While I didn't enjoy it as much as Czar did (I still enjoyed it), if you were going into this film thinking it was anything but way over the top, then you went in with the wrong mind set. I'm not saying you should like it. I'm just saying that it wasn't meant to be anything but what it is.

I'll argue that.
![]() There is no argueing that it is a 5 star show. Everything about the entire series is excellent. And while the PQ and AQ are outstanding, there are more than a handfull out there that exceed it IMO. The tin it comes in is so classy and detailed, it should win an award for best packaging. Adam
I saw this last night with the gf and we both loved it. It's an incredibly heart-warming film about a young man with Asperger's syndrome and his relationship with his neighbor. They take interest in one another in a very peculiar way because of how Adam must express himself. It is full of touching moments and without the romance clichés. Though the subplots go in some questionable directions, I can confidently say Adam is the best romantic drama of 2009 next to 500 Days of Summer (although 500 is more of a romantic comedy, both are very unique in their own right). I suggest anyone looking for a unique romance film check this one out. 4/5 |

Le Trou (1960)
A Black and White French prison break film directed by Jacques Becker. I have to say I really enjoyed this Criterion DVD. The film is about five men sharing one cell and attempting to dig their way out of prison. It's mostly dialogue of course, taking place in confined quarters obviously. I loved some of the directing choices, but i feel compelled to give a word of warning to those that dont like LONG takes. Becker is not afraid to "park" the camera and allow the lens to be filled with the constrained events unfolding within the cramped environments. One scene in particular, early in the film, has the unmoving camera aimed at a one meter area on the floor for a very very long time, with no cuts, as each man takes his turn to chip away at the concrete. It lasts forever, and I loved it because it drove home the point of how tedious the work was and how difficult the challenge was. The film has little character development and really didnt need it. Its all about the present. It succeeds at capturing the claustrophobic nature of prison and digging tunnels. Equally as well, it succeeds at capturing the growing level of trust and a bond between a group of men who share a common fate, destiny and goal. A novelty of the film that I really enjoyed, (maybe it's the MacGyver in me ![]() PQ: I wont score it, but the PQ was darn good for a DVD and the 1.66:1 aspect ratio felt very tight and real. Good stuff. AQ: I was blown away by the AQ. Dolby MONO and it sounded great. The audio plays a big role in this movie, as silence at times is paramount, yet breaking concrete and cutting metal cant be done in complete silence. ![]() Film 4.25/5 and solidly recommended. Do they make it out? See it to find out. ------------------------------------ I'd like to thank the member who recommended this to me, but I cant remember who it was. Shame on me, and Thanks! |
