I don't know who would be more angry with you -the "I hate 3D" crowd or the "no remakes never" crowd.

Personally I'd love to see Lucas release a complete and unaltered HD version of the OT, then remake it from scratch to do anything he felt went undone in the original. Star Wars Episode IV-IX Avatar style.

Also, since I had watched the VHS tapes a couple of dozen times, I was really pleasantly surprised to see one of the Sandpeople through Lukes micro-binoculars, the flaming TIE Fighter pilot in the asteroid field and also that one Star Destroyer captain that fickers out from an asteroid hit, in Vader's holographic meeting with them during the Falcon's escape.

I don't think it'll happen, but who knows. Anything is possible!
Yea, that just doesn't seem like something that Lucas would ever do, but everybody changes their mind. And one thing for sure, if he does go ahead with it, Avatar's box office record will be shattered beyond belief.

Good point, but if he can do it right and get some other directors involved, I believe that anger would disappear.

Yes, that's the key. Give ALL THE FANS what they want ( It sure worked for that awesome Bladerunner set, didn't it?), then go to town with them and throw in the kitchen sink as well.

I just do not see how he doesn't get this, because then EVERYBODY is happy, and they would rake in INSANE amounts of cash to boot.

I've been reading lucas is not going to remaster the old films...so does this mean we are screwed on picture quality?

That is my concern as well, since the 2004 DVDs were a sloppy mess regarding color saturation, crushed blacks and a very botched soundtrack.

Don't tell me that the very minor changes for the DVDs destroyed the movies for you!?!?!?!

Can you tell us why this is important to you?

Thank goodness Lucas isn't Cameron!

I don't think Avatar's box office record would be shattered, since the Prequels didn't rake in that much money either, and SW isn't as commercial as Avatar to begin with. There is no crappy Pop song at the end of a SW movie, ever!!!

You kidding?

As long as he stays away from the scrip, he would make an absolutely KICK ARSE 'Star Wars' movie. IMO

Oh yea?

What about 'Jedi Rocks'? Though it was near the beginning in the last SW movie.

I also have these on my DVR I only hate all the "Commercials"!

I have also played the DVDs on my blu-ray player and IMHO the Spike HD Versions have better color. but I am sure the 1080p box set blu's will blow that out of the water! when released.

I agree with him. For one, the pod race was long enough in the original version.

Come on!! Jedi Rocks can't be compared to a crappy pop song that makes any person with remotely good taste

Jedi rocks is a fun rock 'n' roll song.

Easily up there with Stairway to Heaven or Crossroads as a rock 'n' roll classic.

I will likely not rush out to buy the Blu-Rays until there is confirmation about the DVD changes where the original actors faces have been digitally replaced with the actors from the new trilogy. This bothers me more than any of the other changes that have been made.

This is one of the changes I'm talking about for those unfamiliar with it:
I guess I'm not that familar with the debate. I thought people were upset because Lucas added new scenes and updated some effects. If this is true that he removed actors I think it's very wrong of him artistically. That actor (maybe no longer living) has that as a credit to his career. I think it's ok for Lucas to update and play with the films but leave access to the original material as well. That's a shame.

of course, i'll be buying the ultimate collectors edition (should such a thing exist, and i'm sure it will)but, i'd also like to think with the capacity of blu ray that they could fit both versions of each movie on one disc making it a 6 disc set for movies plus say one blu ray just for all the extras. I would put all the extras for all movies on one blu-ray disc in 1080p & lossless audio too! that's what i would do. making it a 7 blu-ray disc set. that would be sweet with a special wrap around cover with art from all the movies from front to back. i would also put movie art sleves as page turners inside the case to show the artwork for each movie as you get to it so that it looks like multiple cases within a master case. don't forget to throw some collectable holographic cards in each case; oh yeah, you would get the complete set of cards with the ultimate edition to make people what to buy that one.

that's my dream, what's yours

I wish the OP would have included the "Whatever film is released on blu-ray" option.

Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet has reportedly confirmed, discussing very little details with a panel at the C2E2 comic convention in Chicago, that the company is now working on a Blu-ray Disc box set of all six Star Wars films loaded with extras.

As stated by Steve Sansweet, "We have been at work for a couple of years working on - I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff - but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material. We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about... there are some real treasures."

Industry sources say you'll be enjoying "The Force" in 1080p next October (2011).

There is no other official information at this time
IN 2007, George Lucas said no Star Wars on either Blu-ray or HD-DVD. PC World contacted them and in May 2007 and here was the response,

"Lucasfilm Ltd. has no plans to release any of the Star Wars movies on Blu-ray or HD DVD. Listings on Amazon.com or any other Web site are purely speculative and erroneous."

Jump to Aug 2009 interview with Steve Sansweet:

Question: Is there any talk whatsoever, and I'm not even going to ask for a date because I know that's ridiculous, but is there any talk about the STAR WARS movies on a high definition format?

Answer: Yeah. I mean obviously we've been looking at that for a couple of years and I think one of the questions is when is the market penetration there and these days, will there be a market penetration before everything goes streaming? But we've been looking at an ultimate box set of the Star Wars movies, all six of the movies. And what special features would be. And clearly these days, if you did an ultimate box set and didn't do it in HD, Blu-ray, it just wouldn't make any sense. So now it's a matter of thinking okay, we've been thinking about this for a while, we know what kind of assets we want to use, we've done some work in cleaning up things, it's really a matter of making that decision of when's the best time to release it.

Do you wait and have an event because you're working off of the fact that there's going to be a new live action TV series?

All those things are very much in motion. I can say with pretty good confidence that at some point in the next several years there will be a complete set of STAR WARS movies and lots of extras and deleted footage and anything anyone could want. Although I say that with some trepidation now because our fans want everything, "Why the Holiday Special wasn't on there, you ruined my life!"

But in the next few years there will be an ultimate box set and certainly a Blu-ray set.

================================================== =======

Lucus moves like molasses. The speculation after the Aug. interview was that the box set would come out when the Clone Wars movie came out. Wrong. I will believe a Blu-ray offering is coming out when I can pre-order it. Keep your fingers crossed that George stays healthy until this set gets released. Anything happens to him, he probably has it in his will to never release it because he couldn't have final say on the finished product.
