I've decided to skip the original VHS & Beta releases, as I'm trying to keep it cheap, as in less than $1 per cassette :P Definitely not into spending over $100 for a tape, even if it is the Rental Only version.

I did manage to find the Widescreen edition of Phantom Menace on VHS, comes in a nice box (about the size of a box of golf balls) with an art book excerpt and 5 frames of 35mm film that was apparently used in a theatre during TPM's theatrical run. TBH I'm more in it for the packaging than the actual cassettes. Although I would like to compare the 1993 Laserdiscs to the 2006 Bonus DVDs...

I forgot about Phantom Menace, yeah I have that VHS set, and a Japanese import Laserdisc (it never came out on LD in the US).

The Definitive Collection laserdiscs had tons and tons of extras that aren't on any other version (including dvds). I'm betting most of it wont be on blu, either

The Beta tape I got for $1 sometime in the 90's. I worked at Suncoast, and we got in boxes and boxes of this random assortment of vhs tapes they were clearing out of some warehouse I guess. Among these were about 5 Beta tapes, and one was SW. I thought, I don't have a player, but for $1? Why not! Yet another version for my collection! It's still sealed, too!

As shown in the pic it seems like they didn't fix the lightsaber errors in the original trilogy...I hope this is just an old footage used, if not...

Well, Fox are starting to use the Warners method of one disc for all, and not just for small-scale releases e.g. the UK Alien discs were the exact same ones as the US version.

I know that we're dealing with LFL and not Fox directly, but Fox are still distributing it and taking their cut so they must have some say on those sorts of issues. And I'd wager that the idea of authoring one disc for all territories, thus saving money, will greatly appeal to LFL.

I'd be pretty confident that they will be Region free. If a film is distributed by the same company in multiple regions it makes sense.

The iOS app is exciting!!

I was just watching some of the LaserDisc (1993 Definitive edition) extras the other day. They're pretty cool, especially considering I've never heard or seen them before. There are a lot of artwork slideshows, but they're still very cool. I converted them to DVD since I know my LD discs and player probably won't work as flawlessly forever. But at least they're porting over the Making of LaserDiscs, that's really great.

It's silly that we have to wait this long to get some information on the Blu-Ray set. But I can't wait for this app, I'm going to download it ASAP tomorrow! I hope that when the set comes out they'll have a companion iOS app like Disney does with their films. I think that's such a nice extra to have, it really gives you more bang for your buck.

I like the app too but let's not go crazy about those 3 screen shots from the app it won't represent what the blu-rays will look like as far as picture and sound. It's just a app after all.
