My top five are, not in order: the exorcist, halloween (original), psycho, alien, and the shining. As of right now, it looks like The Thing could surprise people and come out on top! Nice list, btw, surfdude. Glad to see the excellent The Orphanage in there.

As of right now, I am absolutely shocked that Alien is not ranked higher on some ppl's lists. I think this is attributable to two things: people not thinking it is a true horror film, and people having a preference for slasher movies. There is certainly nothing wrong with this, as it is meant to be ppl's favorites!

I am also shocked to see Psycho excluded. This was, in many ways, the first true horror movie. However, while the quality of the film holds up, I do not think the terror does (which is really only one scene anyways). I think it is pretty rough to not include it in a top 31 though. Interesting lists thus far. Thank you Romulus for once again taking on this task, and I apologize for not participating with a list.

Glad to see the Blair Witch Project getting some recognition in these lists. I understand the backlash against it, due to its promotional scheme (much like the backlash against Dan Brown's "Da Vinci Code" for his assertion of fact). However, I think it is still a scary, intense film with an incredibly original approach and style. The ending scene is still haunting to me, and I think the directors did a great job in taking a cue from the great classic horror films in understanding that it is scarier not seeing the killer/monster/etc. than to actually see him/her/it.

Do you really consider those six terrible, cliche movies to be good movies in general? Or even good horror genre movies? There is not a single redeeming quality about any of those six films.

People on this forum debate back and forth all the time with selections made, and it is interesting to see why a person likes a film, when other people do not. But simply proclaiming that these six terrible movies are superior to all others, and by implication all other selections are irrelevant, is both logically and fundamentally wrong.

I think he is being sarcastic, but if not then thats on him!! Haha!! Got Em!!
