For starter, Blu-ray players aren't "DVD Blu-ray players", just simply Blu-ray players. Through the HDMI input it does upconvert DVD's very nicely, and honestly unless you're sitting very close to the screen, you will not see a difference between 1080i and 1080p at your tv's size.
