George Lucas was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. He ceased to be a filmmaker and became a marketing machine. When that happened, the good films that were the Star Wars Trilogy were destroyed.
I will say while I liked most of the changes so far, I hated the Obi-Wan bellow and the Vader NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, thought they both detracted from the quality of their respective films. Not true dealbreakers, just stuff I wish Lucas hadn't done.

Oh yeah, because crappy VHS tape and ancient laserdisc masters are perfectly adequate for viewing 3 of the most historically important movies of all time in this day and age.

In YOUR opinion they're minor. And I'm just curious, but what kind of changes would have to be instated in order for them to become different movies in your mind?

I'll admit, sometimes the vitriol becomes a little to extreme against him, but that still doesn't mean he's as innocent as a new born baby or that he hasn't done anything worthy of harsh criticism. When people make the kind of bad decisions he's made throughout the course of his career, they should be challenged and called out on it.

Yes, if he released the UOT the criticism regarding him not releasing the UOT would go away.

Why should the other criticism suddenly vanish? How is it the critics or viewers in general are to blame for him making poor movies of late? Tell you what - if he once again starts making high quality films then yes, he would receive far more acclaim than critique. The same holds true for any director. Stomping his foot and taking his ball and going home comes off poorly. It's not our fault so many of his newer films suck and jar Jar was awful, sorry.

And why anyone bothers even engaging in a debate with Beast at this point boggles the mind. Nothing against him personally but he literally says the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. I mean, he must have about 20,000 posts in this thread at this point (making no more than 4 different points.)

Precisely, that's a terrible analogy and a stretch of major proportions. If they had CG'ed Catman Scruthers with an axe who fought Nicholson before he died (ax fight!), he might have a point. Or, if they CG'ed Tony the imaginary friend several years later standing there when Danny talks to him. That's about the level of what we're talking about, not dropping two minutes at the end. If Lucas had dropped the medal ceremony THAT would be analogous.

Indiana Jones - 4/5
Indiana Jones 2 - 3.5/5
Indiana Jones 3 - 4.5/5
Indiana Jones 4 - 1/5
Yes I thought it was complete trash with no redemptive qualities whatsoever, truly a film concept that should've been aborted before it ever began being committed to film.
ANH - 4.5/5
TESB - 5/5
RoTJ - 4/5
TPM - 3.5/5
AoTC - 3/5
RoTS - 4.5/5
That all said, I actually prefer the PT to the OT for reasons I've probably stated many times over.

He would've had to of dropped it literally less than 100 hours after it first started screening theatrically, too (not 2 decades later.) Very few people saw the extra 5 minutes of the Shining, Kubrick had it pulled less than 3 says after the film's earliest opening and the version we have today is the version the vast, vast majority saw theatrically.

Just finished watching AOTC on Blu-ray! Holy moly!
This movie is mind-blowingly awesome!

My suggestion: Try cranking up the volume all the way to 11!!!
This movie sounds beyond awesome!
I think my apartment building is now a few floors shorter.

This time I paid particular attention to the aged universe, and it looks really good. There are tons of scratches, stains, etc. everywhere.

I think the VFX are still incredible! 4,5/5

Watto, Poggle the Lesser, all the arena beasts are fanastic.

Movie: 5/5
PQ: 4,5/5
SQ: 10/5

Star Wars rules forever!!! Live is good when you can enjoy great things!

Thank you George Lucas!

[Show spoiler]PS: George, never mind the im_eci_es, who don't have enough brain cells to comprehend your movies. They can't help it. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

This thread has done more than prove that he's more than justified being fed up with the so-called fans who can't seem to get over it.
Oh, by the way Beast, I guess I missed this when I first replied, but I love how you capitalized creator.

George isn't quitting anything. It's a subtle tactic to motivate people to see TPM 3D in theaters and give him more money so that he can continue to milk a 35 year old cash cow for which he hasn't had any original ideas in a long, long time.

Lucas blames everyone because he lacks self-awareness and humility.

He has no interest in "small" movies because they won't net him the kind of cash that Star Wars does. Plus, the SW empire exists in various formats (tv, games, books, etc.) that it's silly to suggest that "retiring" somehow means he still won't make a ridiculous amount of money.

Ha.

You're not an investor. You didn't finance the movies. You are a fan.

Any tickets or merchandise you bought, bought you entertainment and merchandise. Not stock in Lucasfilm or Star Wars.

I'm not the one doing that. It's you people who have been crying about the changes to Star Wars since '97. Get over it.

So why do you feel the insane need to "poke the beast" constantly? If people are upset, let them be upset.

Do you think that by calling people names and belittling them that everyone will suddenly go away? You're as much to blame as the ones you detest.

This is odd.

For years we've been hearing that internet rants were pointless because nobody who matters listens to them anyway.

Is that no longer the conventional wisdom?

The Clone Wars (current tv show) has some great episodes. The Mortis trilogy of Season 3 is easily the original idea you're looking for.

A ticket purchased for TPM (in 2D or 3D) certainly doesn't buy entertainment.

I felt the same way for a few years after I watched TPM. I see it differently now through my kids' eyes, and I actually think it's the best of the prequels.

Just saying -- maybe your opinion will change over time. Maybe not.

When movies like "People vs. George Lucas" are coming out it's hard to ignore.

Personally, if people wished me dead because "then maybe we'd get the originals" of MY work I'd be pretty pissed off.

I'd have to disagree, while TPM is possibly the worst film in the PT, it still entertained me from start to finish, especially so in 1999, when it was the first SW film I saw as an adult in theatres. Was a solid set-up film for the two darker films that followed, still wish they had started the PT off with Anakin being more than 8 years old, had a bit too much of a kiddie feel to it(TPM).
