![]() ![]() Chances are good I'll catch It Chapter 2 on the big screen soon, if for no other reason than I have the Vudu coupon for it. Every year I have some kind of backlog to chug through in my collection. As time permits, I'd love to finally get through all the Universal monster movies I haven't seen yet (mostly the Dracula and Wolfman sequels). Still need to see the Scream and Hellraiser sequels. I also have a few random blind buys I'd love to tackle--Cube, Incident in a Ghostland, The Skin I Live In, and The Horrors of Malformed Men to name a few. Other than that, I'm seriously thinking about another Final Destination marathon, and I'd love to revisit A Cure for Wellness. Regarding the OP's poll, I just had to vote on sci-fi horror as my favorite subgenre. Sci-fi is my first love after all, so movies like Alien definitely appeal to me the most. However, over the past few years I became much more enlightened on the tropes, definition, and elements of cosmic horror specifically, which is something that genuinely makes my skin crawl more than every other genre or concept. I actually find it exciting that so much cosmic horror has been the focus of much recent media--yesteryear's Annihilation really nailed it, while other movies like Mandy, The Endless, Under the Skin, The Void, and shows like True Detective (first season). Plus, I've been playing the PS4 game Control like a fiend lately, and it marries the cosmic with the supernatural very sublimely. Something about the fear of things bigger than mankind has a way of keeping me up at night with my heart racing, wondering if some entity from a higher dimension will seep its way into my room, or even my mind. But the fact that it does scare me keeps me intrigued for more, and chances are good I'll see some more this cycle (including the upcoming adaptation of The Color Out of Space). Skulls to copy and paste: ![]() ![]() -----------------------------------------------------------------

Sir John Talbot watches in horror as the werewolf transforms into his son's human form as the local police arrive on the scene. Last edited by hagios; 11-01-2019 at 02:43 AM. |

Typically, yes, but in the last couple of years, the demand has increasingly grown for this thread to start just after the unofficial mark of summer ending aka Labor Day. So the thread title is just the original thread title that it has always been for the last 11 (and now 12) years, but the contents have evolved a bit with people starting at all different times.

Woo hoo!!!
Sorta started yesterday. Did a "Black Hole Sun-day" theme, finished with 1. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Saw this one when it was in theaters, hated it. Rented it years later, kinda liked it. Own the Blu, and it's become one of those yearly watches that I like more every time I see it. Just the right mix of completely gruesome & totally over the top. Would be awesome if they could find those missing archive elements for a director's cut. |

Thanks for putting it up and great to see everyone from past years back again. I always look forward to this thread. It was one of the first threads I noticed that got me participating in these forums and this will be my fifth year. I've been holding back horror for several weeks so I'm going to get started tonight.

Alrighty, it's that time of year once again. Football season's in full gear, Halloween candy's in full stock in stores and the cold fall air's is making its way through making it a good lead in to the Halloween movie marathon.
Here are my previous years: 2017: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...2&postcount=16 2018: https://https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=15486206&postcount=5 So, let's get this year's marathon under way. ![]() 9/13 Friday the 13th (1980) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) ![]() ![]() 9/21 The Fury (1978) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Brian DePalma takes horror, conspiracy thriller and Sci-fi and mix it into an intense, intriging and entertaining flick with an awesome cast. 9/24: The Guest (2014) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() ![]() Despite an MVP performance by Dan Stevens, a cool 80s movie vibe and awesome soundtrack, this was too all over the place bordering on a mess as if different tones were fighting for attention. Still manages to be a weird and enjoyable flick and a improvement over Adam Wingard's You're Next. 9/27: The Guardian (1990) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() William Friedkin's criminally underrated return to horror since The Exorcist. A nightmarish, creepy as hell and quite unique modern day Grimm brothers' fairy tale. 9/28: Eyes of the Stranger (1981) *First time viewing* ![]() A bland early 80s slasher flick with zero imagination, cheaper looking than the standard Blumhouse production and dull as hell. And this came from the same person who directed the vastly superior Shock Waves? 9/30: Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? (1971) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() Lame Hansel & Gretel retelling with a few creepy moments but lacks suspense and tension but watching Shelley Winters chew up the scenery makes it kind of worth while. 10/1: The Shining (1980) *Watched in theaters* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Stanley Kubrick's absolute masterclass of horror. A hell of a lot of suspense and tension that gets under your skin and freak you out. Then you add the magnificent cinematography (the 4K remaster looked great on the big screen) and the performances that sell it all among other elements that just makes this one of the greats in cinema, horror or otherwise. 10/2: Superstition (1985) *New to Blu-Ray* ![]() The gore effects, solid score and nutso third half are the only highlights in this dumb and incoherent supernatural slasher flick. 10/3: Regular Show (Season 3, Episode 4: Terror Tales of the Park) (2011) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Downright funny Halloween themed episode filled with creepy dolls, ghost 80s metal bands and weird curses. 10/4: Jigsaw (2017) (New to UltraHD 4K) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() *My annual go-to* Don't Go in the Woods (1981) ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/5: Sometimes Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things (1971) *First time viewing* ![]() A bats*#& nutso next to no budget exploitation flick that mixes Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker with HG Lewis and John Waters but too dull and not nutso enough to be fun. Beware The Blob (1972) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() It's hard to believe that this was directed by J.R. Ewing himself, Larry Hagman. This is clearly not on the same level of the original 1958 or even the 1988 remake but it's a laugh riot from start to finish thanks, in part to the many random oddball side characters. 10/6: Nightmare City (aka City of the Walking Dead) (1980) ![]() ![]() Umberto Lenzi's awesomely bad "zombie" flick. Nonsensical plot, bad dubbing and worse dialogue and laughable make-up effects but an awesomely fun, bad "zombie" flick. *My annual go-to* My Bloody Valentine (1981) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/7: The Final Terror (1983) ![]() ![]() ![]() A surprisingly well done mix of wilderness survival/slasher flick with a solid cast and direction from Andrew Davis, who would later direct Above The Law and The Fugitive. Slower paced than most slashers of the era but it's still a tense and entertaining flick. 10/8: The Fanatic (2019) *First time viewing* ![]() Everything you've might've heard about this movie is true. Awful, awful movie that lands into pure comedy territory. The Possession of Hannah Grace (2018) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() Some creepy and unsettling moments with some solid tension and atmosphere but never rises above the contrivances and cliches and settles down to just being the same old dull, sub standard horror flick we've all see before. 10/9: Killer Fish (1979) ![]() ![]() ![]() Sluggish in places but still an enjoyable flick with an awesome disco track sung by Amii Stewart. 10/10: The Addams Family (2019) *Saw in theaters* ![]() ![]() ![]() Though not as great as the 1991 film and despite a standard feeling storyline, it's still an entertaining animated movie with a good voice cast. 10/11: John Carpenter's The Fog (1981) *New to UltraHD 4K* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() An old school, highly effective ghost story told with simplicity, strong atmosphere, on point cinematography and a moody score to boot. 10/12: Nightmares (1983) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() 10/13: *Annual go-to* StageFright (1987) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Evil Laugh (1986) ![]() ![]() ![]() A cheesy as hell low budget slasher flick that's a total fun watch. Load up on the beer for this one. 10/14: *Annual go-to* Madman (1982) ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/15: 40th Anniversary Alien (1979) *Saw in theaters* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() TCM/Fathom Events delivered an awesome looking and sounding DCP of Ridley Scott's sci-fi/horror masterpiece with an excellent mix of character, suspense, tension and atmosphere along with a stellar cast. 10/16: The Wolfman (2010) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() ![]() Some entertaining action scenes, awesome make-up effects from Rick Baker, solid atmosphere and a great score from Danny Elfman isn't quite enough to mask a lame script with characters that fall flat despite the cast giving their best efforts along with some weak-ish CG. 10/17: *Annual go-to* The Funhouse (1981) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/18: The Beast Within (1982) ![]() ![]() A confusing mess that tries for a unique take on the werewolf lore but still a watchable one with some good make-up effects. An American Werewolf in London (1981) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Though feeling a bit incomplete, it's still an highly entertaining horror/comedy hybrid that's more horror than comedy with strong atmosphere, solid tension and suspense plus Rick Baker's awesome make-up effects. 10/19: Nail Gun Massacre (1985) ![]() An absolutely horrible low (and I mean, loooooow) rent slasher on all levels but if you love bad movies that'll have you rolling on the floor laughing, give this one a go. Mausoleum (1983) *New to Blu-Ray* ![]() ![]() ![]() Despite a disjointed and incoherent plot, it's a surprisingly decent little supernatural horror flick with many solid moments that keep you engaged. 10/20: Dr. Giggles (1992) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() ![]() An underrated and extremely funny horror comedy with an great mix of silly dark humor and over the top gore plus lots and lots of one liner doctor puns delivered by Larry Drake, who gives an awesome performance as the deranged title character. The lame teen characters were the only thing that brought things down and kept it from greatness. The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() Hammer film with the usual strong atmosphere and lavish look but lacks spark. 10/21: Horror of Dracula (1958) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() ![]() Despite the lavish costumes and sets, the strong gothic atmosphere and Christopher Lee's seductive yet animalistic portrayal of the character, the movie felt a bit dull and wasn't quite as engaging or thrilling as I thought it would be. Still a solid film. 10/22: Countess Dracula (1970) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() ![]() This is basically Hammer Films' version of the Elizabeth Bathory legend. The atmosphere and lavish design that Hammer's known for are largely absent here, the writing was weak and the pacing is slow at times but a good cast and an edgier tone makes up for it making it still a worthwhile watch. 10/23: *My annual go-to* Curtains (1983) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/24: *My annual go-tos* Phantom of the Opera (1989) ![]() ![]() ![]() The Boogens (1981) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Night of the Living Dead (1968) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/25 *Annual Friday the 13th double feature* (Official) Friday the 13th (1980) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) ![]() ![]() 10/26: *My annual go-to* Dawn of the Dead (1978) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fright Night (1985) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Howling II (1985) ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/27: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Changeling (1980) *First time viewing* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Highly effective ghost story/murder mystery hybrid that's high on suspense and tension with moments that produce real chills that'll creep you out. A truly underrated supernatural horror flick. 10/28: Nazi Zombie Double Feature Overlord (2018) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() *My annual go-to* Shock Waves (1977) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/29: *My annual go-tos* A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/30: Terror Train (1980) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 10/31: Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D (1993) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A wildly imaginative and downright brilliant film with glorious stop motion animation, awesome songs from Danny Elfman and a sweet mix of Christmas cheer and the macabre. Halloween (1978) *New to 4K UltraHD* ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One of the all time greats with a beautiful 4K presentation. This is the best I've seen this look.
