I can understand both sides of the story. Your situation is very unfortunate, but at the same time you specifically choose to buy an open box / show-model item which does not qualify it as new. Hence the awesome price you are getting.
I think you have some valid points and are entitled to a working remote (unless the open box item specifically stated the remote is missing/broke), but to try to get hundreds of dollars out of it is very unethical on your part. There are always people that try to get everything they want for as close to "nothing" as possible by being totally unreasonable and/or looking for extra compensation for all kinds of unjustified reasons. I hope you are not one of those consumers! As I said, I understand where you are coming from, but cool down a bit man and be polite, friendly and reasonable. The old saying still goes. You'll catch more fly's with syrup than with vinegar. Have a friendly conversation with a Fry's floor manager, articulate your story and concerns, and see what they can do for you. Don't walk in there all pissed off ... on a war path ... trying to get an unreasonable compensation for your situation. |
So. Many of you know I was really stoked to pick up my KDS-55A3000 from Fry's today for the heavily discounted price of $1259. According to the salesperson, it was just a show model and their last unit. When I bought it, they had to take it right off the showroom floor and wrap it up in bubble wrap. We got home, unwrapped it, turned it on, and immediately popped in a variety of blus to notice the difference over my old set and the quality of the unit. It had definitely exceeded me expectations.
But there was one catch: the remote wasn't working. "Dead batteries" I thought to myself. So I flipped over the remote to swap out the batteries when I see a big "REFURBISHED" sticker on the back of it. I don't know about other states, but it is illegal to sell a refurbished product in the state of California without notifying the consumer. The remote changes the volume, but does performs no other functions. Everything else I need to use to controls built into the side of the TV. I'm going to tear someone a new ass tomorrow after work at Fry's. I'm going to demand AT LEAST a high quality home theater universal remote to make up for the fact that I was just got completely screwed over. Or maybe a couple hundred dollars in gift cards. I wouldn't have even cared so much if they had just TOLD ME.
a couple hundered dollars lol, for a 5 dollar remote, if i was the manager i would laugh at you. and about the illegal part in california i never heard of this when did they start that ??? |

Laugh at me? In all my years I've never ever been laughed at when making a customer service complaint. When did they start that law? A LONG, LONG time ago.

Hey,
I tried to butt out already but,... I would honestly laugh if I was working at Frys and you came in with the illegal/unethical stuff. However,.. What's really going to bake your noodle is when you find out the bulb in this set is supposed to be changed after 6000 Hours and your set has 10,000 hours on the original bulb... But,... you're not there yet. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 04-05-2008 at 05:31 PM. |

I love frys. They had a great deal on a Samsung 120htz LCD TV right after X-mas. I do understand that you are upset but what differnece does it make that it was a refurbished item? It was an open box showroom floor display model. Refurbished does noyt mean that it was broken. I bought from best buy years ago an open item CD recorder and it had a refurbished sticker on it and it was and still is fine. You got a great deal on the TV. The remote not working should not be an issue. If I were you I would have bought a good warranty from them. Thats just what I do when I buy a big ticket item. It sounds like you are trying to find an excuse to get as much as possible. If you are not happy then return the TV and get your money back. Please do not sue them as I am sick and tired of hearing people whine and sue for the most bullshit reasons. It may be illegal but you werent *****en when you got a great deal.

I recently bought a floor model TV, and they had to find a remote that worked with the TV. They found one, I was happy just at the price that I bought the TV for. Floor models come with problems, sales people mostly assume you know this since you are aware you are buying a floor model. Enjoy the price discount, they will give you a remote that works, and all should be well.

Delux,
I'm not trying to be mean. I was trying to help when I posted links with pictures of the OEM remote. I was trying to help when I mentioned the page about resetting the remote. You feel ripped off every since you noticed that sticker. Maybe you should remove the sticker and throw it away and then just start over. Or,.. go tear the fellas at Fry's a new one and let them know how evil and and unethical this whole deal was. Either way is actually fine with me. If they do give you hundreds of dollars I hope you spend it and Blu and let us know what you get. If I were you I would drop everything else and pull up the hour meter on the set... That would honestly be my biggest concern. -Brian |

Quote "well it might be possible the tv was in fact a display unit and the remote by itself was a refurb. product."
Actually the sticker itself was the thing that was refurbished. ![]() I don't have that HDTV but on my Sony Projector to get to the timer I have to get to service mode using the.....remote. ![]() On mine it's up down up down enter or something like that. I'm sure google would be able to shed some light on this. -Brian |

OK, if you are not eligible for a warranty then yes I would be upset too. I get that. I dont care if it was over half price, I would still want a warranty that covered everything. Why did you not get the warranty right there when you bought the TV? Circuit city was 580 for 5 year, best buy was 400 for 4 year and frys was 195 for 5 years. Thats why I shop at frys most of the time. I live in Phoenix if that means anything. The first thing i ask is if a floor model has the same return/exchange /warranty policy as a new in box. Most times it is yes so I buy open box to save money.

Hey,
Since the bulb is about $200.... that warranty sounds a bit off. I don't see how a third party can offer that type of warranty. They have no way to know the condition of the set that you bought. It's weird. Sounds a little too good to be true. Did you get the manual with the set? I found a place to download it free and dl-ed it and will read it over just for kicks. http://www.manualnguide.com/manual-get/4479/ In the "other information" section they tell you how to change the bulb but don't mention the timer. -Brian Last edited by bhampton; 04-05-2008 at 06:19 PM. |
