Wait until you see it in action! Yes it has the DNR etc, but it isn't as bad as a lot of people say, half the time they just repeat it from seeing it posted by another person without having seen the Blu-ray itself. I was impressed with it, really was better than I expected!

I don't know what he's thinking, but that looks like a Beavis and Butthead expression on his face.

Basically, damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Not at all damned if you do, damned if you don't. He gave two discs(7,8) of all new HD bonus features and 1 disc(9) of new/old bonus features. The features missing could have been completely included with one additional BD-50. Nothing new would have needed to be left off and we would have received more in addition to what we did get. No one in their right mind would have complained that we got too much. They really had no good reason for only giving us nine discs when a tenth would have brought over everything previously released.

While I agree that they should have used "some" real armor, I don't think that the pixelation is from the computer that generated the armor. Don't you think it would be from a problem with the transfer?

Where did you see the problem? What movie?

I'm with you, I would rather have the separate releases, but I HAVE to have the bonus features!

But I wonder, would Anakins turn to the dark side be more shocking and horrible if you didn't know it was coming (though it's certainly hinted at).

I don't know.

The models are fine. The edges of the armor are razor sharp. It's the actual textures themselves that are slightly pixelated.

All of the dirt, wear and scratches on the clones' armour in Ep. 2 have slightly jagged edges to them.

Having quite a bit of experience with 3D modeling and animation, perhaps it stands out more to me than others.

There's really nothing that can be done about it without re-rendering all of the models and adding them to the HD master all over again...

Toy Story 1 (and 2 to some extent) suffered from the same problems, but I was able to overlook it as the movie is around 16 years old.

I hope so but it's hard to say. My gut tells me they'll come out eventually. I don't know if it will be a full restoration or just a hybrid version of the existing transfers with the cut/changed scenes put back in but combined with the recomped effects and minute changes unnoticed by most. I hope it's the former but either way, I certainly hope they at least go back to the original color timing/contrast of the theatrical versions.

Here's what George Lucas had to say about it last fall:

“We’ve been working on them(new BD set) for quite a while,” Mr. Lucas said, “but still, there are pipelines. Unfortunately, the recent releases get priority over what we call the classic versions of things.”

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ray-next-year/

Take that statement as you will. I take it as hope. Others may take it as nothing more than lip service that Lucas gave a reporter.

Okay, so I'm confused and perhaps this has been addressed already but here is a review of the original trilogy from Amazon:
"This is just an alert since there seems to be some confusion about a trilogy release with the original unaltered versions along with the special editions vs a trilogy set that only contains the special editions and no copies of the original unaltered versions.

The reviews for both sets are merged together... that is why you are seeing people claim that it has the original unaltered versions, and people complaining they do not. THIS set that I specifically clicked on to make this comment on is on the 2004 release which DOES NOT CONTAIN THE ORIGINAL UNALTERED VERSIONS. The box image is silver and has Darth Vader's mask on the box. This set ONLY contains the SE along with a 4th bonus disc of making of features and trailers and a sneak peak at episode III. If you want the trilogy set that contains both the SE and the unaltered versions but no bonus features, make sure when purchasing from Amazon, that the picture is a picture of Darth Vader and Luke clashing with light sabers and the box has a lot of blue coloring. It also says IV V VI along the bottom. Scroll down to DVD info and it should say release date: 2008. THAT is the version you are looking for.

If you place an order on the Trilogy with the Silver box with Darth Vaders mask on it, you are going to get the 2004 release of the trilogy and that's probably not the one you want... This review is going to appear on both sets though... So make sure before you buy, that you are on the correct trilogy page. Check the picture. Check the release date."
So is this correct or what? The image for the blu-ray being advertised on Amazon is blue in coloring but doesn't have an image of Vader and Luke fighting with light sabers (i've posted a screen shot) and there is no silver colored box with Vader on it for sale on Amazon that I've seen. I just want to buy the original films but not sure what's going on now after reading this strange review. thanks for the help.

Once he knows that he can make the TV series with a good, low budget..then he'll start. They already have many episodes written, from my understanding.
There is over 50 hours worth written. And a tv movie. They are playing with shooting parts on DSLR ect. Anything to cut costs and make this type of film quality tv, feasible. They used DSLRs on some cockpit shots on Red Tails. So it's getting there, slowly but surely.

Anybody having any viewing parties? I know I'm thinking about it but am reluctant to sacrifice my NFL Sunday.

Check the link in my sig and have a look at the different DVD releases.

That should help you narrow it down to which DVD versions you're looking for.

No. Noooooooooo

Paramount completely surprised me when the Star Trek: TOS blu's included both the original and remastered versions. Sadly, I don't see George being so logical.

Star Wars
Empire
Phantom
Clones
Sith
Jedi

After learning that Darth is Luke's father, you go back and watch his history before finishing with Jedi.

and first time viewers will make the connection when they see Shaw as a force ghost?

He looks nothing like he did in the makeup in the Vader suit...

There are only three major characters whom Luke has had any contact with that wind up dead...

Yoda, Ben and Vader. You recognize Yoda, you recognize Ben... hmm... wonder who the third one is

How was episode III? Any better?

I personally all ways felt that the armor looked to small to fit a real person in them. So they looked fake to me the entire time. Look at Commander Cody in Ep III. He couldn't weigh over 135lbs to fit in that suit.

Episode III looked fine.

You could even notice it with Yoda in Ep. 2

In TPM, the textures didn't have anywhere near as much pixilation as Episode II, but I noticed in some of the TPM screenshots that some materials (Jar Jar's vest in some shots) are impossibly thin (it has no thickness whatsoever). Same thing with the edges of the droids' heads.

But that's late 90's computer modeling... they did the best with the tech that was around (working with time constraints of course)
