Default Firefly question

Okay, I have the regular DVDs to the show, but I have watched them so much, that Disc 1 skipps. I wanted to know, is the blu-ray worth the upgrade, because I have heard some people here say the PQ is bad while the AQ is great. I am a big fan of the show, and just need a few more nudges before I spend the $ to upgrade.

I have only seen a couple episodes on blu ray. I have the DVD though, personally I would buy it on blu ray when it drops closer to $20. Their is a difference in quality but not at the current price it's at. I feel horrible saying that since I'm usually the first person to say get the blu ray. But I feel that the jump is not big enough for me to justify the price difference.

I think the PQ is quite an improvement over the DVD version, I was quite lucky to get my BD copy for $29.

Well worth it, especially if you watch it a lot.

Coincidentally, I finally got through watching Firefly on BD this week and Serenity the other night. On Firefly, there is some grain from time to time throughout the BD episodes that I never really took notice of when I watched my DVD set. And that might bum you out if you think a BD's PQ should be flawless. But for what it's worth, the overall PQ is noticeably better than the DVD. The occasional grain did bum me out or distract me at the start, but I got over it. The show's so damn good, and I enjoyed watching them all again, especially the later episodes which I forgot were amazing and among the best of the series.

I know you didn't asked about it, but obviously, being a film with a greater budget, Serenity look sterling.

While I haven't actually watched it on BD yet, just judging from reviews, I don't think the people saying it has bad PQ are right. I ended up just getting the DVD, but I think the BD would be worth it at the right price. The round-table on the BD is a nice extra special feature for diehard fans. I may still get the BD sometime down the road. I only got the DVD version because it was way cheaper than the BD version at the time. In the end, since this would be a replacement for you, I would say get the BD version. You'd find it cheaper online rather than in a store though.

I am a browncoat from way back and bought the set when it came out. The only problem with the PQ on the BD is the fact that all of the effects were rendered at standard resolution so all of the effects are simply upconverts but the actual PQ on the episodes excluding effects shots is great. AQ goes without saying. Highly recommended especially if you love Firefly.

Yep, I think its worth the upgrade. I personally think the sharpness isn't the big imporovement, it get read of a lot of noise (when comparing to my dvd) that is not present when it airs on HD on tv. Looks much better, and sound is more or less the same from my experience. No rush to upgrade, but it is worthwhile.

Plus, is there a better show then Firefly (if your answrer is yes, ask, is there a better show that was cancelled half way through the first season).

The Blu-ray looks solid. While I would not call it something to demo your home theater with, the picture quality is average for Blu-ray at worst.

Well, after reading some opinions, and taking into consideration I am a HUGE fan of the show, I folded, and payed the $75 dollars. Was it worth it? Yes, but I can see how the PQ would be offputting for some. It is very grainy and some of the sharpness and clearity is not up to par with some of the best blu-has to offer. Still, this is the best it will look and I look forward to watching this show many times, even more than I did on the standard box set I own. Browncoats unite!
