Blu-Ray Remote Problem

Hi All

Was gonna search this but all i was getting was a blank page.

I have a problem with my ps3 blu-ray remote. Not a big problem, but recently the up button has stopped worked. I am able to go left, right or down on a menu but never up anymore. The only way around it is to go back to the ps3 controller to move.

Anyone know of this problem?

Try removing it from the PS3 registered devices and setting it up again.

I for one love the fact that for movies (BD\DVD\Streaming DivX etc...) its just better to use then a PS3 controller (My opinion)

I have my PS3 controllers set to turn off automatically and the remote doesn't.

For me the remote is a must have for movies etc...

Exactly. You can use the controller if you want, but I'm happy I bought the remote after using the controller for a couple of months. No more pulling up the menu to do simple things anymore. Plus it's easier to get the easter eggs in the movies.

I had read some where one time you needed the remote to do blu ray live

well Ive ben able to do that fine with my ps3 controller

if i was better informed I probablly would of not boughten it, I dont mind pressing an extra button

I got it in that Hancock/PS3 remote combo at Wal-Mart, so the total cost wasn't that bad. There's nothing wrong with using the controller. I just find the remote just a little easier. Call me lazy, because I kind of am.

How do i do this?

I attempted to add another which would have removed the old one, but it wasn't doing anything when i was pressing the two buttons. I thought it might be because i'm trying to register something that is already registered on this machine.

Thats how you need to. Make sure you unregister the remote first before trying to re-register it.

If that doesn't work than your remote may need replacing. Perhaps it got sat on too many times?

Blu-ray remote doesn't appear in the registered devices list, all you can do is reregister using the original method.

If just your up button has stopped working, this is a physical problem in the remote. Most likely causes are foreign debris trapped inside or something spilled on the remote. Your only real option here is to open the remote up and clean it out.


As for whether the Blu-ray remote is useful... it is. It's not a requirement to watch video, but it is nicer than using the PS3 controller.

The arrangement of the remote is optimized for viewing rather than gaming. It just plain works a little better for its intended purpose.

The most valuable aspect to me, however, has been being able to put the PS3 controllers away while we watch a Blu-ray movie. You see... an unexpected drawback is that the PS3 controller has very sensitive buttons facing in every direction.... great for gaming but bad for movie watching. If anyone accidentally touches the controller, puts something on top of it, or pretty much even looks at it funny, they're going to push a button on it by accident and wreak havoc which interrupts the movie.

The most common problem comes from the L2 and R2 triggers since the controller actually sits on them at rest. Anything that bumps the controller at all will start fastforwarding or reversing. And you're really in trouble if a pillow falls on the top of the controller.

All of this means that you pretty much can't set the controller on the couch with you while you watch a movie. The controller is almost invariably going to get accidentally touched over the course of two hours if it's on the couch. Instead, you have to start the movie playing and then place the controller somewhere out of reach where no errant limbs or pillows can touch it.
