Me too, but the change of Vader's " bring my shuttle " and the change of the sinister music on Yoda really bug the hell out of me.

They do not look stunning, good maybe but could be much better without DNR, EE, fake grain, frozen grain, wrong colors etc., a 4k scan would be awesome.

Also surrounding Mos Eisley in the unaltered version the place looks like a small village that clearly would not work either.
Why wouldn't it work? It clearly worked in 1977.

Jabba (human) wasn't in the theatrical cut.

I know you love the special editions, Peter, but do you really think Star Wars is improved with the addition of a repetitive dialogue scene and some rather shaky CGI? Do you not think there's a case to be made that it grinds the film to a halt?

For me, it's one of the biggest, "Look, ma!" moments in the entire special edition project, right down to Boba Fett glowering at the camera.

For that matter, getting back to your reply, do you not think the reveal of Jabba in ROTJ is far more powerful if he's been talked about as some big gangster in the first film, mentioned obliquely in the second film (Han's allusion to "the bounty hunter" he ran into, and the reason he has to leave his friends), and only then, when Han is an icicle and a powerless captive, revealing that he's a giant ugly slug?

It's the Paulie principle, no? As in "Paulie might've moved slow, but that was because Paulie didn't have to move for anybody"? Sticking him in the Mos Eisley hanger fundamentally undercuts his menace -- and that level of menace is important for the first act of ROTJ.

Whether Georgie boy intended to wait that long or not -- like Spielberg with the shark -- that's the way it happened and it worked in his favour.

only because it's repetitive, just Han telling Jabba exactly what we just heard him tell Greedo before having to Matrix-dodge Greedo's blaster shot and shoot him back.

Yes I am aware. I was referring to "mos Eisley would not work without the special edition changes".

That "joke" was created out of sheer shortsightedness and necessity. The original scene was just a normal sized "human" so Han walks around him. Jabba wouldn't actually be a slug like creature until ROTJ. Unfortunately, when adding the scene back to ANH, the team responsible for replacing the original Jabba with the proper Jabba had to find a way to "explain" Han walking through his tail.

Thus the gag that Han steps on his tail but doesn't react was created.

He reacts kinda goofily in the '97 version but when they did him again for the '04 edition they added Jabba cocking his fist ready to smack Han in the face, but when Han starts sweet-talking him he glances back at his fist and smiles before asking for 20 percent.

Yeah, I know it undermines how much of an SOB Jabba is in Jedi but it's not just the tail step that does it, look at how Han talks to him in the underlying scene anyway, it's clear that he's not quaking in his boots in Jabba's presence ("don't push it" "you're a wonderful human being") so the tail thing isn't totally beyond the pale for me.

I could do without the Fett looking to camera, that was super lame, but I like the scene if only for how it breaks up one of the weirder edits in the original film when Luke and Obi-Wan are walking through Mos Eisley, it just kinda dissolves from one shot to another in the middle of a music cue and is a very hurried edit. Breaking it up with the docking bay scene makes it flow so much better.

If Lucas had to change the OT only four things should have been done.

1 remove the matte lines.
2 fix the lightsaber errors.
3 fix the Wampa arm.
4 when Obi Wan cut the arm off in the cantina they should have digitally remove the blood and had the wound cauterized to match with the other films.

Lucas did fix the wampa arm, most of the matte lines remain and the lightsabers change from scene to scene. But the Ewok now blinks and we have magically appearing and disappearing rocks and windows so all is forgiven.

I can (mostly) overlook A New Hope's and Empire Strikes Back's changes but Jedi's changes...that's something else.

Jabba's musical number
Vader's "Noooo"
Hayden Ghost

These things more than anything take me out of the movie.
