Lol, my sentiments exactly.

The fanfare is the least of my concerns; more like lens-fare.

Agreed and it would seem that would be the 'easiest' one to transfer since the original negative was essentially transformed into that version. The 2004 DVD changes as well as the Blu-ray additional changes were seemingly done from the 1080p master.

Was it the 1997 SE or the 2004 DVD that had Luke scream as he fell down the chute in Cloud City? I know they (thankfully!) took it out of the blu-ray but I couldn't believe that was added in at all because Luke jumped voluntarily; he wasn't thrown. Plus, I'm pretty sure it was the Emperor's scream from when Vader threw him in Jedi. I do love the new Wampa on Hoth though. And in ANH when the Falcon is taking off from Mos Eisley is pretty cool.

Jedi Rocks is awful on so many levels. I just don't understand why if they absolutely had to update that scene, that they couldn't just keep the original song and CGI Sy Snoodles so she had more movement than the puppet. No backup dancers, no terrible song. GL is like someone with Body Dysmorphic Disorder who keeps getting plastic surgery and thinks they still look ugly and need more.

If you own the movies already I would say that is more of a grey area, but the last thing I want to do is debate it.

The Ultimate Star Wars set should include all of the different versions of the OT (original, '97, '04, '11), prequels, and all of the special features available (including Empire of Dreams).

Feel free to add more

I knew it wouldn't be long before someone mentioned the scream. Yes, it's the Emperor's scream, added for the '97 SE (it also belongs to Mola Ram as he falls down the cliffside in Temple of Doom). It doesn't make a great deal of sense in the context of the film, but I actually got used to seeing the movie with it in, so I kinda miss it now.

The 1980 Original had no Luke/Palpatine Scream
The 1997 VHS Edition DID have it.
The 2000 VHS Edition Did NOT.
The 2004 DVD Did NOT.
The 2011 Blu-Ray Did NOT. But it DOES have Vader yell at the end of Jedi...

This is honestly the first time I've ever heard of this. What's the story behind this?

If Disney/FOX did release everything in one massive box set then we would ***** about the packaging.

There was a 2000 re-release of the SEs on FS/WS VHS, FS VCD (Malaysia) and WS LD (Japan). It came with a ten minute sneak peak of Episode II (focusing on recreation of Skywalker home on Tattooine). I owned the middle two (WS VHS and FS VCD), they were the 1997 SEs, no changes.

This should become the new Wilhelm scream.

I was aware of a re-release around that time, but didn't know that there had been more changes done to the films. I thought they were just the exact same as the 1997 versions. I didn't bother buying them since I already had the '97 release in Widescreen.

Are there details somewhere of what was changed for that version?

They keep a decent list on Wikipedia, way back to the 1981 changes (which were actually pretty significant, not just the opening crawl). A lot of it is audio changes - I've seen better lists than this but off the top of my head I can't recall where.

In fact, I'm pretty sure there were different changes as far back as the various VHS releases - again, a lot having to do with sound as they remixed it so many times. Sometimes changes were reverted, sometimes added, sometimes timing. He didn't get heavy into visual changes until the SE's, but when you look at the lists it's pretty incredible how much was changed over the years.

And again, that link lists no changes with the 2000 releases. I watched those quite a bit and recall no differences between them and what I saw in theaters in 1997.

It came out in 2000. Just after the Phantom Menace on VHS ( I believe)
and had a few new edits.
It was the set that started the Matching/Alternating Spines for TPM, AotC, ANH, TESB, RofJ... RotS got left out because the USA never got a VHS of that film.
Black/White/Black/White or the opposite way, I can't check my set as it is in Storage.

The only changes I remember from this set were:
Jedi - The first time the Jedi Temple was seen in Jedi.
Empire - Removed Luke's '97 Edition Yell.

Also, it was again in a SlipBox, but had a Clear Plastic Sleeve.

That's wrong, there were changes. Very minor ones.
I own it and besides the Original VHS's, these were the only other ones I could watch. The '97 Editions weren't tolerable to me because of the Luke/Palpatine Yell.

When you're dealing with a situation where 99% of the people interested in the rips have purchased the films about 6 different times on different formats, and said rips are unavailable commercially... I'd say you're in a much greyer area than simply "illegal".

Not one person creating or downloading those is taking a single dime from the pockets of Lucas or Disney. And most of them are, quite frankly, the foundation on which both of those companies came to such a major billion-dollar agreement on the franchise.

I would personally love to see them attempt to sue. It would air out a whole bunch of stuff that I think they'd rather the general public didn't think about going into Episode VII. They'd rather everyone accept Vader shouting "NOOOOOOO!" at the end of RotJ and turning into Hayden's ghost. And STFU -- it's in 1080p and looks really nice. So STFU.

It's less grey than you might pretend it wish it to be. If you don't own that version, then having a rip off it is illegal (no matter how many times you have added to GL's back account in the past). And it doesn't matter legally if someone profits from the rips or not to be illegal.

I'm not saying it's a good situation, just saying what the law says about it.
