessing I'm not alone because the Rates have been dropping every year and they're ending it this upcoming season. Then again we're talking about the Sci-fi Channel. Let's look at there track record with cancelling Sci-fi shows; Sliders, Farscape, Stargate SG-1, & The Dresden files. ![]() And in return we get Painkiller Jane, Monster movies that are so bad you can't watch them, Reality TV (Who Wants to be a Superhero, Ghost Hunters, etc...) and of course the famous ECW ![]() ![]() The only show I'll be watching will be Stargate Atlantis, but I have a feeling Sci-fi channel will cancel this one too. ![]() So Yes Pirates 3 will sell a more than Battlestar, I say at least 3 to 1 |

The new one is a blasphemous abomination that if I were Bill Gates, I would have bought Universal instead of NBC and burned every master tape, and then kicked David Eick and Ron Moore out the door. Literally. Boots in the ass. See the Bryan Singer BSG revival that should have been, that was respectful and loving of the original while still modernizing it, where it was "next-gen"'d, instead of raped and twisted. Where more than just the proper nouns were the same. See all the good ideas that were in there from the Abomination that Ron Moore threw a hissy fit when he found out that DeSanto had them first. http://www.cylon.org/bsg/bsg-desanto-01.html http://www.cylon.org/bsg/DeSanto-int01.html Quote:
No matter what you think of the original, it has the right not to be made into something it's not, and Doctor Who proved that with a crew of people who care and love you can have the original cake and eat it too. They were building sets, and Vipers when Fox made Singer go do X2, and the network's interest dried up http://www.cylon.org/bsg/desanto-prod-01.html See Cylons that aren't cheesy CG crap, but men in suits that using modern techniques you can move in http://www.cylon.org/bsg/bsg-global-01.html So be happy that at a $100 SRP, and the fact that a gigantic percentage of the ever-shrinking fanbase(based on ratings) has nice HD downloads capped from Universal HD Oh, Serenity COULD be called Firefly, but Universal wanted to have their own seperate franchise for it. They have a 10 year/3 movie license on the franchise. Rest assured Pirates will do 100,000 copies long before Battlestar Blasphemy manages 10K |

I will admit, if Bryan Singer did the series instead, it might have been better.... since he is a truly gifted director (at least for Xmen he is... Superman was awful). |

Sorry, the new BSG is one of the best shows on television and among the best sci-fi ever done. The original show was a cheesy Star Wars rip off. It is embarrassingly bad to watch now. Best show on TV.

Use to watch the original Battlestar but just couldn't get into the new one, so that said I wouldn't even give it a glance.

Nice try though. Quote:
Before anyone says anything, I've seen every episode. Moore has no clue where he's going, and judging by the 45min I sat through at San Diego Comic Con before being denied my chance to confront him, more interested in which characters bang each other and how much he hates the original than anything else. Even Roddenberry was more subtle with the half black/half white face people, and Riker with the androgynous pod person on TNG. |

IMO, they're so different they would have been better off calling it something else to help avoid comparisons. I probably would have given the new BSG more of a chance if I wasn't continually thinking about what they changed and how different they are, etc. |

They know exactly where they are going. They are wrapping everything up in season 4 so they can finish off well.... unlike other shows like Lost where they REALLY have no clue where they are going sometimes.
I really think beating us over the head with stuff is ok, as that is often the point of a lot of older, very respected sci-fi (Martin Chronicles, Robot series of books)... and that is just fine. The point of this one might be totally different from the point of the old show, but what is wrong with that? |

The New BSG, It seems a large part of the episodes are the characters standing around having banal conversations. The action is a very small part of each episode. Every planet looks like earth, not once did you see a second moon or sun in the sky, nor did you see animals an/or another civilization There's a total lack of background. No explanation as to how the Cylons came to be, why they attacked, what sort of civilization the humans have, their level of technology, their culture, etc. There were whole episodes about a Presidential election. (Can't I just watch The West Wing for politics?) There is a running ridiculous theme about the Cylons and God, but of course, this is never explained. You want good Sci-fi shows, let have Babylon 5, Star Trek TNG, Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis, Farscape. all of these show have a lot more Sci-fi than BSG. Even Firefly was better and it also lack alot of sci-fi. Last edited by MasterXeus; 08-14-2007 at 04:42 PM. |

The god complex in the original was a rehash of Mormon mythology, where if they reach a certain level when they die, they ascend to a higher plane (the ship of lights). Baltar recognizes the voice of Count Iblis as the voice of the Cylon Imperious Leader, and had the show gone on (it was a top 10 show, cancelled because of ABC hubris at the time that all their shows were genius and whatever show they replaced it with would be cheaper and higher rated), it would have been revealed that Iblis had guided the evolution of the Cylon race to do battle with the worlds the Ship of Lights was protecting (yes, before Babylon 5) Instead of taking the Terminator rehash that Moore did, the original was...mostly original The Furlings (yes people, guess where Stargate got the name) were a neighboring race that the Colonies had a mutual defense pact with, and when the Cylons attacked them it set off the thousand year war. If you look at it, what Ron Moore wanted to remake was Space Above and Beyond. The only real difference between the Silicates and the Cylons is the fanatical god complex and the gambling .The rest of the story is identical. Even the ship designs, MAJORLY similar on the alien side. They even had their "Chiggy von richtovan" episode that was remarkably similar to "Scar", the pointless ground missions involving highly trained pilots instead of Marines.... Ironically, a huge percentage of the SAAB FX team cut their teeth on the real Galactica. And those planet episodes, always such time wasters, it's like they know what's going on upstairs isn't as interesting when they can't afford fighter combat this week. And how about the score? The stupid jungle drums instead of Stu Phillips' rousing orchestral work. He re-recorded it with the Royal Scottish Philharmonic a few years back, check it out, it's better than the original. Quote:
ST:TNG did it very well by moving up the clock. TOS still happened, everything was there, lots of the original writers on board, but match to modern sensibilities. Moore just saw how he could ride the coattails of a show that still had a lot of love out there to do his own little thing. He complains that nerds are "allergic to sex", I counter that nerds are allergic to POINTLESS animalistic sex outside of appropriate context. Look at Terminator, Cameron builds the whole thing up thematically and emotionally till you get to that pivotal scene. Moore has a pilot banging the crew chief 5 minutes in. If people want, I can relate the entire horror behind G80, that I got direct from the lips of those who lived it ![]() |

I agree with those stating that Pirates will outsell BSG
However, if sales went according to which is more worthwhile watching (in my opinion), HD DVD would have a win here! I suppose Blu-ray will win here on quantity not quality, but hey ho... still a win! |

I notice you like Smallville
Smallville is actually the reason I was denied my confrontation with Moore, because people said nasty things to them a few years before about raping Superman and making Clark the Supervillain Slayer, and since then no one at SDCC, the nexus of nerdom is allowed to say mean things to anyone |
