Default PS3 problem, need help (I know how to fix it, but need help still)

Well,

I have made a stupid mistake.

I got my PS3 hooked on an HD-tv, which supports 720p and 1080i.

I use HDMI and with custom settings (I pick wich resolutions my tv supports). Well, I was messing around with my PS3 settings.
Then I made a mistake. I selected HDMI and deselected 576p, 720p and 1080i, and selected 576p and 1080p. After doing this, my screen went blank.

As you all know, XMB is displayed in the highest resolution possible (in this case 1080p, and my screen doenst support that). So I needed to reset my PS3 (using PS3 to scart). After reset, when I select HDMI again, I get that 30 seconds thing. But when displaying the 30 seconds, it still gives me a blank picture over HDMI because it displays it in 1080p.

I also reset it in XMB, 'restore default settings', still the same problem.

I can solve this problem, but I need to navigate threw XMB blindly. When the 30 seconds thing happens, I must press 'yes' and then custom, and then deselect 1080p, so I will get a picture through HDMI.

After I get a picture, I can select the regular settings on my PS3.

So what I need is a walkthrough.

Example:
Press X in this screen, Press directional button in that screen, etc.

Help me please.

Turn off the PS3. When turning on the PS3 hold the button down until it beeps a second time. It should auto-detect and display in a supported resolution.

There's a trick for this.

From standby (red light) instead of touching the standby button to turn on the console, hold it down so it beeps once (console starting up) then a second time (output resolution reset).

That should set things to 480i/576i over whatever connection you're using.

Edit: too late.

I tried that allready, it doesnt help me with my problem.

After that reset, the PS3 uses the other output instead of HDMI. When in this mode, I go to select HDMI in menu, but after selecting HDMI, I get a black screen, when it does the 30 second test thing. That is because the PS3 outputs in 1080p, and my tv doenst support 1080p.

What I need to do is manually diselect 1080p on HDMI. And that is where I need help. I need to navigate through XMB blindly.

After reset there should be the option to either automatically detect resolutions or to manually select them.

I dont get that option.

The solution is simple. I just need a walkthrough on a few pages on XMB, so I can select and deselect some options on my PS3.

So when you held down the button until it beeped twice the screen didn't show anything or did you get some options and then the screen went blank?

I get a screen, but not via HDMI, it comes from the regular PS3 port, that uses the standard PS3 cable.

After reset (when it beeps multiple times) it asks for the time zone etc, but not for manual or automatic screen output.

Could you read my first post please? I know it is kinda hard to understand, but you should get what I am trying to say.

Turn off the system, remove the standard cables. Plug the HDMI cable into your PS3 and TV. Turn on the system and wait for it to beep twice to reset the video settings. You should get the HDMI configuration options then.

I dont get any options, it just shows me the XMB, then I navigate thru XMB to wherever I wanna go.

But the problem is, I have my PS3 connected to tv via HDMI also. So when I select HDMI, it shows blank on the 30 seconds screen.

Go get the composite cable that came with your PS3. This will alow you to veiw the XMB dashboard. From there, you should be able to reset you PS3's SCart settings back to HDMI. SCart is to change component out from YPbPr to RGB. This is why your screen is blank. Your PS3 is set to component out. HDMI should be smart enough to detect that you TV does not support 1080p, thus will display 1080i.

The composite cable is the most basic connector, i think it should work.

Then after your done changing back your PS3 to HDMi, you can reconnect your HDMI, and disconect composite. Problem solved.

I used the standard PS3 composite cable, to enable HMDMI.
PS3 is smart enough to detect my screen doenst support 1080p.

But, what I did was, manually select 1080p and disable 1080i and 720p. So whenever I select HDMI, via XMB, the PS3 outputs via HDMI, but in 1080p, so I get a blank screen (reset doenst help, restore default settings doenst help either).

The solution is, for me to temporarely blindly navigate (need help on that part from you guys) thru XMB, so I can disable 1080p manually. And then my problem should be solved.

So you basically need someone to count for you step by step? Correct? Meaning like scroll all the way left until the XMB stops clicking, then move right once, then down x times and then press x, move down x times, then move right, etc.

If this is the case we would need to know which firmware you are using.

I would imagine you use a non-us PS3, hence the 576p, so unfortunately I wouldn't be able to help you (unless the options in the XMB are the exact same for an NTSC vs PAL PS3) but if this is what you are looking for then maybe this would point the forum members in the right direction.

Ye, that is what I need. The NTSC and PAL should be the same, and I am using firmware 1.70.

Based on my NTSC PS3 here it goes:

-Press left until the XMB stops clicking, press right once (Settings).
-Press down 6 times, then press x (Display settings)
-Press X (Adjust current settings)
-Now if your PS3 is defaulting to HDMI then press x (since it highlights your current choice (HDMI). If not then press up until it stops clicking and press the x (this would be the selection for HDMI).
-Now assuming your current resolution is 1080p it should be highlighted and thus press x to deselect. If 1080i was not selected press up once and press x to select 1080i.
-Press right once.
-Press x to confirm selections.
-Press O to skip the audio set-up.

Hopefully that works since this is on an NTSC PS3. GOOD LUCK!

You almost had it correct.

But, right now, the PS3 is outputting via the standard PS3 cable.
So, XMB is visible for me.
I can select HDMI, then the PS3 will show me a screen via HDMI for 30 seconds. This is the part where it goes blank, and need your help.

In this screen it says, do you see picture, yes or no. I know, I need to pres left once and then X.
But after this screen, I need your guidence.

Once you select HDMI, the options on mine are as follows:
Standard NTSC (which is 480i)
480p
720p
1080i
1080p
Assuming the first selection is selected for only Standard PAL (which this is where I am unsure of the choices for PAL), you would press down 3 times and press x for 1080i and then press right once and then press x to confirm the selection and then O to skip the audio set-up.

Hmmm, are you sure this is correct, because I remember XMB asking for Custom or Manuel.

I think, what you have done is: go to display menu, select HDMI, and here is when it gets tricky, you probably allready have HDMI selected.

I dont have HDMI selected yet, so I get different set of screens, like the test screen, and probably also custom or manuel screen.
