http://www.costco.com/Common/Search.aspx?whse=BC&topnav=&search=blu-ray&N=0&Ntt=blu-ray&cm_re=1-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search It does not matter how many players are sold it’s the amount of discs that are sold. If these Toshiba players some day hit $50 price points some consumers will just buy it thinking it’s a DVD player and purchase standard DVD’s to play in it. As long as BLU-RAY camp continues to sale more movies compared to HD-DVD only discs (non combo discs) then BLU-RAY is winning the format war. |

I agree that seeing hddvd players at costco at those prices may alarm some in the BD camp ,but again keeping an eye on the software is important too ,I admit the BD titles haven`t been as strong as of late but i`m sure there is plenty in store and even with hd titles like children of men and smokin aces(coming out soon ) I still see more BD selling more and the number trends on all the sites (dvd empire and such) still show nominal jump in hd`s numbers, and BD prices on players are dropping as well .I`m betting hddvd will hit bottom 1st .
All things will be clear in time ,relax and enjoy the ride knowing BD is the right format. ![]() |

I think what he meant was, The BD camp can not rely simply on the ps3 to carry them to the finish.
The ps3 should only be the tip of the arrow. The arrow has struck, however you still have to walk up make sure it's dead and if it isn't, put em out of their misery then and there. |

My local costco has the same stack of players it did since they first put out the D2's. They also have a huge 62" 1080p Toshiba tv hooked up to the A2 playing a demo disc, ive never seen one person stop and watch it (i go to my costco very often, so literally, no one gives a crap).

When my Costco had their grand opening here in Columbus, Ohio they had titles for each disc format. Haven't seen any since.
However, when you walk in the door, there was a Pioneer or Panasonic Blu-Ray player hooked up to a XBR3 immediately in front of the entrance for a while. I have never seen an HD-setup their. The only HD setup I have seen at a walmart are the RCA HD-DVD players. Oh, and as far as I can tell, PS3's are still selling extremely well in this area. Especially at costco, even being bundled with Genji for 699. |

I just got back from my Saturday morning trip to Costco and there were none of these Toshiba players there.
Being a videophile/home theater enthusiast, I would never buy my electronics at Costco. Though they do sometimes carry some good items, it's usually older models or the cheap stuff. I think a lot of people who shop at Costco are looking for Cheap (with a capital "C"). I wouldn't be too concerned about these being in Costco. They're still priced too high for J6P and early-adopter types would not usually buy this type of item there. On the subject of sales volumes - the HD-DUD fanboys over at AVS are making April 15th their "big buy day" to try to boost their numbers on Amazon. I've got a bit of pre-ordering to do myself, I think I'll go to Amazon. ![]() |

I was at costco today, and on the way out they were handing out costco catologs. When I got it home, I opened to the electronics section, and there, no the left page at the bottom was an ad for the Toshiba HD DVD player. Also when I was at Costco, I noticed they had HD DVD movies to buy, BUT NO BLU RAY. Does this mean Costco has embraced HD DVD. If so, can this hurt blu-ray? Costco has a pretty serious impact on the market, so what are your guys opinions about how this will affect sales?

i AGREE I`D BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT INTERNET SALES THEN COSTCO,I KEEP AN EYE OUT EVERYWHERE I GO and my local best buy isn`t moving them either so i`m not too worried about it ,again its all about profit for costco and they aren`t moving much if any hddvd`s

You can get Blu-ray discs from Costco online.
www.costco.com They also sell the Philips BD player in the store (they did before carrying the Tosh BTW). HD DVDs literally just appeared in stores in the past couple weeks. I expect BD discs to be on shelves sooner than later. Especially when they realize those HD DVDs aren't moving. Last edited by PeterTHX; 05-12-2007 at 06:22 AM. |
