Are you kidding me George? What's the point?

Wow a lot of people voted no to Star Wars on blu. Interesting.
It doesn't even sound like JEJ.

The US set is sleek and spare -- which obviously means Lucas had no part in the design of the box/discs.

Having watched all six films over the last 2 days I was completely stunned at how low Casey rated the PQ for AOTC .

Personally I would rate the PQ for AOTC 4.5 and 3.5 / 4.0 for the OT films.

And I am more than excited about the sound. The only negative I have heard is that Vaders entrance music is dampened in ANH.

I can't wait for friday now even more than ever! As always, thanks again for the informative and well written review(s).
So do I about being disappointed so what I'm planning on doing is buying the whole set, the prequels, and renting the early movies. If I can live with the earlier ones after viewing my rentals, I return the prequels and keep the whole set.

5.0 is great for AQ no doubt BUT I'm not in the position right now to enjoy that and since half of the BD HT experience is audio the PQ really needs to come through for me.

First of all, there's just a ridiculous amount of Star Wars-related content available out there. It's wholly unrealistic to include everything in a single release. I think we all agree on that much, at least. Realistically speaking, there has to be a limit set on exactly how many minutes worth of special features are to be included.

Once they've set that limit, they ask themselves a question: Do they split their allocated space between old and new stuff? Or do they fill it only with unreleased stuff, and hope the buyers will have held on to their DVDs? I'm pretty sure 99.999% of rational people will opt for the latter. Especially since most of us already own the DVDs anyway.
At least specifically in regards to the OT, it's not like there was a ton of extras on the previous DVD set. It was a single disc, the biggest part of which was a single documentary.

They easily could have taken the extras from that OT DVD disc, the extras from the prequel bonus discs, and anything from the previous laserdisc releases that aren't already on one of the existing bonus discs, and put it on one or two additional Blu-Ray bonus discs. If it means some of the content being in SD, fine, but it still could have been included.

Now, I'm not really "angry" per say over the fact that it didn't happen. I can live with that. But I'm not going to sit here and praise the lack of it as being a good thing like Beast seems to be doing. I'm not looking for a "dark lining on a silver cloud", as you put it... I'm just criticizing what to me seems to be Beast praising what is esentially a half silver / half dark cloud as somehow being better than a fully silver cloud (one that would hypathetically include all of the new content on this release and all content from previous laser disc and DVD releases).

And before someone makes the inevitable statement, don't give my any B.S. about how much more the set would "have to" cost if another disc or two of bonus features were included. Disc replication is relatively cheap. Why do you think we now get all of these "combo packs" these days that in many cases can be anywhere from 3 to 5 discs for not much more than what we were paying for a single disc Blu-Ray movie not too long ago?

For them to just take previous existing extras and "port" them over and put them on another disc or two wouldn't add some tremendous amount of cost on the production of this set.

With this being the first time that all 6 movies have been sold together in a set, on the highest quality format ever available, this really should have been the ultra-ultimate Star Wars experience, jam-packed with as many extras as possible, and with the treatment of the films being absolutely top-notch (i.e. NOT just reusing the problematic 2004 transfers for the OT).

Now, yes, since many people, myself included, already own the DVDs, I can see where if being forced to choose between one or the other, new features would be preferable to rehashed features. But the point is that it's a choice that simply shouldn't have to be made. And anyone who never bought the DVDs would now have access to those features.

I always wanted the old Star Wars Definitive LaserDisc set. I had the bright idea of buying two of them.

For Those who think that 79.99 / 89.99 is TOO much to pay for these films Keep in mind the original Retail Price of this set back in 1993! Was $249.99 and I paid I think $99.99 for the Special Edition LD Box Set when it was released.

I just bought that set brand new from a local shop today. Absolutely beautiful and not bad for $30

It's not my fault I'm a little late to the party. Also, I saw the fake one in this thread and thought it was just a joke.

Why is it inherently biased if he liked the OT more than the PT?

In the early 1950's, color televisions had a 12" screen and cost $1000.
