I don't remember where I read this, but I recall the Jabba scene in ANH was originally done as a CGI test in 1995, then left untouched for two years(!) until it was cut into the SE.

It's a nice muppet in Empire, but you just prefer one fake look for another.
Some people might say (and I tend to agree) that we never needed to see Yoda do those things in the first place. And I thought that looked pretty silly and ridiculous anyway.

If that's true, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Yoda should never fight to begin with.

I don't know about you, but as a kid/teenager, I was always under impression, from the films, that Yoda fought by using the Force almost exclusively, and probably didn't even possess a lightsaber.

Yoda jumping around fighting with a lightsaber was the only good thing about AoTC. For a brief moment I forgot that Anakin hated sand because it got everywhere.

Same here, Thomas. I always thought the message was that Jedi on the light side of the Force had a very different relationship with the physical world.

And then we got the PT, and practically the very first scene showed the Jedi as swordsmen. Confusing ...

Well yeah, it always seemed to me from the original trilogy that what made Yoda so special was that he was so wise and powerful to the point where he was above those kinds of things, and seeing him whip out a teeny tiny little lighsaber and engage in the same jumping and flipping around crap as everybody else kind of jeopardizes that concept for me (not to mention the fact that it just looked flat out silly and laughable; even more so when you watch it today).

And honestly, I think that relates directly to one of the many big problems that exists in the prequels: the undermining of the force and the concept of being a jedi. I'm not just talking about the midichlorians (granted that is part of it, but it's a little more complicated than that.)

A reviewer who goes by the name of Confused Matthew explains this in one of his reviews, and you should check them out on blip if you can. He said something along the lines of this: In the original films, the force seemed more like a spiritual guide, and being a great jedi was more about the character of these people, it was about how noble and wise they were, and how strong in spirit they were, and their abilities were really just an extension of that. But in the prequels, the force comes across more like generic superpowers that attach themselves to random people.

But Yoda had to get to that point of being alone on Dagobah. The Jedi were wiped out because of their arrogance. So while Yoda was wise before, he had to learn even more as he went into exile.

Anyone here glad Lucas is FINALLY gone, retired and away from his studio? for the last years since the actual SE hit theaters, he has tortured/butchered/mutilated the original films to no end and refusing to give us the original cuts to the classic movies.

In 2011 i refused to buy the blu-ray because i support film preservation and other hardcore SW fans who care about FP did the same thing to strike against Lucas until the original versions are included too but too bad in the summer of 2012 one of my relatives bought me the BD boxset to SW as i had to see what more changes were done to the OT like the unacceptable "Nooo" climax in Jedi. Then when i heard the news in 2012 of him retiring and sold Lucasfilm to Disney, i was like as he will no longer damage the original films anymore.

That'd be amazing to see if Disney/Fox can collabrate with each other like Starz/Shout/Sony are doing with the new Halloween set to do the original unmolested and unedited versions of the OT out of the Lucasfilm vaults and do some 4k restorations to them to make them look as beautiful as ever for HD and our money can be well spent.

And yet Luke defeats the Emperor when Luke throws away his sword. "You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."

You know, I was watching Jedi with my kids yesterday, and realized that if the Emperor would have just kept his mouth shut, he would have won. He kept piping up with "good, feel the hate flow through you!" and telling him to finish him and take his place, blah blah blah... and every time he interrupted it just made Luke stop. If he hadn't talked, Luke would have continued and gone full-on hatred and turned.

You should hear the Emperor during the NBA finals.

Even if that were the case, Yoda would still be fighting in defense - which would be contrary to the point I replied to.

Well, Anakin actually defeats the Emperor but, in any case, I'm not sure what that has to do with Yoda fighting.

He didn't defeat the Emperor per say.....he grabbed him and threw him over the railing while his attention was on Luke. No force involved with that move. :P

But back to Yoda who can hardly get around with a cane (moaning and grunting) then all of a sudden becomes the best acrobat in the Galaxy.....even better than Maul.

The thing about Yoda is his characterization inconsistency even within the prequel trilogy itself . In TPM he is similar to how he is in the OT in terms of physiological views and wisdom, but that changes in AOTC and ROTS when he becomes a silly jumping bean.
