We also have the Sharp BD-HP20. We have the most current update and I've changed the playback settings and done the factory reset to no avail. Prior Twilight, we've had no problems playing other BD discs. Seems to me it's a disc problem, and not the player. If it was just one model or one manufacturer, I could see it being a firmware issue, but it seems the prolem is with multiple models / manufacturers.

Yes, you're probably correct. But what I don't understand is how a machine will play all other discs and not one specific disc. I don't know anything about Blue-Ray technology. Don't BD discs have to be produced to the same minimum standard just like all machines should be, so problems like this don't arise? When a new movie comes out, why does the onus fall on the manufacturer to fix problems....seems backwards to me.

On a side note, phoned Block Buster who we pre-ordered our disc from and they've had no other complaints. A co-worker also has the Sharp BD-HP20. I'm going to give him our disc tomorrow to try and I'll let you know how we make out.

Maybe your player only plays good movies? lol. Though it sounds like a firmware issue to me.

I emailed Sharp Canada telling them of the issue and stated that apparently everyone with the player is experiencing this issue and they had this to say:

Thank you for contacting Sharp Electronics of Canada Ltd.

We are showing that all movies have been tested and are working fine in this player. We recommend contacting a Customer Service Representative at 905-568-7140. The representative will need to get more information to assist you in getting this issue resolved

I have the same Blu-ray player and I spoke to a CSR at Sharp and they told me they received more calls about this issue with Twilight so they are running test with all there Blu-ray players that they have build and then they will put out a firmware update. The update will take two weeks to complete and be ready for us to download.

Yeppers all we have to do is wait !!!
Or if someone in the family bought the dvd version like my sister just play it till then !!!

If it is your player, then it is the f/w. WTF is their C.S. trying to say by making this statement?

Hello Room-

I started a thread regarding issues with the Panasonic BD30 and Twilight earlier with 2.5 version software installed. For some reason a few people went crazy over a question . Nevertheless I spoke with Panasonic earlier and they are sending me a disc with 2.8 version firmware installed on it to load on to my player .This version was released on March 19th a week before the Twilight release and is not listed on this site .This should resolve the problem . However Panasonic claims that it is a movie issue and not their player. I will keep you posted if in fact the problem is solved . For those who wish to obtain a copy also call 1-800-211-7262 and they will send you one also.

Best Regards

Michael

If it is an issue with the movie way are they sending you a firmware update to get the movie to play? Looks like an issue of software / hardware incompatibility to me. The hardware manufacturer blames the software writer and visa versa. Eventually the hardware manufacturer will say "you need to upgrade to get new discs to play". This could limit the success of blu ray down the road. I plan on getting at least 5 years or more out of a player and if they're dropping like flies when a studio releases a new disc I will not be too pleased with that.

Got the same email today about the issue. I spoke to Roger at customer service for Sharp in North America in Illinois. There's no need to bring in your blu-ray player to be fixed it's bologny. Oh yeah I returns the first copy since I thought it was a died, and got another one but I tried it at Best Buy on other blu ray players it worked perfectly.

Well this SUCKS...

I also have a BD30, just installed the 2.8 as well and no joy - also won't play Twilight as noted...

I really got pssd with this... - First I tried to burn a disc on my laptop, ohhhh nooooo, it's Vistacrap , so that and the other software on the laptop won't work, then to another pc with XP, okay, there you go, it's updated, but nooooo, it didn't fix it anyway , so despite renting a movie, and the hassle for that, as well as sitting down to enjoy it but you can't, and despite playing even more games to try to get it to work, ohhh noooo, tooo bad , game over, return the disk and move on...

...somewhere there is an asshle that thought he had a great idea about the software for the Twilight blu ray setup - - I hope someone put a big boot in his rear today

I have a Sony BDPS550... for those of us who haven't purchased yet, can anyone confirm that it is working on that player? Was planning on surprising my daughter today with it.
