Obviously a flame-starter. All of the OP's complaints currently apply equally as well to HD DVD, thanks to AACS. If he was actually upset with a logical reason, then he would have complained about both. He's a pirate and/or HD DVD fan.

I'll admit I "back up" dvd movies and am somewhat of a cheapskate. But I decided to buy blu-ray because it is the superior format. I'm sure that blu-ray will be able to be backed up one day. Hackers always beat the system.
But right now I'd rather support blu-ray buy buying discs. You are not supporting hddhvd by copying them ![]() |

You want to complain about BD+ on Blu-Ray and say that is why you will not buy Blu-Ray? Much like this thread, it isn't going anywhere. |

So you may want to re-read your thread and maybe you will see why people are responding to you the way they are. If you don't want to support Blu ray that is your choice and is fine, but there are many that do support it. |

oh my God, this topic over and over again!!!!!!
first of all, u r not welcomed if u dont obey the law!!! Blu Ray is a SONY's prodcuts like everything else SONY makes, copy right is very important, most ppl dont like this cuz they only have enough money to afford one copy, so it is the SINGLE reason why lot of ppl dont buy much better SONY MP3 Walkman but garbadge like Ipoo!!! which is very upsetting!!!! "I Back up only movies I own", doesnt matter, u do know that u only bought the hard copy of that one Disc... not the copy right of the movie, so u have no right to copy the movie or music in any way!!!!!!!! Period!!!!!!! I say ppl work harder, make more money, do not complain things like this, and frankly, I'll say this again, who ever dont obey the law and wanna play cheap... suit urself, u r not welcomed!!!! buying SONY is not just a product, it's a life style whicih u have to spend a LOT of money, if u cannot afford or not willing to, better off just stay away!!!! |

Blurip hasn't really replied recently...
"backing up" a disc is useless. Watching High Definition content on a computer seems retarded, unless it is a 42" monitor. The fact that Blu-rays cannot be pirated is leading to more studio and CE support. I am all for copy protection. Because people who steal go to hell and watch HD DVD with Hitler. |

Blurip,
MMC (Mandatory Managed Copy) is something that will be supported on both formats...we still await any type of logical reply from you as to your thought process on BD+...and I'm afraid we'll be waiting...and waiting... |

While the concept is interesting, actually getting it done is still a little impractical based on hardware requirements. If you're going go through all of this trouble, it will be because you have a LOT of movies that you will want ripped to your media server. So 1 TB would be roughly 20 fifty gig blu-rays. Not a lot of movies. Roughly 33 thirty gig hd-dvds; again, not a lot of movies, at least not enough to warrant the investment in equipment. So up it to 2 TB and double your capacity. Well, we are talking hundreds of dollars here if we are going 2+ TB, especially if you are going the NAS route {which, hello, you would be}. We're investing hundreds of dollars in network storage. Doesn't really sound like something a stereotypical hd-dvd supporter would do to be honest. This dude probably has like a 320 gig hard drive, which will of course hold a lot of DVDs, but when you start dumping high def media to it, space runs out pretty quick. "Gotta have those 10 hd-dvds backed up son lawl." I'm guessing he hasn't thought this thing through very thoroughly yet. tl;dr: ripping high def media is currently kind of impractical |

Buying blu-ray has not been any problem what so ever for our family. We bought a player, we rent and buy movies and they play perfectly. And guess what? They DON'T scratch!! They always play and it all works perfectly unlike what I read about all the time from the DUD side.

Actually, Blu-ray Discs can and have been cracked. Blu-ray Disc with BD+ technology is new and is uncrackable at the moment.

Ignoring the trollage for a moment. Lets say you copied a movie to a server, and wanted to watch it on your TV. How would you do that? You'd need to have a wired (wireless is too slow) connection to a media playback device that's hooked up to your TV. In addition said media playback device would have to be powerful enough that you can actually play it at full speed, which means either a PS3 or a modern pc. Both can play back BDs locally, so the only thing you'd gain is not having to move your butt over to the media rack and then insert the disc into the player.
