Something for GL to keep in mind for his next go around with changes.
In AOTC when Obi-Wan and Anakin are in the hangar before the fight with Dooku, Obi-Wan kinda shouts "No Anakin Nooo" as Anakin goes after Dooku...

That's correct. It's probably the smallest "NO!" of the bunch, just a quick burst, but he yells it.

I got it!

Maybe in a future re-release GL could change it so that when Yoda saves Anakin & Obi-Wan from Doku crushing them we hear Yoda yell "nooooo!"

There's also Qui-Gon's "Noooooooo" when Anakin slaughters the Tusken Raiders in AotCs.

Do a search for "Rister viewing order"...I've been talking about a 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6 "Godfather" viewing order since before the release of Revenge of the Sith.

I called it "Narrative Structure Order", which preserves the most surprises, and jumps back and forth in time. I can't say Mr. McWeeny ripped me off, only that he was an absolute prick as an employee at Dave's Video on Laurel Canyon, sneering at your purchasing choices and making ugly comments while you rented laserdiscs.
Whether he's a prick or not, I really enjoyed reading McWeeny's six articles documenting how he introduced his two young sons to Star Wars in that order. It worked really well. The articles are pretty well written, funny and surprisingly touching.

Which was the basis of my viewing order...how do you introduce someone to SW? You certainly DON'T start with episode 1...the only way it makes sense is 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. Of course, since Lucas largely disposed of the "Sith created Anakin" storyline, you really only need 4, 5, 3, 6.

It makes perfect sense starting with Episode 1 and ending with Episode 6.

In fact, a lot of the younger generation have seen it exactly that way. And they don't seem to have any problems.

Yes, but that's the younger generation Beast. My little guy's almost 3 and I'm going to probable introduce him to Star Wars with TOT first. Once he's old enough he can decide in which order, but I want to introduce him to how I watched them in the hopes that he'll appreciate how far effects have advanced.

I think that for a first time viewing it's best to go IV, V, VI, I, II, III and George Lucas prefered order of viewing be damn I feel it preserve the surprise and the viewing much better this way.

After that I guess watching it in order is the right way to go.

I've seen them all so many times it really doesn't matter which way I go, so I usually do 1-6. So glad I finally have these, even with all the changes that have been made to them.

Like myself when you have seen this movies 5 times a years for the past 25 years or so it does not matter how you watch them, you are right on that. But everytime I see or meet someone who as never seen them (it does happen) I prefer introducing them with the original first and after that the prequels

I'd actually go the other way with two options:

1. If you've never watched any Star Wars movie before or have no real knowledge of Star Wars (e.g. a teenager), then watching them in order from 1-6 is probably best, as it allows the characters to develop organically, and preserves some of the surprises until the latter half of the saga. For example, it's hard for some of us to imagine, but for a new viewer it can be quite an interesting journey to see Anakin Skywalker go through the entire cycle from good little munchkin to evil warlord, then revealed as the father of Luke, all the way to redemption and death. It also builds suspense in that the viewer may wonder if Luke (and the galaxy as a whole) share the same fate as Anakin, the answer to which is only revealed in the last half hour of the saga.

2. If you have any knowledge of Star Wars or have ever watched the original trilogy movies at any point in the past, it makes more sense to watch 4, 5, 6 (original trilogy) then 1, 2, 3 (prequels), or just stick to 4, 5, 6 and leave it at that. This basically gives you the meat of the saga, along with the nostalgia factor. The characters and settings are all established without requiring any information from 1, 2, 3. Then watching the prequels fills in the gaps by giving the backstory and fleshing out the characters - though obviously some people object to how these characters are fleshed out (e.g. Boba Fett), hence the 'delete prequel' option.

Then why is everyone gushing tears while reading about McWeeny showing his kids the films in the order I suggested almost a decade ago?

Seriously...google it. Rister Viewing Order. 451236 is almost a decade old, man. It's the only way to show these films to newcomers. It's why I came up with order in the first place, because a friend of mine was about to have his first child.

Not saying McWeeny ripped me off, but also not saying my order was a secret.

With respect, it is not the only way to show the film to newcomers, and it doesn't matter how old the suggestion is - doesn't make it any more or less valid than anything else.

I personally think 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6 is OK for people who already know the story, but it makes the saga a disappointment for newcomers. Viewing 4 and 5 before 1 gives away the whole Anakin/Vader/Luke's Father plotline before you even see Anakin as a child, and hence creates an anti-climax when watching 1, 2, 3. You don't see Anakin evolve, you already know his fate, which is a common problem with prequels anyway. You also know that Obi Wan and Yoda can't be killed in 1, 2 or 3, as well as the outcome of the Clone Wars. Then jumping from 3 to 6 at the end only gives an even more jarring change of pace.

I wish they would get rid of the matte lines from the sfx in Empire. Also, the strange variations in the size of the snow speeders in relation to the walkers is a bit distracting. Other than that, this film is glorious.

And aside from the odd revisions for blu ray, the original/revised ie lowry star wars looks great.
