I also love lightsabers, but the first fight ever featuring them just felt timid and uninspired.

I'm still looking forward to the other two films. I've heard EST is the best of the trilogy so hopefully it will fulfill my expectations.
I think this is the problem with watching the PT first. The technology/weapons are more advanced - battle droids, dual light sabres, Darth Maul fighting two guys at once doing back flips. Then you watch ANH and it's a little slower, obviously the light sabre fight is very slow including slo mo Obi Wan spin and no acrobatics. Personally ANH is my favourite of the movies - yes even moreso than ESB which is a close second - but it's because we are introduced to the world of Star Wars and meet all the characters and learn about the force and lightsabres, etc. Watching the PT first would undoubtedly negatively affect viewing of Ep4 in my mind. It is meant to be seen first.

I don't know. I have heard people say that before, but I have watched Episode III and Episode IV back to back and I really like the shift in tone between the two films. Episode IV is like a breath of fresh air and has an innocence to it that is sorely needed after Episode III's dark and intense entry. I think people who are more fans of the action than the story are the ones who will be turned off watching Episode III and IV back to back. Then again, I was someone who liked the slower episodes in Lost as well, though many fans hated the shift in intensity between episode arcs. Maybe I am weird like that.

Chikin23, from the many experience buying from Amazon UK I've no problems at all. Mine usually arrives in 7-10 days with standard shipping. Even if there's any difficulty, their customer service is the best.
Thank you.

I can't believe it, but I disagree.

It's a new revelation to me, trust me, and it hurts LOL. But I was watching ANH the other day (thank goodness for HD DVR's) and I realized that even though it wasn't originally intended, and even though I am a SW purist at heart, if you are going to watch all six, the emotional payoffs in ANH are very interesting.

Take, for instance, the scenes between Vader and Leia. There are several times where it becomes much more dramatic in tone when you know that Vader is her father. There are a few other points as well - dramatically, it has a lot more emotional resonance not being a "random bad guy" and "random princess".

Like I said, I'm shocked I've come to this feeling - but nonetheless, I definitely thought this while watching the OT last week.

But surely these emotional resonances you're talking about would be there once you'd seen the whole of the OT anyway (we don't need the PT to know Vader is her father and that he's not a random bad guy, we just need to have seen ESB and ROTJ)? Just curious as I've seen neither the PT or OT in absolutely years (since I was a kid almost) and I'm debating which order to re-watch them in... probably OT first, but it's interesting hearing people promote the opposite.

I agree, but it's not that simple. A New Hope never felt worse to me because of PT, but it could be weird watching Darth Vader, one of the best characters ever, and then thinking about his past and how annoying little kid he was. That's just not right.

We know from Return of the Jedi that Leia is his daughter, so what it has to do with PT?

Really? I'm sure it's safe to assume he is refering to how the story unfolds, yes we learn that in ROTJ but, as far as story goes, that hasn't happened yet.

I'm going to break with form and watch the entire saga in numerical order. If and when GL releases the OUT on blu, I'll go with a classic trilogy marathon followed by the prequels. Then I'll probably try IV, V, I, II, III, VI.

The new Star Wras Insider should be out now... does anyone know if there are further infos on the blurays? ...a breakdown of discs seven and eight maybe?
Or more importantly, any news on the versions of the films (cgi Yoda or no cgi Yoda) featured on blu-ray?

For those wondering in which order the movies are intended to be watched... the so called Episode number gives you a hint. you just have to bring the episode numbers in the correct order and the puzzle is solved. But beware the numbers are in roman letters. You have to translate them first.

For those too impatient, I did it for you:
[Show spoiler]1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Watching them in numerical order is impossible for me to do. They look, feel, smell and taste nothing alike...and as such should be kept far apart from each other.

I prefer watching the films in numerical order. We start with the rise and fall of Anakin and conclude with the rise and, well, rise of Luke I like to see the story unfold chronologically, the way Monsieur Lucas intended.

Of course! You can activate scene shuffle on your player in every movie you watch for all I care. Or you could try to respect the filmmaker for a change... Itīs up to you.

That's the stupidest order ever! That's the kind of combination an idiot would have on his luggage!

Say, do Threepio's scenes also become more dramatic knowing that Vader is his father? I don't know how anyone can take those retarded prequels seriously.

Who gives a shot what order you watch them? Why does it matter to anyone else how you watch them! This thread gets more ridiculous every day
