A lot of these ideas sound cool.

I don't know if new commentary is necessary unless it's going to cover something substatial that wasn't covered in the previous commentaries. If he's only going to rehash most of what was already covered in previous commentaries, then we just may as well listen to the previous commentaries.

The same kind of goes for newer interviews. Don't get me wrong, new extra content is nice. But to me I find it more interesting if any new interviews will actually cover new ground. If it's just going to be Mark Hamill telling pretty much the same stories/memories that he has of making the movies that he told in many previous interviews over the course of the years since the movies came out (for example), then just put the old interviews on there and call it a day. If he has something new and different to share that for the most part he hasn't in the past, then that's another story altogether.

It's kind of like when the Back to the Future movies (pretty much my all-time favorite films) came out on Blu-Ray last year. They have a whole new series of interviews/documentaries on them, which were pretty cool. But a good portion of them was rather a rehash of what was said on the documentaries from the original DVD release (which were also included on the Blu-Ray). They did go above and beyond a lot of that (getting more interviews from cast and crew members than they did for the original DVDs), and some things went into more detail, so there was a good amount of new material. But the parts where the same people are basically telling the same stories that they already told in the original documentaries, only now they are a few years older... that doesn't exactly make for the most interesting extras IMO.

So, I hope any new commentaries/interviews that they might do for these movies will actually cover new/different ground than any previous ones.

I wouldn't hold my breath on being able to turn of special effects during the movies. I don't see that being realistically feasable as an extra feature.

I actually DON'T want the UOT carried over from the previous DVD releases. If they aren't properly remastered for Blu-Ray, then I'd rather they just not be released at all (my DVDs of them still work fine anyway). Carrying over the existing transfers would just be even more of an excuse not to do them properly later on, so I say leave those off.

And I don't see the point in formating the discs for 3D trailers when the bulk of the content isn't in 3D. It just seems like a waste of special formatting to do so. IF they do decide to do something like this (which I doubt will happen), then hopefully they would put any and all 3D trailers together on one of the bonus discs and not on the actual movie discs.

I certainly hope so... the next Insider issue might bring some clarity. The big headline is "Picture Perfect" so I hope we will actually see some perfect pictures in that one.

Unless we get the original's as well. You never know after the release fans will want the UOT and the OT 2004 SE's....
I agree that I don't think they're clones in the OT. I always thought the cloning facilities on Kamino were destroyed.

That said, I could easily see GL replacing the Stormtrooper voices with Temuerra Morrison for continuity reasons. Besides, I don't believe the destruction of Kamino is canon.

Interesting thoughts. I don't think 8, 9, 10 and 11 are going to happen. I do think we will get the following though (this is a Star Wars product, emphasis on the word 'product' so expect 'filler' of features to sell other items:

1. Preview of the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG.
2. Clones Wars Season 4 preview
3. 'Easter Egg' on TPM showing insight on the 3-D conversion process
4. Probably a featurette on Star Wars Merchandising over the years
5. A look at the Music of John Williams
6. Audio Commentary by the one and only Ahmad Best in Character as Jar Jar for all 6 movies.

Those are my guesses in addition to things you already mentioned. I am joking about number 6 for those without a sense of humor...

That doesn't make sense. 90% of the films are special effects. No explosions, no light sabers, no CGI, no blue/green screen? There wouldn't be much left and it would require 80% additional footage on each disc. Not gonna' happen.

Many years ago, I saw Tom Holman (of THX fame) give a demo of a Star Wars scene where first he played it with just the original location sound. Then he added the looped dialog. Then the foley effects. Then a first layer and second layer of additional sound effects. Finally the music. It was a great demo that demonstrated how each level of audio contributes to the film in ways that aren't necessarily obvious when we're watching the movie. I'd love to see an extra that includes such a demo.

Now to something completely different.

Does Yoda give Luke any saber-training on Dagobah?

No the only time Luke uses his saber is when he goes into the cave.

I think Yoda was concentrating on teaching Luke how to run away properly.

I wonder what was the Dagobah timeline? Was it over the afternoon or did it take several days? He was a quick study though as Yoda thought with more training he would be able to confront Vader and the Emperor.

What do you guys think hours, days or weeks?

I guess Luke was on Dagobah for a few days ...
a few hours appear to be a little short for the amount of training Luke does.

Which would be impossible since Han and co. are probably hiding just a couple of hours. Or maybe a few hours is 1 day on Dagobah?

The arguement is not moot at all. Sure on Blu-Ray the arguement may be moot but for a post-Blu-Ray technology down the road Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith can't take advantage while earlier Star Wars movies can. So these Blu-Rays will truely be the highest resolution versions of the movies that can ever be released. I guess thats more reason to buy the Blu-Rays. Therefore when 4k televisions arrive the original trilogy will be able to hold more detail then the digitally shot newer movies. At the same time the digitally shot movies will have no distracting film grain. Its a trade off for sure.

Luckily digital cameras have advanced leaps and bounds since Attack of the Clones came out. Peter Jackson is shooting The Hobbit in Red Epic cameras that capture 3D digital video in 5k resolution. Personally Id love it if every movie made from now on was shot with such cameras.

Some of us, me included, are eagerly awaiting any official statement on the versions of the films featured on Blu-Ray. Donīt you think there wouldnīt be any leaked info by now if the movies would have been enhanced to that extend we are hoping for? After all, back in 2004 there have been speculations about Ian McDiarmid portraying the Emperor in TESB in April...

It's always a problem when you have two stories running side by side that you assume they take the same amount of time. Han, Leia and Co. might haves spent the night or day on Bespin before going to see Vader.

I've always thought Luke's Dagobah training was pretty intense though.

Update: While I was typing we've moved on. The 16th a Friday some guys weekends are now set.... Probably the 19th for the UK.

This time it is different Lucasfilm is personally overseeing these conversions so that is why everything is hush hush when Lucas says it is okay to talk then and only then it is ok to talk.

Finally we have an official release date for the star wars saga on blu-ray. Now all we are waiting for is the blu-ray content announcement.

But those were just speculations and not official confirmations. And that was a logical speculation in terms of making the films more consistent.

Heck, I had assumed on my own (though I'm sure I'm not the only one), with no specific information to back it up that the CGI on Jabba in ANH would be redone for the DVD because of how bad the 1997 version looked in general and especially compared to his appearance in TPM.

Most things were logical guesses at that point in time, and not anything concrete.

Official confirmations on what changes were made really didn't start coming out until some people got review copies of the DVDs in-hand.

And as I've said before, I doubt we are going to see too much in the way of bigger changes like Ian McDiarmid in ESB or Hayden in ROTJ in this go-around since they were pretty much taken care of in 2004. It will probably be more tweaking those special effects that still stick out (like the lightsabers), and things of that nature, and hopefully fixing some technical errors. Basically doing a nice, good, polished job on what they were trying to do in 2004 (which by moat accounts on the matter was relatively rushed). Maybe there will be an extra surprise or two in the mix (for better or for worse depending on what the changes are and what each person's perspective is on said change), but I'm not counting on anything really drastic.

I don't understand why so many people seem to think/assume that if changes were being made we would/should already know about them and that they would be highly publicized. The changes were done fairly silently in 2004. None of the promotion or advertising for them really mentioned it (in fact, it seemed to completely avoid the issue when and where possible), and it was mostly through reviews that this info came to light.
