Is it the pun? Why don't people like it? I think Vader toying with Krennic makes perfect sense; he obviously doesn't think too highly of the "technological terror" Krennic is whining about getting command of, and him making light of the situation with the choke gag shows Vader knows how to play his position.

The only thing I really dislike about Vader in R1 is how they pitched his voice. They could have done a little better.

Yeah I don’t get it. It’s succhhhh an overrated movie. Yeah, I get it, it has cool action and stuff. But the characters (except for K-2SO) are sooo boring and bland I just couldn’t get into it the way I could with the other Star Wars movies.

For me, that first Vader scene on Mustafar grounds the plot to a halt and is completely unnecessary in a universe where people can communicate via holograms, and Vader can even Force-choke via hologram -- or vid-screen, as seen in EMPIRE. There's NO reason (other than marketing suits saying "there needs to be more Vader") for Krennic to travel alllll the way to Mustafar for an in-person conversation that doesn't contain a single nugget to advance the plot. And this is the same Krennic who's already increasing his frequent flyer miles every fifteen minutes by flying from Jedha to Eadu to Scarif... too many stops. Plus, Vader's voice and dialogue is terrible, IMHO. The whole movie becomes "cleaner" to me whenever I simply skip it. And the bonus is: Vader's appearance at the end becomes even more epic in the absence of that earlier scene... truly, it does. But that's just my two space-cents.

EDIT: Plus, as an old fan who was around in 1977, I like the idea that Vader only comes in at the end of ROGUE ONE, when things really get out of hand. I like holding him in reserve only for the important things; he's a Sith Lord, not a high-level bureaucrat who stoops to keeping officers in line.

Yeah, I agree. Extremely boring and unlikable characters. I also felt the story was uninteresting and the Vader scene was awkward. I need more than special effects to keep my interest. I put it at the bottom of my list (haven’t seen Solo yet, though.)

I don’t like Rogue One at all, but I agree 100% with your opinion about that weird Vader scene and that it would’ve been much more effective to only show him at the end. If that scene were deleted and the main characters were better developed and likable, my opinion of the film would be much higher.

I do like Rouge One but the final Vader scene is so overrated by people. I kept hearing how brutal and dark it was but it's nothing special. In fact it just feels like cheap fan service that was tacked on in re-shoots.

Yeah, TFA was just a boring retread of ANH with elements of the OT/PT in it, R1 was alright but ultimately forgettable, I abhorred TLJ, and don't care to watch Solo.

It’s at the bottom of my list too lol. I think I was just disappointed because I loved The Force Awakens (**** the “it’s a remake of the original” crowd, there’s plenty that differentiates it, but if all you want to see is how it’s similar, that’s all you’ll see) and Rogue One just paled in comparison.

Solo was actually a lot of fun though (and believe me, I was verrrryyyy skeptical about that one) so definitely check it out. My second favorite of the Disney era.

Yep me too, it's the best Disney SW movie by a country mile.

One of the things that I love about Rogue One is that no one is related to anyone!
Empire, for as good as it is, shrunk the universe by making Vader Anakin. Doing that shrunk the timeline and the randomness of everything.

Rogue One is interesting because it starts...not very well at all. Even the Rogue One title credit looks poor and unfinished. It starts off a bit like a tv movie in a way but...

it builds. And builds. Until it becomes easily my favourite recent Star Wars film and the next best after the original trilogy.

Have you ever took a good look at the alien that buys Luke’s speeder in A New Hope?

It’s so damn grotesque.

Yeah, I'm in agreement about Rogue One too. The only Disney flick worth a watch.

It looks more like one of the original Outer Limits ‘bears’.

There’s another weirdo in the cantina - a giant mantis/grasshopper. Not sure if he/it has been immortalised in plastic? Make an interesting action figure.

Did someone watch documentaries about The Elephant Man before making that?
