Same thing with Coke, they tried New Coke, people disliked it so they changed it back.

The sad thing with Star Wars is that no matter what Lucas gave people the majority ate it up. Why should he bother with releasing the UOT when people kept buying the re-releases over and over. Especially the people that don't really like the changes. The "I can't stand the changes made to the films but they are all that is available now so I will deal with it" are the worst offenders.

Hopefully Disney rectifies all of this.
I'm one of the WORST worst offenders. I just don't give a damn about the changes. I buy it because it's Star Wars, end of discussion.

I think a member mentioned an '80s movie which looked sourced from a print and a I saw something the other day I was surprised to see cue marks on but that was a HD stream not a BD or DVD.

Me too, for the most part. Some of the changes are lame IMO, but nothing they've done to the films has ever ruined my enjoyment. I'm always happy to see higher quality versions released, and I have to say I'm always curious what will be different each time. In a way, I might be disappointed if they STOP changing the films. Heh. But on the flip side, I do crave a high-quality viewing of the unaltered versions too, even though I'd probably keep watching the altered versions after that viewing.

Or could just see the link in my sig, which not only has been in this thread many times but I've also specifically pointed folks to it on quite a few occasions (often enough that I have felt the need to specify I had nothing to do with writing it and am not a compensated endorser, LOL) - a good half the posts in this thread would not be the same if folks read and understood what it says.

Some folks just don't want the facts, but that's okay - it quite mirrors the general thought process unfortunately we see too often in the world. "Information = BAD" because it forces people to think and grow their opinions which is undesirable to many.

Oh, quit it with the sermonising. The 'facts' in your second link would be better served if they weren't filtered through Kaminski's depressingly typical 'Lucas is da DEVIL' viewpoint.

You know something, there are MORE than enough horror stories on the net of people who have worked for him who would say he's an ass. I've also heard more than my share from people "in the biz" who have said the exact same. If people choose to disregard that for the good that he did 40 years ago, fine. But let's not pretend that Star Wars has been much more than a toy-making biz it's become over the last 30.
He may not be "the devil" but he's certainly not known for being the nicest, kindest, sanest man in the business.

This seems a little silly. Some of the changes are good, IMO. I like the addition of the Jabba scene in ANH, I like the replacement of the Emperor in TESB, and I like the removal of the black slug on the Emperor in ROTJ. Do I think there are too many changes made? Yes, absolutely, some of which seemed pointless, but in the end, it's not like all the changes are without benefit.

"Biz" people such as Gary Kurtz and John Dykstra?

For video prints are the absolute last resort since they often have contrast enhancement, more grain, etc. We're talking analog and every generation away from the master (negative) degrades the image further.

I can think of a Blu-ray from a print: Damnation Alley. It looks like garbage and it has *censored language* to boot!

Some of the changes being good doesn't make much of a difference, really. People want access to the cuts they grew up with. Any other series would have included both using seamless branching. Lucas refused.

Exactly, and the Jabba in ANH is ridiculous. A five year old with a box of crayons could do better.

No they couldn't. Especially not the 2011 version. If you're expecting a younger version of the ROTJ Jabba, what are you expecting anyway?

No Jabba at all in Star Wars. He couldn't do it in 76 when he was filming so let it lie.

It's both. he's a raging ******* surrounded by "yes men." That's not so hard to understand...nor believe...unless you've never been employed, like, EVER.

I ignore the prequels. They are, in my opinion, the most hideous pile of trash I have ever seen. They took everything good about Star Wars and destroyed it over three increasingly embarrassing movies. Dialogue, wooden acting (partly down to the script, IMO) over the top CGI and miscasting (just my opinion)

Hyperbole much?

I swear, this thread is basically the song that never ends. It just goes on and on my friend! Some people starting singing it not knowing what it was. And they will continue singing it forever just because this is the song that never ends...

I think that's what is so bizarre to me about it's inclusion. I am not completely opposed to it - at least it's a vintage scene, just uncompleted - but it simply doesn't jive with Jabba just a few years later. It's not like there are 20 years between ANH and ROTJ. So while I understand that Lucas never liked the fact that Jabba was relatively stationary in ROTJ - seeing him slither around like he is a completely different character is just strange. It just does not fit.
