WOW Awesome FIND! I saw a set that was dibanded a year or two ago .. it was just the sleeves of each film at a used CD shop... no outer box etc.

I understand it weighs a lot... a shipping nightmare for some to be sure.

Most people do.
You're biased if you like ANY trilogy more than the other. I found it also unappropriate to use up space in the review to once again pick on the prequels, the changes and Lucas... He shold have concentrated on the technical aspects.

It's good to be able to see what the artwork looks like. Yeah, I think I like the US set much more than the UK one (personal taste), even though I suspect just about every edge of every page and disc envelope would suffer wear and tear and start looking fairly tatty in fairly short order.

Next question: do I really want to spring the extra dosh for the "Complete (Two-Thirds of the) Saga", when I'll probably never watch the extras discs anyway? Seems wasteful, in all sorts of directions. (I've got the four-DVD boxed sets of each of the LotR flicks, and I've never even taken one of those six "extras" discs out of their tray.)

Oh well. Decisions, decisions ...

And that was for 3 movies, not 6 (so the 29.99 for the OT at TRU is pretty cheap).

It's quite appropriate. The changes to the movies have a lot to do with whether this set is worth buying or not, and not everyone's going to peruse this endless thread to find that stuff out.

Every single official blu-ray review on this site includes a review of the films themselves. So according to you, because Casey finds the PT a disappointment, there should have been no review of the films at all?

More Clone Wars cartoons. 3D editions (with additional effects changes).

Beyond that... I dunno. The much-promised live action TV show seems dead in the water at this point. I've lost track of the number of times we've been told that they're almost ready to start.

Lucas has a habit of overpromising... talking about hundreds of hours of programming, one show that will split into four sub-shows, etc.

Meanwhile, they can't even get the damn thing off the ground, 6 years after announcing it.

The problem with the live action TV series is the fact that Lucas is waiting for technology to become cheaper. He wants this TV series to be the same quality as the 6 movies, SFX and everything. To do that much in a TV series is considered crazy now and would be the biggest budget for a TV series probably...ever.

Once he knows that he can make the TV series with a good, low budget..then he'll start. They already have many episodes written, from my understanding.

It's called a preference. Bias would imply that he somehow had it out for the PT, but he was quite objective in his analysis of it and explains what he likes and doesn't like very reasonably. He's obviously seen both of them and compared them. I like Fight Club more than Transformers, but it doesn't make me "biased", it just means I like it more.

Also:

It's Casey's review, it's his choice what he writes about. This review is "his vision", and there's nothing you can do about it except not read it. He owns the review, he doesn't owe "the fans" anything.

Sound familiar? Funny how it doesn't seem to work both ways.

He said more than enough about the technical aspects, and since he writes reviews including "the movie itself" there is no reason he shouldn't discuss changes to the OT, preferences between them, etc.

If you don't want to hear about his opinion of the movies, skip the movie review and just read the technical aspects. Simple as that.

Agreed. I hate plastic trays like on the UK set. And I haven't had any trouble with my Aliens Boxset.

I LOVE MY ALIEN ANTHOLOGY!

Sorry, just thought I'd get that out there. The excitement for this release is palpable. As in, it's all I can talk about right now.

You got some warped logic going on "Transformers" and "Fight Club" aren't two chapters in the same saga - as far as I know...

Of all the brilliant artwork with Star Wars, they choose that one for a PS3 skin?!

Watching Episode 1 right now on BD and the audio is amazing. I figured I'll rent Episode 1-3 and purchase Episode 4-6. For those wondering my BBV has these out already that's how I'm watching them early.Plus on my rental receipt I got a Free Thor rental coupon good until 11/13, so if anyone else rents this from Blockbuster check your receipt.
The PQ is good not mind blowing for Episode 1 just like the reviewer stated. But tremendously improved upon from the dvd editions obviously. The Picture has most definitely been scrubbed.
The opening segment on Naboo with the first appearance of Jar-Jar will have audio nuts going crazy. Animals, ships all kinds of chaos just zips around the sound field. Lightsabers have never sounded better and when ever the force is used you get this nice low rumbling LFE.
Although not a huge fan of Episode 1-3 I'm sure the audio will have me enjoying it a bit more than in the past.
The Pod Race is amazing, worth watching just for that sequence alone.

I managed to get ahold of the set a little early. I watched A New Hope last night. I don't know if this has been reported already, but...

Just before Ben first appears, when R2 is hiding from the sand people... R2 is now partially hidden by a rock. In the close-ups of R2, this rock is out of focus in the foreground. I guess George thought the sand people would probably notice R2 otherwise?

Looked super fake to me.

Other than that, looks like the same crappy color job done for the 2004 DVD. Except Luke no longer has a green lightsaber in that one shot.

Great review, unlike the reviewer though I do want pristine transfers for Episode 1 and 2 and I am sorta disappointed to hear the video quality was rated so low. I don't take the attitude some people do that they don't like the first two episodes so they don't care, I expected a lot better out of Lucasfilm for these two movies coming out on blu and if they re-release a saga box set I hope they improve on them. That being said I will more than gladly purchase this box set first thing Friday morning!
