I have the same questions. There were quite a few MGM DVDs all having the same DT-specific (September wave) UPC and none of them listed the aspect ratio (i.e. widescreen 16x9 anamorphic) nor sound format (like DD 5.1 or 2.0) as prior MGM DVDs did. Has anyone opened any of these DT MGM DVDs to confirm if they are the same widescreen transfers/discs as the previous MGM releases with real UPCs?

I only opened one of the MGM DVDs that I got today: Radio Days. I found that it is widescreen 16x9 even though the back doesn't mention the aspect ratio.

In this batch, the DVDs have no stickers on top of the wrapping, and all the bar codes are similar.

These waves haven't been kind to the Midwest and West the last several times. Not expecting that to change much as keeping the items closer to the distribution centers on the East save DTs money.

I only picked up Angel. I can't add it to the site either due to no ASIN and UPC issue.

Oh nooooooo! Another problem to worry about! I haven't opened any of my recent DT DVDs and I never look carefully at the logos on the spine. I incorrectly assumed all media sold at stores was pressed.

Having learned that certain manufacturers are notorious in making DVD-R (or DVD+R) media with a short shelf life, now I have to worry about getting DVD-Rs from DT that might already be bad or go bad soon. Has anyone checked to see if these ITN DVD-Rs always use DVD-5 or ever DVD-9 dual layer? If it's DVD-5, then we have to worry that extras might have been stripped off the original pressed DVD-9 to make a DVD-5. If it's DVD-9, those tend to degrade more. Regardless, this is more bad news on top of not having aspect ratios or sound formats listed on many DVDs. I wonder how long until we start getting BD-Rs at DT.

I might give up on DT movie waves at some point if it degrades to mostly DVD-5 recordables with unknown aspect ratios and features. Selling them at $1 each, I doubt they are using the better Taiyo-Yuden or Ritek media and instead probably using media from China or India.

I assume the DVD-R's were supposed to be MOD through amazon for a short period, but since that was stopped and you can't find a listing for them on the site. I guess those that were "Pressed" were sent to DT with the new UPC code instead of the "Manufactured by Amazon.com" UPC.

I have many DVD-R's, so it doesn't bother me at all. That's usually the only way some Indie Horror Directors can get their films out.

Most of the Gravitas Ventures titles that have been at Dollar Tree are BD-Rs. I have quite a few of them.

The DVD-Rs wouldn't bother me for a $1 if it was a decent title. After all, a lot of the Warner Archive DVDs now are DVD-R. That said, some of those titles (such as Lake Fear, Lake Fear 3, Straight Outta Oakland 2) are bad enough that it wouldn't matter if it was a low quality DVD-R as you'd never want to watch them more than once (and maybe not even once).

I don't know if I've seen a good ITN title yet, so, easy enough to avoid (though any recommendations are welcome).
