If there's anything new coming up, it will be announced at the D23 convention in August. It's what the convention is there for. Announcements.

I think it’s heavily rumored (saw on digital bits) that 4K releases that may include the original unaltered trilogy should be coming in early 2020 probably about the time episode 9 comes to home video or I’m guessing May 4th for Star Wars day

Well I certainly hadn't heard of any recent showings of the original unaltered film until now . Heck, most of the things I've read are that it'd be impossible to put out the UOT because the negatives were affected during Lucas' revisionist times but if there's a 70mm print out there of A New Hope then that could be a pretty good source.

Why were the Star Wars films released as 4-5-6. 1-2-3, & then 7-8-9?

[Show spoiler]Because in charge of sequencing, Yoda was!

Here's another not-sure-what-this-means-but-interesting bit of info.

On the "Seventies" episode of CNN's "The Movies," a few clips of the original Star Wars are shown. It's labeled as just "Star Wars," and there are a few shots from the original version in HD.

Also, the whole movie aired on Turner Classic Movies tonight, but I'm not sure which version was shown.

It was definitely not the original on TCM, it was some form of the Special Edition, either the 2004 version or the 2011 one. Looked like 2004 to me, actually.

Hopefully no one actually thought TCM would be showing the unblemished original or anything crazy like that.

I was surprised to find out this actually aired on TCM tonight!

How often does that happen?!

Not sure, but it's aired quite a bit on TBS and TNT recently (2011 version).

You know what guys? With all these little tidbits lately, and with the Disney-Fox merger likely clearing many of the hurdles, and supposing that Disney will want to regain some goodwill with the fanbase after The Last Jedi, I'm going to go out on a limb and boldly predict that I think we will indeed finally get official releases of the original unaltered trilogy this year or next. It's just a gut feeling. I think it's finally going to happen.

This year or 2020? Maybe with the disc release of episode 9, but I am doubting it. Disney would more than likely wait for the next anniversary, which would be 2022.

Yep.

And as someone who was there at that screening - while it was great to see it on 70mm, "immaculate" is in the eye of the beholder. A bunch of die hard fans at a single screening - sure, it looked fantastic. But it was still a film print with all those inherent problems, and if regular non-film geek audiences were shown this across the nation they would be *****ing and moaning about how terrible it looked/sounded (i.e., not a pristine digital projection, lots of scratches, color differences between reels, a repaired film tear when the Death Star explodes, occasionally muffled soundtrack with pops/static, etc.) compared to what they are used to nowadays.

We'll get a possible clue next week when this year's Sept 22 BD & DVD re-releases of the existing Star Wars films get announced.

https://dealsareus.ca/search?q=star+wars

Now personally, I doubt the OUT gets included in this re-release, but you never know. Maybe Disney will want to restore goodwill with the fan base before Ep 9 comes out in December. What better way to do that than to release the OUT.

Still, if they're going to release it, I more expect them to do so in next year's rumored 4K Ep 1-9 box rather than this year. But like I said, you just never know.

I have a gut feeling that Disney will release everything they can Star Wars Movie related because they are in it for the money, you will get an unaltered, partly altered and a little bit altered so you didn't notice much editions.

So I’ve started finally organizing my music in iTunes so I can sync it to my iPhone and the ten Star Wars scores from Disney (1-8, Solo, Rogue One) in HiRes are ALMOST 27GB TOTAL IN FILE-SIZE HOLY CRAP

If you include Sony’s own HiRes transfers of the original masters in the “Ultimate Digital Collection” released two or so years ago, that adds another 8GB or so. (Disney recreated the first six using the HiRes multitrack audio from the movies instead of licensing/buying the original album masters from Sony )

Agreed. The scores for FORCE AWAKENS and LAST JEDI are my faves after the original STAR WARS and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. The prequels may've had higher peaks, but the Disney era scores are more consistently listenable from start to finish, for me.

Rogue One is really the best of the lot. I've listened to it incessantly.

That score really grew on me. I actively disliked it when it first came out; as in, it detracted from my enjoyment of the movie... but now I love (most of) it. I still think the main theme that hits during the opening title sounds like a cheap made-for-TV STAR WARS knock-off... and I really can't stand the tiny bit of score when they're first climbing the data tower; sounds to me like the composer didn't know what the hell to do with the music.... but the rest of it is pure gold.
