HDi is a fancy word for XML and Javascript. You can think of HDi's basic structure as a simple web page. Not the content, just the structure.

BD-J (Blu-ray Disc Java) is a full programming environment. You can theoretically create a BD-J application to emulate HDi. BD-J offers a much more flexible environment for UI and menu development.

In conclusion, BD-J kicks the crap out of HDi. We have only seen a few variations of what it has the potential to do.
