Ideally, regardless of the subwoofer, you'd be able to raise the subwoofer off the ground at least a few inches to improve the performance, especially so with down-firing subwoofers. Fortunately, the A2-300 has a recessed driver design so you'd be fine and would have ample clearance off the ground. Down firing subwoofers have the same sound as a comparable front firing subwoofers. Also, with the A2-300 and its' 4" port, if you were able to hear port chuffing (air through the port), something would definitely be wrong. In all seriousness though, you will not hear any port noise under normal, punishing action scenes and intense music.

well going forward in this same sub talk, what about ( 2 ) subs for a room size of 400sq feet?

what about ( 2 ) Premier Acoustic PA-120's? Would ( 2 ) eD A2-300 be too much for a room size of 400sq feet?

What about ( 2 ) A3S - 250 Subwoofers, how would those sound?

BTW: What Hz will the A2-300 get down too? And on these subs why dose it ask you to buy the eq.2?

I see you have an amp to drive it so my suggestion is A DIY sub . You can get A pre-made cabinet & order A Driver for it & have it Passive so it runs off one of the channels of your Emo . It will sound better & with the right Driver be better than many subs you can get from A manufacturer .

If this interests you I can give you some links .

This is my DIY sub. It has A 15" Dayton Aluminum Driver . It goes down to 18 Hz & I have it running off one channel of my XPA-5 . I also have A 10" DIY with A Dayton Diver that goes down to 22 Hz I run off the same amp .

No, 2 A2-300 subs would not be too much for a room size of 400 sq feet. Even number of subs (2 or 4) would be preferable in almost all situations. And when they are properly calibrated into your system, they should blend right in and would perform extremely well in most medium sized rooms. My living room is about 300 sq feet (and opens into the kitchen), and the dual A2-300 subs rock beyond words. They provide a more even response across the entire listening area, and together add about 7 dbs above what they put out individually. This gives them greater headroom to hit hard without pushing them too hard. I highly recommend you consider a dual A2-300 setup for the room size you're talking about.

Edit: The A2-300 is rated to get down to 18 hz. The A3S-250 are sealed subs, and would fall under the criteria of whether you want sealed or ported subs. IMHO, sealed is better for music and ported is better suited for HT. Also, the A3S-250 has 10" driver while the A2-300 has 12".

Do you have small kids? if so a downfiring sub might be better. I had a friend who had a Velodyne CHT 15 sub quite a few yrs back, needless to say his kids got at it and mutilated the driver.

+1 I will add pets to your comment. If you have small children or pets, buy a down-firing subwoofer.

Two PA's would do the job, but 2 A2-300's would do it even better. Stay away from the sealed subs. You don't want sealed in that sort of room with those size subwoofers. Don't worry about the eQ.2. If you can afford two A2-300's, or can save for them, don't worry about the PA's then. The A2-300's are the way to go.

For the money you can't really beat a nice DIY, lol. A 15" titanic with the 500w Dayton or bash amp, some acoustic foam and a sheet of MDF would be a little over $500. You'd have a 15" driver & 500 watt amp, which blows away anything in the price range and you'd almost come in on budget. If you made a ported version tuned to 18hz with a 10^3ft enclosure you'd easily be hitting below 20hz with the PEQ on the Dayton amp. Compare that to anything else for $530, it's a joke. But he'd have to have a saw, a router and come clamps, or be able to borrow them for a weekend.

No. Two eD A2-300's would not be too much. An eq.2 is not needed or recommended with the A2-300, not sure where you read that? Here is the specs on the A2-300.

They need to be build them first, which takes it though processing and paint, along with assembly before it is sent to you.....

i have an a2-300 and an a3s-250. i personally prefer the sound of my a3s-250, but the sealed sub has less output and won't play as deep as the a2-300. in my opinion, if you're looking for quality, tight bass, i'd go for 2 a3s-250s. if you want the room to shake and are looking for buttloads of output, go for the a2-300s.

on a side note, i've also owned a hsu stf-2, which to my ears had a more refined sound than the a2-300. you could pick up two of these subs now for the same price as the eD sealed or ported subs, and you would not have to wait for them to be built. hsu is having a sale on the stf-2 now, which hardly ever happens. the stf-2 would more than likely be a better choice than the pa-120s...

I would tend to agree that the Hsu would provide a smoother response and better output than the PA-120 (but they aren't really on the same level, so its comparing apples and oranges). With the sale Hsu is having now, I would look further into this sub(s).

So are you saying now, I should look into the Hsu subs? Or stay with the eD A2-300 subs?

Yes, I think you should make as much of an educated decision as you can. Looking into Hsu subs could very well do you a tremendous favor. They are highly regarded and would be worth the time invested to learn about them since they are having that sale and could fall into your budget.

I wouldn't say that but they are a very sound sub manufacture as stated. Between the two there is only a $12 difference. Both the eD and HSU would be a better choice over the PA-120. Either the eD or HSU will be a big step forward from what you have so you won't loose either way. If it were me I would still get the A2-300's. You will get better bass extension From the eD and they are 12" drivers instead of 10" drivers and you will never say what if. It's a decision we can't make for you but only inform you of the differences.
