Don't want to stray too long off topic here, but I'll make one point.

Indiana Jones and the something of something is fine. Indiana Jones and the something of the something something is a bit too wordy, IMO. That's why I also didn't like the title Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

But we agree on one thing-- I don't see what the fuss is either. To me it's an extremely minor complaint-- almost not even really a complaint at all. And like I said, the title wasn't even really changed anyway-- it was on the packaging but the in-film title was left the way it was. So no harm done.

That review makes it a tad bit easier for me. I'll be only purchasing the 'original' trilogy.

TPM is clearly not as bad as Predator (which IMO you could figure out from the rips' captures, regardless of whether the Blu-ray is much better).

The rest is just a matter of opinion and/or semantics; to some people, any noticeable DNR is a "DNR mess". There's certainly enough DNR to be noticeable, judging by the review. Whether this makes the image good but disappointing, vs. bad or catastrophic will depend on who's watching.

LOL
Someone should print this and stick it on the front door of George Lucas...

That's pathetic! I personally prefer the new E.T. version. It's a pity that it will be not included on the Bluray. Spielberg just grovels to the fans.

That's not for me, is it? I never complained about your review. I asked you questions about audio and easter eggs and you answered them all for me. I'm probably just misunderstanding your post.

With regards Easter eggs, are they even possible in the BD-Java format? The menus are the best on Blu I have seen, but they aren't great when compared with the best of DVD. Also, there are horrendous and jarring loading times on the special features discs because of the menu structure. I think Blu ray has definitely taken a step backwards when it comes to menus.
I wish they had carried over trailers and had them in HD too. I'm really surprised those got left off.

During the Lucasfilm presentation from a few weeks ago, their marketing rep claimed there would be easter eggs scattered throughout the set. So far, no one with the set in hand has mentioned finding any.

The spoofs doc(and the 501st doc, imo) was the kind of thing that should have been a store exclusive or separate release, in my opinion. It's in HD and just over 90 minutes long. That's a lot of disc space being used up for something like that. In my opinion, they could have used that space to give us "From Star Wars to Jedi" and the three pieces of laserdisc special features that have never made it to DVD/BD, and "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed" in SD may have fit as well. Throw on that 10th disc of the DVD special features I mentioned in my other post, and this set would have been worth the price in special features alone, in my opinion.

So let me get this straight-- you are pissed off that the version of the movie you prefer is not coming to Blu-Ray.

I'm just making sure that is clear for the record.

Bit strawman there bud, taken completely out of context. I was being attacked consistently over the weekend for my opinion on TPM not being a DNR mess, but admittedly soft. The attackers, based on the rips and not the actual product which I had, were taking me apart with childish insults (apologist being the main one when I am not a Star Wars fanatic and just view them as good fun films) because it was a DNR mess. It isn't.

Yes, you were right all along, because The Phantom Menace got 4/5 for PQ in the blu-ray.com review just like you predicted and AOTC got 4.5 for PQ just like you predicted... right...

I have now checked out AOTC and ROTS and I would give the former 3/5 for PQ (due to the substancial amount of DNR, though nowhere near as much as TPM) and ROTS a 4/4.5 out of 5 for PQ, dependant on whether you don't mind that 'digital' look, because that transfer really is very impressive for having been shot on a digital camera. (that said, there are still moments when it looks a little soft and I still think it could have looked even better if it'd been shot on film IMHO)

For somebody that's more tolerant of DNR than I am, I pretty much agree with Casey's assessment of the PQ on the Prequel Trilogy.

I personally thing he's been a little to generous giving the original trilogy all 4.5/5 for PQ as he has but its probably understandable that he's more bowled over by the PQ if he's only see the dvd or sky hd broadcast. The german hdtv stream I've had for over two years is very similar in PQ so I was expecting a little more from the blu-rays, hence the 4/5 that I gave them. I also strongly believe the transfers would look much better if they had been rescanned with modern equipment like with the FOTR EE blu-ray transfer, rather than using the old 2004 Lowry masters that the dvds are based off.

No mention in his review of the blue tint added to the OT for the DVDs and Blu-ray as well and he suggests that the lightsabers don't change colour when they clearly do in certain scenes. Luke's green/white/blue lightsaber when he's training on the Millenium Falcon is one scene that immediately comes to mind, as is Vader's orange lightsaber during the lightsaber fight in the Carbon Freeze chamber in Empire Strikes Back, when luke has rolled down the stairs and Vader jumps down after him. If these issues don't bother him (or perhaps he didn't notice them), I can understand why Casey would rate the OT 4.5/5 for PQ.

I must have different versions than the BR.com reviewer, because my OT set has oversaturated & inconsistent colour, black crush, frozen Lowry grain and regular occurances of EE. They're not complete and utter train wrecks, but they could and should look so much better.

And why does Casey keep calling Episode II 'The Clone Wars'? Anyone would think he's a casual fan who's bowled over by the PQ and AQ because he doesn't know any better...

I know, perhaps I didn't make myself clear. The shots that have been changed in the actual film are not changed in the special features clips in a lot of instances, although the Artoo CGI rock is still in there.

Looking for a bit of screencap help. I've searched this thread, and the internet as a whole but haven't found what I'm seeking. I would kindly request anyone with the capacity and the kindness to assist me with 5 his-res 1080p screen shots. I am making custom Blu-ray covers for the Saga where these images will be used. I am requesting the following,

The Phantom Menace
approx: 1:20:29
Shot of the Queen's ship flying toward Coruscant

Attack of the Clones
approx: 1:06:28
Slave 1 arriving over Geonosis

Revenge of the Sith
approx: 1:32:35
Anakin's starfighter arriving at Mustafar

A New Hope
approx: 0:02:18
Space battle over Tatooine

The Empire Strikes Back
approx: 0:02:26
Probe fly-over Hoth

Big thanks to anyone who can help!

No, The Phantom Menace is nothing like Predator from a DNR stand-point. Grain is still there, but its that fine that the only way you can see it is to literally crouch right next to the TV. The detail is still marvellous.

I haven't seen any of the problems you suggest - these a massive leap over the DVD's. Check your TV settings.

No, I'm not pissed... I'm disappointed that Spielberg doesn't include the New Updatedersion. That means he is capricious - unlike Lucas who doesn't cave in and steps back to grovel to the fans!

Wow, how can a person be wrong on so many levels? You prefer the awful changes to E.T., are in favor of Lucas' non-stop revisionism, and think the prequels actually have merit. We should just give you a customized talking flashlight that alternates between Jar-Jar phrases and Darth Vader's new "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" when you turn it on, just to commemorate with a single item how WRONG you are.
